Love the Body Coach app

I cannot rate the Body Coach app enough. I've had Joe's books for a while, and there a lots of workouts on YouTube. But the way the app gives you choice, but direction and structure, is just brilliant. I am now on month 4 of intermediate (I think there are 6, then 9 advanced and then advanced plus too) so my workouts and food won't be repetitive for a while. Also Im vegetarian and theres tonnes of choice, Im rarely hungry, never stuck for something to eat. You can use the app to plan the following week, which automatically generates a shopping list (Im an Android user so can confirm it now has this feature!) Which helps with budgetting too. To anyone who isn't sure whether to sign up, I would say go and have a good delve online. There's loads of YouTube videos, blogs, websites of people who've tried it where there's info about what you get, and you get a 7 day free trial. It does require a lot of commitment, effort and time, but so far I'm 1.5 stone less, happier, healthier and stronger than I've probably ever been as an adult. At the end of the day, losing weight requires change. I have always cooked, but I've learnt so much, always cook from scratch, and find the plan easy to stick to with friends too. The support has been great for me, I've had to contact before to change in check in dates, ask about updating subscription and so on, and have always had a helpful friendly response within 24 hours. Regarding the exercise, you get 5 workouts a month, plus 2 shorter ones, a warm up and a cool down. I do every workout in a week so I do each workout roughly 4 times, which for me is still novel! I find Joe funny, engaging, interactive. He does the moves with you which is great to learn them and be motivated. For me, this app has been incredible and I would highly recommend. No it won't be everyone, but I have learnt more about food, my body, what I'm capable of, and I've got my mojo back! I see some people say it's not worth the money; I am personally not in a financial position to afford a personal trainer, and my partner bought me 3 months for Christmas for 40 pounds, which I think is excellent value, and I have just now changed my subscription to the yearly one as I'm not stopping anytime soon. Yearly is 90 over 12 months which works out less than 8 pounds a month - cheaper than most subscription services when you get food, support, exercises, live workouts every weekday evening, a community, ideas, inspo, check ins, a brilliant to use app - for me this is excellent value. Also no I don't have any links to Joe Wicks or anything, just one very happy customer and hope this can inspire others it may help.

Time limit

I purchased the plan a couple of years ago; it cost me a 3-figure sum. I received the month 1 pdf; it didn’t appear particularly customised to my health and fitness levels. They wouldn’t send me the pdfs for the 2nd & 3rd months until I had completed month 1 and submitted results, so I was unable to ‘file’ it away for future use. For various reasons I was not in a position to begin the plan immediately, and now I don’t appear to have access to it as apparently there’s a 12-month time limit to use it. As far as I was concerned I was purchasing a 3 month diet plan in its entirety, not a 12-month subscription. I feel swindled.

This was the biggest waste of money and…

This was the biggest waste of money and biggest scam ever. I took a 90 day program for vegetarians. I would have loved it to be vegan, but that wasn’t an option. I thought, vegetarian, how bad can it be? Well, it was horrendous. 95% of the recipes had massive amounts of eggs and dairy. It is as if they do not know any kind of plant-based protein sources.

In addition, there is close to no support. They bost about having a dedicated team of people to support you along the journey, but in reality it was very underwhelming.

I think you can find better recipes online and better trainings on his YouTube channel. It baffles me that you only got 5 videos as part of the training for an entire month and that they simply told you “if you rather do other ones, go to his YouTube page and do those… I mean, then what is the point of paying?

Also, they wouldn’t disclose your macros or how to calculate them yourself (in case you wanted to cook other recipes). It was like you were asking them for CocaCola’s secret recipe.

It was an awful experience and I wish I had seen more reviews about him and his program. If you’re in doubt, DO NOT DO IT.

Loss in strength

Have always been fit and strong and exercised regularly. Did the plan and app for over a year as an experiment to see the differences between hiit against a mixture of strength training and cardio.

I lost weight but I also lost strength. I can’t see how untrained people could stay motivated with this plan, as the training is mentally tough and you need to be in a calorie deficit.

