Six years since we last hired an RV from Tassie Motor Shacks
It has been six years since we last hired an RV from Tassie Motor Shacks, when we gave them a well-deserved five-star review. Recently, we contacted Rob and Joe in Hobart, to ask what had changed since our last hire.
They explained that they have now teamed up with Let’s Go Motorhomes from the mainland. Rather than focusing on mainland reviews, we simply asked whether we could expect the same level of service as before. The answer was a definite yes!
The new RVs are now brought over from Melbourne, and we were told that Jayco models are more spacious than our previous hire. Ours included an electronically raised queen-size bed, a much larger fridge and freezer, a separate shower and toilet, plus a separate wash basin between.
At the end of the day, being able to push a button—one that worked every time—instead of making up a bed each night was ideal. Each morning, after getting out of bed and quickly tidying it, a single button raised the bed neatly into the ceiling. Another button lifted the table, revealing comfortable cushioned seating on either side. Simple, effortless, and very well designed.
If it was raining, it was easy to step internally from the driver’s or passenger’s seat straight into the living area—no need to go outside. There was also a decent skylight with fly mesh and blind, along with a choice of blue or yellow lighting at either end of the skylight.
Storage was far superior to our previous hire, with a mix of large and smaller compartments—we never even used them all. We didn’t get around to turning on the TV, as we managed to get reception on the iPad along most of the east coast of Tasmania and into the north. Perhaps we were just lucky. Charging phones and the iPad was easy, with power points beside the table and in the front, just where you’d expect them.
Driving the Jayco was just as easy as the original long-wheelbase Mercedes we had previously, on my WA car driver’s licence. One word of warning: be mindful of sudden wind gusts. When parking, make sure the wind is coming from the front rather than the rear. I nearly got pulled out of the driver’s seat when opening the door in an unexpected 50 km/h gust!
We are both in our seventies and thoroughly enjoyed our ten days of wandering. Joe and Rob were thoughtful and helpful throughout, including ensuring our bond was returned within days of returning the RV.
Once again, excellent service and a memorable experience.
