Prepaid is frustrating at best

I used the T-Mobile prepaid service from January 2025 until today, when I switched to another carrier because of how terrible account management has been. First off, the service itself is fine. It works as long as you don't need to do anything special. Coverage is good, and bandwidth is decent enough. For $15/month it's not a bad plan.

Managing your account or making changes though, is frustrating at best. The Prepaid service is treated like a second-rate citizen, so you'll be constantly told by support that they need to transfer you. There's no dedicated prepaid support number listed on their website, nor is there a chat link for it. There's also no way to purchase an international pass with prepaid, you can't use the app to manage or view your account, and the website has constant issues with logging you in. I hit my data limit today and wanted to renew early, but apparently this isn't possible either. The only option was to pay their extortionist $10/GB addon pricing, or upgrade my account tier to get more data. I'd had enough at this point, so I ported my number to another carrier.

After this was complete, my T-Mobile account was immediately closed, removing all access to billing history and account details. Lovely. I also received a billing notification after my account was closed, which took another 45 minutes faffing about with support to confirm I can just ignore. I asked the support guy if there was a place to submit feedback, and it turns out "valued customers" sometimes get a survey via email, but there's otherwise no way to let them know just how terrible their account management is.

If you get a good deal for a prepaid plan, great. Go for it. Just be prepared for a horrible account management experience, and mostly useless customer support.

Edit: they sent me a survey but I can't complete it because it requires an active T-Mobile account to log in with. You can't make this stuff up.

I contacted customers service about an…

I contacted customers service about an issue with my uncles phone . His phone is locked and he has not been able to receive or make phone calls since Thursday and it is Sunday . He is on a prepaid multiple lines with myself and another family member. The bill has been paid ,but his phone is locked when called Friday . After speaking to several different agents. I finally spoke to a lady who walked me through . Telling me his phone was locked and would have to see if qualified to be unlocked . I assured her there should be no reason his phone should be locked because it was an incentive to get us to switch from US cellular to T- mobile as a gift for switching no contract ,strings or anything mentioned . She stated yes he was qualified to get unlocked, bill was paid . However ,being the weekend it could be up to Monday before came back on . I told her I was a nice person ,but this was not our problem they did this. Lock someones phone for no reason . My uncle lives alone thats the only way can get a hold of the family . She said she would put a rush on it see if get moved up . I was very appreciative. However, here it is 9 at night Sunday and his phone is still not on . I am not satisfied with the service. Very disappointed. The phones don't work half the time right and for someone to do something like that to someone then say will fix it, just not to.Very disappointed 😔.

1400 mile road trip on a 4 lane…

1400 mile road trip on a 4 lane highway. Large percentage of the time T-Mobile phone spent in SOS mode while Verizon and AT&T phones had near full to full service. All three of the phones were apple products sitting side by side.
Also, T Mobile has an unpublished inside policy (not a contractual agreement with the consumer ) that requires a new phone to be activated for forty days before they will unlock the sim card. Even when the phone is purchased in full. They refuse to unlock a phone for any reason until that time frame has lapsed.
Tell us T-Mobile…what is the purpose of this? Several mobile providers sale the new phones completely unlocked including Apple themselves. I highly discourage the use of T-Mobile as a cellular provider

horrible experience, never recouped my money

so I signed up for the service and then there was no service at my house. so I returned the phone. canceled it. and several months later I noticed I was still getting billed monthly. after three or four calls I finally got them to stop charging my card, but it was a horrible time on the phone, I lost over $600 total. my wife had Sprint service that change to T-Mobile and I wanted to put her on my cricket plan. so we canceled her service. I thought the Sprint service was prepay we pay at the beginning of every month. but then they came up with a $45 charge for whatever reason and I didn't pay it right away. so they charged it off and tried to ruin my credit. I did then eventually pay the collectors an exorbitant amount, horrible horrible experience with T-Mobile

USE PREPAID SERVICES ESCAPES TRAPS

Let’s start with you find yourself going into store buy a phone get quoted a service and then you off 60 dollars per line and yeahhh let’s bundle to save 10 dollars to add home internet, 150 sounds familiar? Well they lied to me … with horrible service and continuous up charge on my bill
The so called special plan for me turn next month to 180.00 per month
Then next month 222 per month always some excuse
Not to add drop calls , dead zones , service interruptions where I had no internet for days tried to give me 1.82 cents off ea day!🤦‍♀️
I got the game
No more
I’m going prepaid
Therefore I pay 60 dollars per line
And no matter what my bill will never include late fees and I still get to keep my phone number
and before I do that here’s how to dispute them in every way and before you sue them contact excuti office and follow these steps
Because cheating us in high numbers they’re earning millions … then we agree to some class action lawsuits getting only 20 to 30 dollars per person which saves them because they technically cheated hundreds of doll per person THEY STILL GOT PAID MILLIONS
sue them individually deny the class action check
Steps to Resolve Your Billing DisputeGather Evidence: Collect all text messages, emails, and screenshots showing the promised $60 and $20 credits.
Note the exact dates your service was out.File a Notice of Dispute: T-Mobile’s Terms and Conditions require you to submit a formal Notice of Dispute before taking them to court or arbitration.

Submit Regulatory Complaints: If customer service fails to resolve the issue, file a formal complaint with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This frequently gets escalated to T-Mobile’s executive resolution team.Initiate Arbitration: If the company refuses to honor your credits or refund the restore fee, you can file a claim through the American Arbitration Association (AAA) or Small Claims Court. T-Mobile's internal dispute resolution site can guide you through the process.

T-Mobile can't access my records but they can charge me.

