Telstra customer service is appalling

I have been with Telstra for many years as that is the best coverage where I live.
I have 4 phones attached to my account and pay a monthly bill of $255.00.
When I set up AutoPay Telstra only accepted a Debit Card, this is attached to my bank account and is my money not credit.
On the 4th June my account was due to be debited, on the same day my card was compromised so payment did not come out, I rang Telstra and paid it straight away within 50 mins to be exact and now you can use a bank account so I set that up.
On Wednesday I went into JB Hi fi to change over my mobile to the latest iPhone 17 only to be told that Telstra put a stop on my account for 6months due to a failed payment.
I would understand this if it was paid a day late but it was due on the 4th and paid on the 4th.
I have spoken to customer service, there is none.
I even asked them to look at payment history they advised they can only see 24 months and never an issue.
I have spoken to complaints they simply advise they can’t change it.
I have spoken to the telco ombudsman, they can’t change Telstra policy.
To say I felt humiliated when standing in JBHiFi to be told you didn’t pass the credit rating is not only unjust, humiliating but extremely disrespectful. When I asked the number of operators how they would feel if this was them, they all agreed but no one could change it, well I’ve changed it, my phones were all out of contract so I have gone to prepaid much cheaper, shame I have to stay with Telstra for coverage but I know have a JBHIFi mobile service and Telstra will not get my money again.

Telstra International Roaming

Telstra International Roaming. It’s a joke. Don’t bother. I was told by Telstra it is seamless and it automatically links into their worldwide network. In reality? It is unreliable and expensive.

My partner used Holify and not once did she cut out or lose service in over 6 countries. Telstra? 3 countries it didn’t work and in some cases never connected (Corfu - Telstra helpfully said I was in Albania!). If it did connect, it wasn’t reliable.

And it’s almost twice as expensive as alternatives and with a 2 g limit when it did work it was hopeless as -
surpris surprise - we need maps and other apps. It wasted heaps of battery valiantly trying to connect - only to drop out when I needed it.

Uselsss. DON’t use it!

They don't read the chats and act as if incapable of understanding english

Started a chat with Telstra regarding data reception dropping out regularly along the M1 - the major route between Brisbane and Sydney.
They continually ask for information I've already provided, and ask questions that prove they haven't bothered to read the çhat messages you've sent, at all. I think I'm up to the 5th "see above" referral in the current hat. I have my doubts they are even in Australia. You tell them you're going into a major town along the M1, name the town, state that you're not likely to have issues in the town and they reply with where is your location that you're having issues with.
Another instance, after saying you're travelling along the M1, they asked me to turn off wifi. WTF!

If another entity existed that actually provided coverage and decent customer service operators I would change so fast! Instead Telstra knows they have the best coverage out of the spotty network they provide and there is no choice. Yes I've tried IINET, vodaphone, virgin, and optus. Next would be a satellite phone I think!

Telstra is completely useless

Telstra is completely useless at Trinity beach and spotty around the cairns area. I travelled there expecting Telstra to work the best? My Vodafone sim worked perfectly without problems. Also Telstra is spotty in buildings while my Vodafone sim has no issues. Why are their post paid plans so expensive for this piss poor service. Also direct to mobile never even worked on my iPhone 16 outdoors with no obstruction. I have been with Telstra for less than a month and I’m definitely porting back to my previous provider. I get it, it’s more expensive because they have more rural coverage but having a premium service not work in popular areas is shameful. And having direct to mobile not even work makes this provider useless for me. I’m going to get a boost mobile yearly sim and a Felix Mobile (runs off Vodafone) to have Telstra coverage in very rural areas and unlimited data with Felix. Duel sim’ing these two providers is still cheaper then having the largest Telstra plan😂

Telstra what a joke

Telstra what a joke. No internet on Broadband since Tues 23rd, this is ok apparently to not have any internet on 2 mobile phones which use Telstra , all the carriers fault, Belong and Woolworths according to Telstra as they did not advise us tower is being worked on until 4th of October, that's right this length of time we will have interuptions, not just interruptions no data can be used at all , on phones and laptop unless I drive away to the park and read my emails . Was told better they work on the towers now and did I know some people do not even have any internet in Australia , go figure I pay Telstra for a service I cannot even use in my own home . Phones have been go in and out all day, with only SOS at times . Good on you Telstra

Telstra does not care about customers.

Telstra no longer care about the average customer they are so big now we seem to be of little significance.
The people that work in the so called customer care are very poor at communication and probably poorly paid as 99.9% I have spoken with their English is not the best weather they are in Australia or off shore makes no difference.
The only way out of this abuse by telstra is to leave if you can, THEY DO NOT CARE you are not where most of their money comes from.

Lachlan is the Best 👌

I have had been with Telstra for ten years. I had no issues at all... my phone plan is $60 - $65 a month and this amazing customer service name in Telstra Cranbourne checked and investigated my usage... Lachlan in Telstra shop Cranbourne Branch, went above and beyond to assist me with all my queries and he is the most friendliest staff at Telstra. He was very polite and professional the most impeccable customer service I have had experienced for ten years...I highly recommended to kindly look for Mr. Lachlan in Telstra Cranbourne branch.

