The service is fine until you need help with something.
I was charged £177 for what I thought was a free trial by Semrush, a software company.
I raised a dispute in the app while the transaction was still pending.
The message in the app says it will take 5 working days to look into it.
By which time the funds had been taken from my account.
When I disputed this, Starling said there was nothing they could do.
I followed up to ask for evidence of when they received my dispute and when the funds were taken. I haven't received a reply
If they had paused the payment when I disputed it, I could have saved £177.
Now Starling won't reply to my messages in the app.
Next step is the Financial Ombudsman Service.
P.s it took 1 hour to get a reply to this bad review. It took 2 weeks for their customer services to provide the same answer. What do you think their priorities are?

Credit score 585I have five credit cards, they are legal. It's been two days now and nothing. Four numbers, one address, four numbers, one address, I have a good financial situation. Approximately £18,700 Salary UC Credit and pip payments Let's go. Hopefully, this time they will give me a bank account.

Changed my business banking to Starling a few years ago and for the most part it’s been excellent. My old bank was HSBC which by comparison was old fashioned and awful to use. The only issue I have had is when there was a change of director but not phone number which seemed to blow their minds and create unnecessary problems for something very simple and recently I upgraded my phone, all other banks/cards were no issue at all, Starling made a complete dogs dinner of it.
Pros
• How banking should be in the 21st century
• can always speak to someone quickly
• secure
• app is excellent, easily the most simple and intuitive banking app I use
Cons
• can be very rigid to any minor changes to the account

Starling Bank closed my account for their own reasons and I am raising various complaints with the FCA and FO about that but of more immediate concern is that Starling Bank promised my funds would be returned to me by Friday 1st May - this has not happened and they is no information forthcoming from the bank.
Customer Support is very restricted in what they can actually do - mainly conversations with them result in something being escalated and then nothing being heard.
Not behaviour one would expect from a bank with the motto Good With Money. It seems they have grown too fast and have lost sight of the customer. I would avoid!
See response below from Starling Bank...they dont even really respond to the issue. They just refer you to the terms and conditions whereas what I would like to know is where my money is!! The problem is automated responses I am afraid and no real understanding of the customer.

They can suddenly freeze your account the moment you deposit additional funds and move your money out of your account into theirs without paying any interest — even after you’ve provided all the documentation they requested. They then sit on your funds while dragging the entire process out under the guise of complaints or compliance procedures.
Monitor the account for sure but don't take the money out of my account without permission. This is illegal.

Shocking. Been with Starling 5 years and son had a kite card. Turns 16 and applies for 16-17 account. Refused no reason given and will not discuss with me or him the reason for refusal. Tried again 6 months later - same response. Off to Monzo and closing my account at the same time
Following Starling response rating stays the same. The links you gave do not explain the criteria used. 2 parents excellent credit score, daughter early twenties no problems all with Starling but 16 year old who has used the kite service without any issue - refused. Strange decision. Some posts say they only have so many accounts for teens to issue but frustrating no way of finding out why refused as they explicitly state no reason can or will be given. Disgraceful. Do not expect you to change your mind but at least tell people why. Monzo accepted yesterday no problems. 2 parents now switching away - no wonder Monzo outperforms in Customer satisfaction with a rating 82% for overall service quality and 87% for online and mobile banking services.

We've been banking with Starling for a number of years now with a business account and have never had any issues. The app is very easy to navigate and make payments from.
The link to our accounting software platform is seamless, and this makes it very easy to keep track of all banking transactions.
I would definitely recommend.

Easy to use app makes banking straightforward. I like the notifications for spending, inward payments and upcoming debits. Spaces work well for saving for something special, and ease of transfer between my account, our joint account, my Euro account and my savings space is great. Setting everything up was very easy in the app.

Dealing with the help desk is consistently poor . The app is not easy to naigate and locate the messages they have sent you and there is no consistency in their approach to accounts

It took three different people three days to turn down a temporary over draft of £100 required for 10 days. A direct debit due to be paid was rejected when funds were arriving, shown on the app arriving at midnight that day. Sadly, like old stayle banking, nothings changed apart from having an app. The personal touch, so welcome with old style banking, has gone. Its now computers and AI. !!
