A Warning for Overseas Buyers: Condition Discrepancy in a “New” Tool Sale

⚠️ When “New” Doesn’t Mean New – A Warning for International Buyers

There is a simple expectation in online commerce: when a product is advertised and sold as “new,” buyers expect to receive an item in new condition. 📦✅

Unfortunately, that expectation was not met in this case.

A professional industrial tool purchased from Steel Sage arrived overseas showing visible signs of wear, including rust, marks, surface damage, and handling consistent with prior use or improper storage. For most consumers, these are not characteristics commonly associated with a product being sold as new. 🔧⚠️

The more troubling issue emerged after the condition was reported to the seller.

Rather than acknowledging that the item's appearance could reasonably concern a customer, the seller maintained that such wear was acceptable for an industrial tool and continued to classify the product as new. This left the buyer in an impossible position: either accept a questionable product for professional use or begin a complicated international return process. 🌍📦

💸 The hidden cost of international returns

While the original purchase price was eventually refunded after the tool was returned, several practical costs remained with the customer. International forwarding fees, shipping expenses, delays, administrative effort, and the loss of time invested in resolving the dispute were not fully recoverable.

For domestic customers, returning an item may be an inconvenience.

For overseas buyers, it can become an expensive problem.

📸 A lesson for future customers

Anyone considering purchasing from this seller—particularly from outside the UK—should take extra precautions:

• Save screenshots of the original listing.
• Record the parcel opening process.
• Photograph the item immediately upon arrival.
• Retain all shipping documentation and correspondence.
• Understand that recovering every cost associated with a problematic international transaction may prove difficult.

📢 Final observation

This review is based on a genuine purchasing experience and is shared for one reason only: to help future buyers make an informed decision.

The issue was not simply the condition of the tool itself. The larger concern was the gap between a buyer's reasonable expectation of a “new” product and the seller's interpretation of what that description means.

For international customers, that distinction can become very expensive.