What I’ve realised is that hiit should only really be done max twice a week and strength training with cardio produces better results. The app is not tailored and the exercises leave you in pieces but with very little positive physical benefits. Mentally you may feel better but if your not seeing physical results or in my case actually losing strength then the mental side becomes affected.

If you like Joe and hiit then stick to his free YouTube videos. If you want to go get stronger and leaner, weight train with a few cardio days. More sustainable 👍

Not great, felt awful and full and put on weight.

So I purchased the plan as I had friends who had a great experience on this. Unfortunately I did not have a great experience on the plan. It is not that personalised, considering I am a very inactive person and the exercises given I tried hard to do 4-5 sessions a week along with all the prepping and cooking but just could not sustain it. I felt awful after the exercising and in the end had to go and see a pysiotherapist for the pain I was in with my knees and neck. I did use the warm up videos and cool down videos as Joe states this is to avoid injury. I lost only a slight bit of weight from cycle one to cycle 2 but ended putting on weight and inches from cycle 2 going onto cycle 3, still following the plan and still trying to exercise through pain. What was really annoying is no one contacted me after I entered my cycle 2 measurements why they had increased even though I had followed the plan but got a robotic email sent with my cycle 3 workplan well done your doing well errrrrmmmmm dont think so??? I felt also I was eating way too much and felt bloated and full. Also be prepared to purchase expensive dumbells to use which I could not really afford but did. Luckily I told some of my friends that were thinking of doing this that there are dumbell exercises which a lot of them hate this so will not do them. I got a bit depressed as well seeing Joe working out in front of me and just felt awful trying to keep up with him or trying to work at my own pace. It would be good to personalise this to someone who fitted my profile working out with me on the journey so I could see how they exercise. Also has Joe ever cooked these recipes with the accurate weight quantities specified as a lot of the time they do not look like what is on the picture????? Not recommend.

I purchased the plan with an open mind…

I purchased the plan with an open mind as the cost wasn't onerous. Prepping for week 1 took ages. As a vegetarian, I'm eating a lot of cheese and protein powder which is making me feel stuffed, not in a sated way, but in an uncomfortable way. I'm a fit enough person, and like everyone else, lockdown is taking its toll on that; however the workouts are killing my knees. I was in pain after week 1. By week 3 of cycle 1, I gave up and my weight skyrocketed so that over a 5 week period I'd gained 5kg. I've tried to reengage with the plan but my motivation to do so has dwindled. Nice enough food, enormous portions, and good workouts, but not for me

Not even slightly personalised.

Not even slightly personalised.

So you give them details about your health, weight, activity levels etc. Then you get your plan.

It's clearly not personalised. I've not done much activity over the last few years since leaving a job in the building industry. I am what I would call 'inactive'.... So why is their first workout designed to push me to breaking almost straight away? There is no consideration for inactive people.

The meals I've yet to try many of....but one things for sure. You need a lot of different things and again it's not great for those who don't want to spend £100 on food for the first week.

Anyway.... This is my very early review.... Will update with more as I go.

I took advantage of the 7-day free…

I took advantage of the 7-day free trial and signed up. Having just finished the grad plan I went for the advanced level of the mixed plan. I am on day 6 of cycle 1 and I absolutely love it!
Yes, the recipes are not all brand new but quite frankly I don't care. The recipes are actually a mix of all cycles and a lot of them are my favourite so definitely a winner for me!
I like the new CYO section although I am a bit confused with the portions for the different macros. The difference is remarkable.
The CYO section has different source of proteins so if like me you want to have a meat-free day you can easily choose a vegan/vegetarian alternative. All family friendly and delicious.
I loved the 90 day plan format, the fact you could print the pdf and scribble on the recipes or on the workouts. The app is just on screen. Well, I took a screenshot of the recipes I wanted and printed them that way. It takes you a little longer but it is not impossible!
I don't find the workouts in C1 as challenging as the grad plan, at least the first couple seemed a little too easy but you can combine them with other workouts. Joe is the only YouTube trainer who keeps saying "feel free to mix workouts up", so do it! If you like me have done the 90 day plan and grad plan you have an additional 15 (27 with the grad plan) workouts which are yours for life, so why not use those? You Tube is full of free content as well.
I am yet to try the LIVE workouts, not as easy for me at the moment but I did a couple of on-demand ones and they are great, especially the stretching ones.
The planner is fantastic, however I do it the other way round. I use the 90 day plan template, paper on the fridge for my weekly meal plan and then populate the planner on the app!
Overall I am very happy with the app. It’s easy to use, it has great recipes which you can adapt for the whole family and for what I understand once you move on to the next cycle the old recipes will stay in your library with updated quantities so you can still use them going forward. Sounds good to me!

