Do ever use Spokeo. Reviews are horrible

I used Spokeo once and immediately cancelled my subscription. Since then, they have continued to bill me for almost 2 years. Unfortunately, I have been very sick and my daughter has been paying my bills. She continued to pay the bill because she assumed I was using Spokeo. I would never recommend Spokeo to anyone. As I said, I cancelled my subscription almost 2 years ago. Spokeo has horrible reviews. They owe me $718.80. They offered to pay me $47. That’s very unfair.

Spokeo is and absolute scam, do not use it

I should have read reviews here before using Spokeo. Like others, I paid what I thought was a one-time fee of 98 cents for some basic info like addresses on one person, saw that I would have to pay more if I wanted more than that and opted out. Today I was billed just under $30 through my PayPal account by Spokeo and would not have known that if PayPal had not notified me via email. I immediately called Spokeo customer billing and told them I had not signed up for monthly service and they said no problem, and that they would cancel my account and refund me $11.95. I said They had charged $29.95 and they said they can only refund the smaller amount. Have a nice day. This is an absolute scam. I've read many other reviews from those who had the same experience. They respond to these bad reviews as though they were actually concerned that this deception would occur, but it is absolutely intentional. I am now going to post my reviews of their service in as many places as I can find to do so until I'm sure that I have cost them many times what they stole from me. I hope anyone reading this will do the same.

01/20/2026 Update:
Just read Spokeo's reply to my complaint. They used the reply to try to explain how it's okay to charge people 98 cents for a glance at some basic information without telling them that, by doing so, they are actually signing up for a monthly service. And of course they use the opportunity to tout their services. It's all BS. What they do is intentionally deceptive. The reason they gave for not refunding if full for a service I never actually used, is worthless. Why in the world would I return again to use a service that has ripped me off, just because they didn't rip off all of the payment they stole? Do NOT give them payment info!

Update... Within an hour of contacting Spojeo customer care, my email was hacked to set up a fake account on Ebay and sell fraudulent items. I've been using the internet since it was created. It was definitely them. Just stay away from the site. Whatever you do do not give them your information. They keep it permanently and even admit they will never delete it. Hackers...

You think you're just buying something. They don't tell you they're going to charge your card again then try to not give you a refund when they do. Call your bank and either report it as fraud to get it blocked and a new cc sent, which it is fraud. Or tell your bank you need to dispute the charge. They're doing this to many many people. Eventually they'll be shut down.

Also there is literally NO CANCELATION BUTTON. You have to contact customer service who are incredibly rude.

Our name, phone number, and address search will only yield results for individuals in the United States. However, our email and username searches are universal and may display social media profiles associated with those. While our subscription services do include, name, email, phone number, and address searches; any additional services such as historical records, court records, PDF downloads, Investigator reports, enhanced background reports, higher search quotas, and any additional feature or service are offered for an additional price. Spokeo does not originate or create data, so our data reflects that of the original sources. Spokeo does not guarantee data accuracy, and the data should only be used as a reference. We are, however, constantly working to expand and improve the data available on our site. New information is added to our system every day and I suggest you check back for new updates.
