EVERY time I need support from…
EVERY time I need support from synology, the support wastes hours of time and ends of NOT addressing or fixing any problems.
It is terrible support. Go elsewhere unless you are a total tech networking nerd, you will find this NAS complex and unworkable.
Screwing customers is not a great idea.
Long time user (more than 10 years) a recent "update" removed the ability to read several file image format in Synology Photos, I will never trust this company again and decided to purchase another brand for my new storage system.
Does Synology Even Have More Than ONE Tech?
When I purchased my Synology NAS several years ago, I found their support pretty good. I had some issues getting it set up, but their Tech walked me through it. However, just recently I had a couple of new issues with it, and reached out to Synology for support. That is when I discovered that their support had nose-dived. I literally spent a MONTH of text exchanges back and forth, trying to troubleshoot the first problem virtually, and then trying to schedule a phone call. A FULL MONTH. (On one occasion, I had a call scheduled but never heard from them. When I called their main support number, they told me that the Tech "had forgotten" about the call. (Sheeesh.) Once I reached the Tech, he helped me with on issue, but never addressed the second - the NAS NEVER stops accessing its drives. When I reached back out to him to remind him that I still had another issue, the whole process started all over again with my exchanging messages back and forth... . In one text, he actually asked me to send him a video recording of the front of my NAS so he could see the lights blinking and then messaged me that he thought my hard drives were failing! No troubleshooting. No utility to ascertain their health. He made that determination by looking at the flashing lights. It has been truly maddening. I would NEVER buy another Synology product and recommend that others avoid them.
egoistic limitation of disk compatibility
egoistic limitation of disk compatibility frow 2025 onwards
Junk would be a understatement
Junk would be a understatement. Maybe good as a standalone but as a NAS pure junk
Great tech support …
My system was set up by an ex colleague and I had no access to log ins or much knowledge of configuration etc. The system was not functioning properly. Synology tech support were super helpful and patient, helping me reset the login etc and resolving the issue. System is up and running and extremely fast. I wish customer service at other companies was as good.
New drive client software corrupt and blocks company workflow
New drive client software was released without validation, and constantly blocks due to which syncing is not possible. In the meantime they spent more than 1,5 month in troubleshooting without finding a solution. Answers come with delay, and in the meantime your company is hijacked.
A longtime advocate, now looking elsewhere
I've been running a Synology NAS since 2020 and it's been rock solid - genuinely one of the best tech purchases I've made. I've happily recommended Synology to friends and family for years.
That changes now.
The recent drive compatibility restrictions are a fundamental shift away from what made Synology appealing in the first place: reliable, flexible, user-respecting hardware. When my sister recently asked for a home NAS recommendation, I found myself unable to suggest Synology in good conscience. We're going with UGreen instead.
This isn't about one lost sale - it's about losing the trust of the enthusiast community that built your reputation through word-of-mouth. The people who set up NAS units for their less tech-savvy family members. The people who used to recommend you without hesitation.
I hope leadership reconsiders this direction. Until then, my recommendations go elsewhere.
Who hired the one who makes this decision
I have been using Synology drives for around 20 years. I am in my third NAS, using it for both my company and personal stuff. But this is now coming to an end, because of their ridiculous policy of restricting their units to only being compatible with synology drives.
Quite frankly, it is difficult to overstimate the stupidity of whoever made this decision and thought it was a good idea. People put a lot of emphasis on hiring low-level workers, and then not much thought goes into hiring a top flier that with one single decision has completely trashed what was considered by many, definitely me, the gold standard in mid-tier external storage.
Congratulations. I am replacing my units, and, probably just like many people, will not come back to a company that has shown so little respect for their current users.
Stay Away.
I bought my second Synology as an upgrade, I can not use any of my drives or SSDs, on top of that the cost of the Synology drives are double the cost and the M.2 drives are more than 6 times the cost.
Never getting Synology again and recommending everyone stay away.
This Synology Photo App was great
This Synology Photo App was great, but now it is a pain in the neck and a waist of time. It does something, but not do at all, what it should do. A big mess at all.
Synologys arrogant approach to using…
Synologys arrogant approach to using only their drives cost my client and myself a lot of $$. We have over 35 NAS units of all models in use, and i can assure you that there will be no more. Support is slow to reply, constantly giving me instructions (the same over and over) and when i have something to update them with, i wait a day and any one could reply, and it all starts again.
Its time to move to QNap and recent experience tells me that these are so easy to set up and run well.
Go away Synology!
I am very happy
I have 2 NAS from Synology and a Synology Router. I am very happy with the stability and performance of the products. My 2 NAS are running without problems for years. And the router has a great User interface which allows to easily set all the need settings.
Thank you. Great products!
A House with locked doors
I am able to understand all IT manuals or instructions.
Except for the Synology manual.
It appears to be written by experts for partial experts.
Full of technical language and abbreviations.
Poor direction and little intelligent use of FAQ or frequent problems.
If you are buying one, factor in the cost of paying an expert to set it up.
It seems a good device, based on reviews and recommendations.
However, I cannot recommend it as it is like buying a house but not having access to most of the rooms.
Please spend more time and money on writing your manuals.
We cannot access our Synology NAS from anyway save home.
My dominant experience of this device is frustration.
Repeated and high levels.
Stay away from Synology
A company that does not value its customers.
IT and the Support at great.
But the people at the top are destroying the company with their short term vision.
The fact that we can't put any other hard drive than the Synology branded ones is wild:
What happens the day I need a hard drive and you can't provide one? Either because you're
-out of stock
-not delivering in my country
-or worst, bankrupt (10 years from now, not unlikely)
I'll tell you what happens then:
I lose all my data!
Great security
Great security. Easy to use. I would give me 10 star if I could.
Bought a €1000,00 unit from retailer but you won't get support!
Bought a €1000,00 unit from Alternate. Stopped working after 6 months completely. Alternate told me this is a manufacturer defect and needs to be properly handled by the Manufacturer. I hit up Synology they at first seem nice they want to help ask me Serial Number and Receipt i provide them all. And then they tell me to solve this with Alternate after telling them 100 times Alternate could not help they still tell me they are unwilling to help and i should contact the Retailer they clearly don't understand what Manufacturer warranty means. Now i am stuck with a broken server which was used for our company they don't seem to care at all about you or your business. Do not buy a server from their brand when it breaks you are left empty handed! No support, no repair or replacement nothing!
I hope Synology sees this and finally takes me serious! Because i am pissed off!
Synolgy BeeStation worked OK for file storage
I bought the Synology BeeStation NAS. I only wanted network storage and it worked fine, and I would have given 5 stars but the documentation missed something critical that wasted my time.
I deeply regret spending thousands of…
I deeply regret spending thousands of dollars on this piece of junk, and I’m convinced all the positive reviews are paid for, because this system is HELL! It’s so poorly designed — even after going through countless settings, family members still can’t log in. The admin panel shows a user is added, but they can’t access anything.
It’s made in such a way that you’re forced to use an entirely separate app just to confirm your identity and log in — and even that process is far from easy and often doesn’t work. This device is total garbage, and I don’t understand how so many people are buying it — I fell for it because of what were probably sponsored YouTube videos.
Dont use their NAS as fileserver on macOS
I have had incorrect dates and times on my files for a while without Synology being able to fix the problem.
Most recently, all files have the same date because a battery needs to be replaced. In total, there are about 60,000 files with incorrect dates.
My conclusion is that their NAS cannot be used as a file server on a macOS system.
