Blueground Istanbul: Stay away... never book with them.
On March 28th, I tried to book an apartment in Istanbul for my son and his friends, who were starting a two-month internship there in early May. They found their dream place, and the price fit their budget. On March 28th, we proceeded with the booking for a total of €3,663.61 for 63 nights. It’s a significant amount, but the place looked perfect.
The Payment Nightmare
We booked online with a credit card and validated the payment through our bank’s website. However, once the payment was processed, the Blueground website displayed a "booking failed" message.
Since it wasn't the first time an online payment failed, I didn’t panic. I thought it might be a bank limit issue due to the high amount. I used a different card from another bank and tried again. Once again, the bank validated the transaction, but Blueground’s site showed another failure. Checking my Blueground customer area, no booking appeared. Since it was Saturday, I figured I would call them on Monday to see if manual validation was required.
The Shock
On Monday, March 30th, I realized that both bank accounts had been debited €3,663.61 each—a total of €7,327.22. I honestly thought I was going to have a heart attack.
I tried calling Blueground Istanbul, but I now believe this local agency doesn't even exist. They never answered a single call or email. I spent nearly a month contacting them daily via email and social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram). I reached out to people worldwide seeking help; no one ever responded, except for a few people in Greece.
Refund Issues and Hidden Costs
Blueground Istanbul uses a payment platform called Iyzico (a local version of PayPal). I had to contact them myself to get things moving. If I didn't speak English, I don't think I would have ever seen my money again.
It took almost a month to get a refund, but €160 is still missing. Why? Because the Turkish Lira fluctuates daily. You are charged in Euros, but you pay in the local currency of the apartment. When they refund you, it's based on the current exchange rate. Since the Lira is currently low, I lost €160 for an apartment that was never even booked!
Final Verdict: Total Incompetence
I lost a month of my life trying to get my money back. I had to find a last-minute apartment for my son, but I didn't even have the funds left to book it at the time.
No commercial gesture: Blueground never offered any compensation.
No support: They didn't help me find another solution despite holding all my money.
High fees: Blueground charges an exorbitant credit card fee (4.17%), likely to cover Iyzico's commission.
Ghosting: Even Blueground Paris, whom I contacted for help, did absolutely nothing.
I had to handle everything myself and eventually threaten them with a police report.
Avoid Blueground in Istanbul or anywhere else. The apartments look great in photos, but that doesn't matter if the booking system is broken. Furthermore, they charged me twice for the same listing—if a booking is "in process," the apartment shouldn't even be available for a second attempt.
Blueground: you are not only thieves, you are incredibly incompetent. Do yourself a favor: move on and never book with them!
Blueground is an excellent accommodation solution with full services. They are very responsive and quick.
I'm sorry to hear that blueground is not operating anymore in Turkey. I would expect larger geographic present in İstanbul. Repair service for electronic appliance such as washing machine could be improved.

I like the onboarding , app was super userfriendly
However what sucks is the payment. In betweeen my 1 year long stay the payment options were just limited via card and charged a hefty sum towards bank charges . I had given an explnation by customer support team that as a part of product tech changes they had to take down few payment options such as direct bank transfer , but still denying it pay this back.

The unit looks exactly the same as in the photos, which gives me confidence. and communication is quick, and the process has been smooth and efficient, which I really appreciate.

The place was clean, and the instructions were clear for self-check-in. Everything was provided to live for a long time. Plenty of services are available to book in the app, the location is great, and the response time from the staff was quick.

We have been very happy so far. We moved in two days ago, which went very smoothly and the apartment is exactly as it showed up in the pictures.

The apartments are in great conditions and very clean. All my visits have been nice and comfortable. Buildings are well connected to the main areas and neighborhoods. The staff is kind and helpful. Some locations are noisy because of main avenues. Tap water (filtered) sometimes shows particles and internet connection is usually poor and intermittent.

I reported an electricity issue on April 9th, it was marked as fixed on April 10th but the issue was still happening and it’s April 14th, 5 days later and the issue with the light in my bathroom is not fixed yet. It’s annoying because I can not have enough light in the bathroom and it’s frustrating that the issue was marked as fixed without being actually resolved.

I had a poor experience with blueground. There were 3 big issues. 1) the rental did not have street parking and they wouldn't pay the apartment owner for garage parking. they wouldn't help, but when i spoke to another customer they told me they did after several complaints. Note they should have noted clearly on rental no parking available. 2) never received mailbox key or fob. after asking twice i stopped following up. 3) charged $250 for basic cleaning on checkout (no stains, excess garbage or other out of the ordinary items). I assumed that since i paid a $500 cleaning fee, they would do basic cleaning but this is not the case. they appear to treat this a profit center. There is zero chance they spent nearly $750 to clean the apartment. Net/net - this is a service that rents out apartments, furnishes them and collects fees. If you don't have issues and ideal place, it will be good but any exceptions may be a problem, so be careful and I'd lean towards furnished apartments offered by building owners so you don't end up with odd situations like inability to rent a parking spot.

My experience with Blueground was honestly great from start to finish. The booking process was smooth, picking up the keys was easy, and the apartment was exactly as described — clean, well-maintained, and beautifully furnished. The location was also perfect. I genuinely couldn’t find anything to complain about, everything just worked out really well.