Absolutely useless.

Absolutely useless.

3 times my BUSINESS service has been disconnected this year due to 'non-payment'. 3 times i've saved credit card details.

No debit is attempted. No email is sent. No call is made. No letter received in the mail. Just disconnected.

If there was a star below 1 for rating…

If there was a star below 1 for rating Telstra, they would be in that category. Telstra is by far the worst provider company in Australia. The lack of customer support, the lack of resolving an issue. It’s nearly been one year trying to resolve the same issue and everytime I contact one of their consultants I have to go through the entire process again and again and each time I am left assured that my issue has been resolved and then months later I am hit with another thing from Telstra. It has been absolutely draining, frustrating as I feel like I’m always doing Telstra’s job for them. Talking to a consultant is like talking to a brick wall… they’re all the same they don’t catch on to what you are literally saying to them it’s like they can’t read the question and move onto to asking something completely irrelevant. I’ve been with another service provider for months yet Telstra is still charging me for services that I don’t even have connected anymore and they harass me everyday with calls, texts and emails. Telstra need to shut down.

Telstra's ineptness will result in someone dying one day

Not possible to get Telstra to fix the issue they created on our account unless I call at a time when I have 2 to 3 hours + to resolve the issue including having them formally note that our account is in credit. I generally have to give up and return to work after 40 minutes. Also, not possible to make a complaint unless I can stay on the phone 30 mins or so and then at the end of that, how much longer it takes to actually address the complaint. Plus although our account says credit of $163, they can't actually consider it a credit until they remove their illegal direct debit they set up using a card I once used to pay over the phone. And even then I have to contact NAB to get them to take the money I paid back, and then pay it again to Telstra after they remove their illegal attempts at direct debit.
Not even John Cleese could have thought this one up plus no one would have believed it.
Oh . . . and that they lost and didn't add our GP' last form that lasts for 5 years declaring that someone at the premises has a life threatening condition so that any phone faults have to be fixed within 48 hours . . . that's a different section that I'd have to wait on hold for. And knowing we live in a remote area without good mobile phone coverage.

5G Home broadband recently became…

5G Home broadband recently became available in our area. As we are a long way from an exchange and live down a battleaxe block, we always have difficulty with a hard wire connection. Not wanting to go NBN hybrid we signed up for 5G Home Broadband. Very happy very reliable great speeds for our household which mainly uses it for streaming services. Very happy highly recommend over a hardwired connection.

Philip at the Rockingham WA store great service…

Firstly Philip at the Rockingham WA Telstra store gave us wonderful service. Tried to understand our issue and explained the situation. He even helped us get a good purchase with our points saved. But that's where it stops. Telstra itself is an absolute waste of time. They have an issue in our area with mobile coverage but aren't advising their customers. When you go to the TIO you go round and round in circles with Telstra who advises you to go elsewhere. What business sends you away rather than resolve the problem - a shoddy one ! They take huge amounts of money from you but don't provide a service and keep changing their story. 0-1 bar on a mobile isn't coverage. No high rise buildings no huge traffic, all the excuses to say where in a black spot. Their equipment has failed and won't be fixed until Nov 25 but they're not telling their customers this. Shameful !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Possibly the worst large organisation…

Possibly the worst large organisation in Australia. I can't think of another where the following is normal; online chat is always down, having difficulty or non responsive. The cart in the online store will frequently glitch out. You need to sign in to your account over and over and over and over again. When you place orders it will display an error message. Even though you're a customer for years it asks you to go to Telstra store to upgrade your phone. The service in South East Melbourne is either 1 bar 5G or 1 bar 4G. Nobody there cares about anything to do with the service they provide and everything they do is rife with errors, mistakes, poorly coded webpages, crappy web store where everything is recommended retail price. It's genuinely the worst of the worst and absolutely nobody who works there could care less, which you know is true because it's always been like this.

The worst service in Australia

The worst service in Australia

11/09/2025 I have just brought new android phone, and new SIM card. The places my Telstra network phone internet doesn't work, is at home & at work...

The A.I app service, and help, is absolute shit, it classes me as a business, when I'm a personal customer, and you cannot use the 24/7 app for business customers. So the app cuts you off as problem resolved with no resolve.

Telstra is said to have the best network coverage, this is a lie. I have been into the Telstra store and have upgraded for more data, and it's not what I'm receiving.

The A.I is absolute shit. I want to speak to an operator, but I get the famous "Telstra shit result", and it logs me off, as agent has resolved your issue, wanting me to call them. Absolute disgust.

I don't want to speak to India!, my problem is in Australia, as they tell me, it's your location!... Dumb ass I can see the tower from where I am... Then they go on to say it's congestion?, but I live on a farm, with surrounding area only 100-150 people.

No other Telstra customers have this problem... I am the only one, so why is it my old phone done the same thing, and now the new phone and Sim do the same thing?...

The result is an embarrassing service, that is incompetent in every way...
