While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

Ok when it works, but . . .

Generally, Submittable works well. I use it for sending articles to literary magazines that don't have a submission manager of their own.

Lately, though, I've run into a problem: the system has been rejecting my credit card. I've asked Submittable for help, but they seem unable to fix the problem and are unwilling to connect me with Stripe, their system provider, and then say "We've done all we can." But actually they haven't really done anything.

I hope they will fix the bug and provide better service in the future.

Poor Customer Service, Unusable Product

Customer support wasted hours of my time when there are much more important things I should be dealing with.

I stated in my first message to customer support that I couldn't login, that verification codes were failing, and that they were taking up to an hour to come through.

After a lot of back and forth, and bizarre suggestions like deleting all the emails I've received from a specific Submittable address, I again mentioned how long the code emails were taking, and specifically asked how long it is before the codes expire.

Apparently it's 5 minutes, a very short time. This isn't a bank I'm trying to login to, and I'm using the correct login details.

That makes Submittable unusable for me.

Their website is very confusing

Their website is very confusing! I could NOT find a tab or anywhere to submit my work. The help articles were NOT helpful! They did not tell me HOW to make a submission. How do you submit your work on submittable??

Glitch with Visa card payments, refunds difficult to request, submission withdrawn without consent.

Payment with a Visa card is problematic. My two failed payments were still deducted from my bank account. When I asked for the refunds, the process was so tedious as I had to contact the magazine editor so the magazine could ask for the full refund and then I had to resubmit my entry with a new payment. When my bank disputed the extra payment to Submittable, my contest entry was just withdrawn by Submittable without my consent.

Dispute settlement is extremely unfair to the submitter. Staff members who handled complaints were unhelpful, dismissive, and unfriendly. I don't trust the site to make any more payments.

Magazines and other organizations should use another submission platform that won't cause any inconvenience to submitters.

I tend to stay away from Submittable

I tend to stay away from Submittable. I know its convenient for the publishers, however between the 3 dollar fees and a large amount of no responses I would look elsewhere. The best way to submit is an email to the editor.

It's a blurry line between bad service and...

I paid for a submission and a copy of a publication from a press. 10 months later, nothing. I reached out to the press multiple times, no reply. When I contacted Submittable, they said, "We leave it up to the submitter to research the organization and determine whether or not it's a good fit before making a submission." You can't sell things on a platform and offer no support.

Submitted my work, wanted to get at least some finances, Instead got reply with appology stating they won't process my copy. Guess what now they have my copy and won't pay me even 50% of what I wrote. And it was a life lesson. I highly encourage to stay away from such company. If management see this letter. I don't even care anymore, but I feel that I been used.

Submittable Scams

There are legit magazines and presses using Submittable. But, there are also numerous scams on Submittable. You send in a fee and never hear anything again. When you complain to Submittable management, they do not help. They want to cover it up. Before submitting, you have to check out the magazine. There are many small presses and journals.