My company tried to use the T-Mobile 5G Home Internet Service. In brief, it wasn't fast enough for our company., We cancelled the service after a couple of days, got a return authorization, sent the device back and received confirmation that it was received and my account was cancelled. Two months later, they have started billing us for the service. Customer service says that when you cancel your account, the secret code you used to set up the account is discarded. So they say there is no way for them to find out why we are still being billed. It's absolutely Orwellian!

Do you want a migraine headache every other month. Do you want to argue with 4 people in a row about your bill . It takes so much energy to deal with t mobile . You will need anxiety medicine just to try to pay your bill. They lie no integrity..they tell you whatever to get you to switch over and the next month almost double your bill. If they say your bill will be $87.00 ..second month the clown show starts $141.00 .Noone knows nothing..You'll have to explain yourself over and over. Mentally I couldn't do it..my mental health is more Important .They break your contract ...I will never in this lifetime get a phone with t mobile Ever!

T-Mobile Lied To Me

T-Mobile made me a promise years ago that they would never raise my rates. They have downgraded my service one time to avoid "raising my rates" and twice since more - recently in fact - they have just said "screw it" and raised my rates anyway. I have been with the company since its founding. I am leaving this month - even if it means paying more - because I do not like being lied to, nor do I like the cavalier attitude that the company's leadership exhibit on this issue. I am also tired of being forced to use AI or an app instead of real people. Their motto seems to be "WE'RE not happy until YOU'RE not happy."

T Mobile Internet is not a good option in Maine

T Mobile is good in some large urban areas but in southern Maine they are awful. They apparently don't anticipate the massive influx of tourists in the summer so their Internet is overwhelmed. It really is not usable for much of the time. Don't waste time trying their home Internet service.

Continued Billing After Cancellation Is Unacceptable

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with T-Mobile has been unacceptable.

I canceled my service and switched to AT&T, yet T-Mobile has continued billing me for service I am not receiving. This happened during one of the most financially difficult periods of my life, making the situation even more frustrating and damaging.

There is no justification for charging a customer after their service has been canceled. Every unauthorized charge feels like money being taken from someone who is already struggling. Whether it’s due to poor internal processes or a failure to properly process cancellations, the end result is the same: customers are paying for something they do not have.

I’ve spent enough time dealing with this issue. A telecommunications company of T-Mobile’s size should have systems in place to ensure that canceled accounts stop being billed immediately. Instead, I’ve been left to chase down charges that should never have occurred.

If you’re considering T-Mobile, pay close attention to your bills if you ever decide to leave. My experience has been that canceling service did not stop the charges, and I’ve been forced to fight to recover money that never should have been taken in the first place.

This experience has completely destroyed my trust in T-Mobile. I cannot recommend a company that continues to bill former customers for services they are no longer receiving.

If I could leave 0 stars

If I could leave 0 stars, I would.
First of all, I was an AT&T customer for over 20 years. Paid all my devices off and decided to try a new phone carrier. So I called T-Mobile.
The sale person kept trying to upsell me the whole conversation even though I told him I was a veteran on a budget.
He also told me I was entitled to 2 $300 Mastercard gift cards. Which I would have submit myself, of course. Nothing is ever easy for the customer.
He also told me I was all set and hung up.
I was not all set. My lines were not connected!! I had to immediately call back and wait to get the lines connected.
I then try to submit the refunds I was told about. I go on the T-Mobile promotions site and can’t find the promotion I was told I was entitled to. So I had to call T Mobile….again!!! Yay!!! And the lady I talked to had no idea what I was talking about and just talked in circles and basically told me to wait 24 hours.
That’s all their answer is. Just wait.
They just wanted me off the phone .
I wait the 24 hours. Look on their promotions page and that promotion is not on there. Like I said it wouldn’t be.
I have to call back again.
This time I get a woman who talks in circles to me and can not give me a straight response. And every time I ask for a manager or supervisor, they are always busy. The lady had no idea what I was talking about so in frustration I called Verizon and canceled T-Mobile. All I wanted to know was if I was getting these gift cards or not. No one could seem to tell me!!!
I call T Mobile back later that day to verify my account was canceled.
The person who answered actually was a supervisor. I told him all my terrible experiences with his company so far. He said he was upset with how I was being treated and he knew except what promotion I was entitled to!! So the promotion i was told about was real!!! Just all the customer service people I called didn’t know what I was talking about. So the people I talked to earlier had no idea how to do their jobs apparently or just were not trained well. The gentleman tried to get me to go back but I was not going to switch service for the 3rd time in 3 days.
So I figured I would get a final bill for the 3 days I used them and that would be the end of my bad experience with this company. Well, two days ago I wake up to a pending withdrawal from my checking from T-Mobile for $91. A full bill cycle!!! When they closed my account, they didn’t deactivate my autopay!!! I called right away. The lady tried to tell me that technically I owed the whole month, that they prorate me for just a few days!!! I was immediately upset again. She then did tell me since I’ve been having such a bad experience that she would try to get the charges reversed and told me to contact my bank.
Well the payment still went through. I called T-Mobile today. Again. The woman who answered did not help me. I asked right away for a supervisor. She never got me one. Just kept telling me they were busy. Meanwhile, she is telling me what all T-Mobile customer service people have….just wait longer. SMH
So we will see if I get my money back. I was with this company for only 3 days and I have never ever been treated so terribly or dealt with a company that could not just give me a straight answer.
There is always something else with them. Do yourself a favor and never ever join this terrible company. They will say all the right things to get you as a customer and then not want to help you out at all once you are a customer. I have never been so upset with a customer.
