Trusts and Estates

Having used Talbots Law previously I had no hesitation about contacting them again to update my will. Sue Howard and her team were professional, friendly and efficient. Sue suggested a layout that was easy to read and understand, which I happily took onboard. I would like to thank Erin for her prompt communication and draft corrections. Sue took me through the final draft to ensure all was okay and happily answered any questions that I had. Certainly would recommend.

I used Talbots for the purchase of our next home and also to help with the sale of our previous home. We had the pleasure of dealing with Khaled and Prateek. Both were very prompt with communication. Khaled helped guide us during the process, offered good advice and always answered our questions quickly, leaving the solicitor part of the process a lot less stressful than what I have experienced in the past. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Talbots to others and particularly Khaled. Thanks again for all the help.

Talbot's solicitors

I dealt with Talbot's law 12 yrs ago and they were very good No complaints. This time However it was very different.I had to keep chasing them to see what was happening On the first day we went to the waterfront offices and gave proof we had the funds to purchase the house Someone copied the proof However this was "lost"for 6 days when I offered to send photographs myself they said no need Magically the proof turned up the next day.We were transfered to another office within 2 days.(Never told why but we couldn't talk face to face as before which was disappointing.)Then the long running saga of where we had our money from(I understand the government pressurises them because of money laundering)but we had to go back 26 years to prove we were legitimate Then we had a small business before we retired They needed proof of earnings though it was so small we never paid tax.We said we don't have proof as it was 9 years ago and our books were scrapped That wasn't good enough. Can you go on the government gateway to access your records We did that and the screen said This account is deleted so no records We sent the screenshot to our solicitor thinking that's that .He said can you try again tomorrow 🤔🤔This on top of holding back our moving date deliberately (10 days to ask our sellers solicitors a question)Our buyers and sellers both said they were told the move would be on the 31st July Our solicitor said 8th of August and coerced everyone else's solicitor to accept Our sellers didn't know when to ask someone to move them neither did we .We finally transferred all the money to buy on Wednesday the 6th 2 days before our move We were encouraged to travel to our new home 60 miles away at 11 o clock on Friday When we arrived our sellers solicitors said we haven't received the money yet.We had to wait another 2 hours before we could move in No explanation as to why the money wasn't there or a Were sorry about that. To sum up. There is no way I will use them again.I know everyone has horror stories and problems and things do happen but I was desperately disappointed with their service

Wouldn’t recommend

Used talbots law to purchase my first property. It took much longer than it needed to, a number of emails were ignored and had to keep calling them for updates as they would go weeks and weeks with no contact. Even when calling it felt like you were an inconvenience. Got it done eventually but wouldn’t recommend.

I completed on a house last year and decided to go with Talbots for their good reputation.

I wasn't disappointed. Amelia was responsive and dealt with all questions promptly and was professional throughout. The seller's solicitor left a lot to be desired and further highlighted Talbot's professionalism and thoroughness in their legal conduct.

Thanks Amelia - appreciate all your help and all the best.

Rating: ⭐️ (1/2 Star if I could)

My house-buying process took over seven months, and it was an absolute nightmare from start to finish. A huge part of this was due to the staff/firm’s lack of knowledge and attention to detail which may have been owing to the fact that they assigned a trainee solicitor and paralegal to my case who simply didn't have a clue what they were doing and provided me with no escalation channels.

This was supposed to be a simplistic first-time buyer purchase on a new build development (no chain!), yet they made countless errors throughout.

The Basics: Their very first mistake was billing me for stamp duty when I was a first-time buyer and didn't owe it.

Financial Errors: I had to check everything they did and correct their mistakes myself. They nearly over-billed me by over a thousand pounds in stamp duty.

Data Security Risks: I was forced to email highly sensitive, confidential financial documents back and forth with zero security. When I asked if they had a secure portal or system to share documents, I was told, "Oh no, there's one being developed, but at the moment you just have to email everything." While I tried to protect my data by marking my emails confidential, they made zero effort to reciprocate or protect my information.

Red Tape & Contradictions: They were overly strict and disorganized regarding deposit gifts. They dragged us through endless hoops trying to trace the origin of gift money, asking for proof of where it came from, and then demanding a step-by-step audit of every account it had touched in between. When money has been moved around over time, keeping track of every split transfer is nearly impossible. After putting us through immense stress over it, they suddenly backflipped and accepted it anyway, leaving us wondering why they made such a massive fuss in the first place if they didn't actually need it.

Refusal to Negotiate: I asked them to negotiate with the developer regarding the unfinished access road, but they basically told me they couldn’t do it (!) leaving me waiting months for the road to be finished before I could finally move.

Expired Mortgage: Because everything took so long due to their constant errors and delays, my mortgage offer expired, forcing a stressful reapplication.

The Shared Mailbox Blunder: Right at the finish line when I was waiting for keys, they claimed they hadn't received the new mortgage offer. I called the lender directly, only to be told it had been sitting in the firm's shared team mailbox for over a week. When confronted, their excuse was literally, "Oh, sorry, we don't check that mailbox very often."

On top of this, there was zero consistency with staffing (different people constantly replying), documents were littered with spelling and drafting errors, and communication was poor. When things went wrong, they made excuses, rarely apologized, and never apologized in writing. Escalating it to someone senior completely went nowhere. Oh and do not try to exchange and complete around Christmas, because firms shut down for two whole weeks and leave you stranded!

If you want a conveyancer who actually knows what they are doing, handles your money correctly, and doesn't force you to do their job for them, look elsewhere.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the immense frustration, stress, and delays you experienced during your home purchase. The level of service, communication, and oversight you have described falls far short of the standards we strive to maintain at Talbots Law.

We take allegations regarding financial inaccuracies, data handling, staffing continuity, and delays extremely seriously. While conveyancing processes require strict adherence to Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks and lender requirements, these processes should always be handled clearly, efficiently, and professionally without causing unnecessary disruption or distress.

We would welcome the opportunity to investigate your file fully, including the handling of your mortgage offer, fee structure, and data security concerns. Please contact our Client Care team directly at clientcare@talbotslaw.co.uk so that we can review your case and discuss your concerns with you directly.

Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.

I cannot recommend Nerinder Sira highly…

I cannot recommend Nerinder Sira highly enough. Throughout my house purchase, there were times when it genuinely felt like she was the only person actively supporting me and helping navigate discussions between the estate agents, the seller and the seller's solicitors.

Nerinder was exceptionally knowledgeable, compassionate and professional from start to finish. She provided clear advice, kept me informed throughout the process and always had my best interests at heart. Her dedication, attention to detail, and ability to manage a complex transaction gave me confidence during what can be a very stressful experience.

If you're looking for a solicitor who truly cares about her clients and goes above and beyond, I would wholeheartedly recommend Nerinder Sira.
