Show me where the cancellation for subscription button is. Stop hiding it.
Let me cancel. I had purchased what you guys titled as "$0.99". I checked my PayPal and you guys charged me $5

Like many others, I purchased one report and was auto-enrolled into a monthly subscription service without my knowledge or consent. I am disputing these transactions with my bank and have reached out to Spokeo to cancel my account. Very deceptive practice. This is well documented, now that I look into it. Do NOT do business with them.

ordered and paid for report, then they wanted a $19.95 upcharge for the information I was looking for. Misleading advertising since they charge extra for what they say report will contain, plus cancellation is deliberately difficult. They do not respond to their chat feature.

I recently used Spokeo to run a single report on someone, but it turned out to be the wrong person. I attempted another report, unaware that Spokeo had quietly signed me up for a subscription. If I had actually purchased a subscription, why would I be paying for individual reports in the first place?
Unfortunately, I didn’t notice the charges until a full year later—$29.95 deducted from my account every month, totaling $359. When I contacted customer service, the initial “solution” offered was a single month’s refund. After pushing back, they increased it to $89.95. When I requested the full refund and asked to speak to a manager, I was told I would receive a call within 24–48 hours. The manager eventually called, only to offer an additional $29.95. In the end, I recovered $119.90—still leaving me out $240 for a service I never used.
I never logged in, never ran a search, and never benefited from this subscription in any way. That alone should clearly demonstrate it was an accidental enrollment. Yet Spokeo chose not to make it right.
To make matters worse, during my final call, the agent I spoke with—Nicholas, reference ID 1619—abruptly ended the conversation by saying, “Since I cannot do anything else for you, I am going to end this call,” and then immediately hung up. This was not only unprofessional but also reflective of how little regard they have for customer concerns.
Their business model relies heavily on misleading sign-ups and hoping customers won’t notice recurring charges. I’m usually very cautious about subscriptions, but their tactics are deceptive enough to slip by even someone like me.
Stay far away from this company. Spokeo is not interested in serving people—they are focused solely on their bottom line, even if it means tricking consumers into subscriptions they never intended to purchase.

HORRIBLE! I pay a monthly fee for this service because I need it for my business. Spokeo requires me to input the information, and when I hit search it kicks me back out, asking me to log back in. I then have to re login, re-enter the information I'm searching for, and then it sends me to an entirely different page asking me to enter the information again! Half the time I get an "Oops sorry!" message that won't allow the search to go through for whatever reason. I log out and log back in just to get the same error message. Worthless! I've messaged them about this and have gotten absolutely no response from them.

Cannot cancel. its a complete scam. stay away from them

I only paid 95 cents for a single search result, and somehow Spokeo slipped in a $29.95 recurring subscription that I NEVER agreed to. No pop-up, no clear warning, nothing. Just straight-up shady billing tactics.
As soon as I checked my PayPal, I saw the $29.95 charge — completely unauthorized. The only way to cancel was through a hidden subscription page that wasn’t even obvious during checkout. If you’re wondering why people call Spokeo a scam, THIS is why.
I never used their service beyond that one report, and they still hit me with a full subscription fee. Absolutely unacceptable. Companies shouldn’t be tricking people into signing up for monthly charges, especially when money is tight and the “trial” is buried in fine print.
Spokeo needs to stop with these sneaky auto-renew traps. I want my full refund of $29.95, plus the overdraft fees their unauthorized charge caused.
Avoid this company unless you like surprise charges and shady business practices.

I paid to look up one number- $0’95, now 3 months on the trot they have debited my account by $29.95… I’m in dispute with both SPOKEO & PAYPAL over this. Absolute Scammers - do not use this site whatsoever.

I only signed up for one address at $.95, and somehow they charged me the full amount of $29.95. I called and asked for a refund and was told by Jordan that they only refund HALF at $11.98! WHAT A RACKET!! I got my $11.98 refund, but I don't know how they stay in business if this is their practice. I may report them to the Better Businss Bureau! SCAM SCAM SCAM!

Paid 97 cents to look up a Address. Found out I’ve been billed 28 dollars for three months in a row. Spokeo are scammers. Big scammers.

This scam company should be prosecuted. They tell you pay 99 cents to get information on a phone number then few days later they charge you $35 for a subscription you never agreed on. When I submitted a claim on PayPal they initially refunded me then reversed the refund. They lied on PayPal saying that I approved the subscription. Avoid this scam company

Deceptive billing practices. I agreed to a $1 charge and that started a monthly subscription on $29.95. This was not clearly represented when I paid. PayPal will not refund me.

I was able to obtain the information I was in search of. The company's customer care agent I corresponded with was prompt with response and understanding of my situation and has the matter resolved right away. Thank you again Stephanie!

I'm a senior (89 yo) and had what I considered an emergency need for contact info on the neighbor a close friend in need of help who lives 500+ miles away. Spokeo found the neighbor's info and offered to provide it for $0.95 and give me a week more of service...but would subscribe me to the service on a monthly basis following that payment. I was highly stressed at the time and did not see or even if I did see, I didn't understand what I'd be getting into by submitting my order. I thought we were done at $0.95 and I had the info I needed to get help for my friend (and did so).
Well, the invoice for $0.95 showed up on my PayPal account a day later and I noted it but did not read through to the last (#3) page (on my screen) where the terms of the subscription were clearly laid out -- including directions for ending the subscription before it was billed.
Then came the $29.95 charge for the subscription on my PayPal account and I came totally unglued, believing I had been scammed. I contacted Spokeo Customer Care and unloaded on them. I feel bad about that because their response was kind and supportive, and they offered to fix the problem if I could give them a few more details - date of the transaction and an email address. While they were processing that, I went back to the first invoice and read the third page and realized I'd had an opportunity to end the problem early and missed it.
Once Customer Care had what they needed, they cancelled the subscription within 12 hours and refunded the $29.95 charge.
While I believe Spokeo purposely makes the terms of the agreement difficult to understand at first, I concede that they did make the terms clear in the invoice and did provide a simple method to stop the subscription if the customer wants that. And, I was VERY impressed with the Spokeo Customer Care folks who acted quickly to take care of my problem.