A team that thinks all vegetarians eat is cheese!

I bought the vegetarian plan thinking that it would give me a healthy routine to follow post lockdown (I needed to lose about 3-4 kg but already very fit and healthy). I've found that the diet is full of cheese, yoghurt, protein powders and processed carbs. In fact, I'm eating less fruit and vegetables than I was prior to starting the plan! As a pretty competent and adventurous cook, I've found the diet quite boring and restrictive. I've even tried to plan my own meals from the lists of ingredients suggested but it's still extremely restrictive. It's a one size fits all, I really don't think the calories are tailored to me (eating far too much so have cut out the snacks).
Workouts 3-5 are quite good but for the amount of calories I am being told to consume, I very much doubt I am in calorie defecit. I have to agree that those who are not used to exercise would struggle with the workouts. I have been finding more and better HIIT workouts on-line for free.
I've asked for a refund on cycles two and three and am going to go back to a Mediterranean diet on the 5:2 diet, keeping up HIIT workouts as well as my martial arts. I've never purchased any sort of diet plan before and won't bother again! Huge rip off for what you actually get. If you want to lose weight fast, keep it off and stay healthy, then buy the Dr Michael Mosely's books instead ... far healthier and easy to follow.

The Joe Wicks App Works!

I do not normally write reviews but I can’t believe why there are so many bad reviews for the Joe Wicks App. The App is fabulous. It’s like having your own personal trainer in your home. Joe explains how to do the to exercises and they are in real-time so he’s knackered too when he’s doing the workout! The recipes are really delicious and easy to follow. If you are serious about getting fit and strong the app is worth the money. It does take time to see results but it really works if you stick at it.

False advertising

Clearly implies that plans are tailored to individual, yet they are not. Same plan for every body (space intended). Don't subscribe to this: watch the videos for free, do less than 5 HIIT sessions a week if new to exercise/strength training, eat a balanced diet, aim to include more cooked-from-scratch meals & buy something nice with the money you save from not subscribing to this.

Not personalised and they don’t care

I have to admit I have lost weight and feel better but there is no personal touch to this app. I accidentally entered my weight at 47kg instead of 107kg. I am 6 foot 2 but healthy. My BMI was taken, meals set and workouts sent through. After a month at my next weigh in I was 97kg. This is when I realised my error with my initial weight. I contacted Joe Wick c/s who basically said they have too many people to check the details. I pointed out that at 47kg and F602 tall they probably should have refused to train me on health reasons and advised I visited my doctor prior to starting but instead they put me on the same diet as I am now on (at 97kg) and a full work out. Surely this would be dangerous for anyone unfit enough to do this regime but joe wicks app does not have any safety measures in place. they refused to give me any money back even though I had been on the wrong diet plan for 4 weeks. Before they corrected my weight assuring me this would reset my meal portions to my correct bmi against progress I screen shot the measurements before after after. There is no difference in dietary measures. Proving this is not specific to any weight, progress or results.
At £90 you would expect more of a personal touch but they appear to take your money, set you up on the same plan as anyone else (my friends measurements are all the same) and don’t give a hoot. Yes I lost weight but without safety measures picking up abnormal stats someone could get seriously hurt.

For a healthy lifestyle

Love this app- complete game changer when it comes to thinking about diet and fitness. This app is for those who want to make a lifestyle change not just drop a few pounds as it focuses on creating sustainable, healthy habits whilst getting fit. Fabulous support group as well- can see people’s journeys and progress with the plan. Definitely recommend.

Fitness Genius - Not good recipes

I love Joe Wicks workouts. Seriously the guy is a genius! Purchased the app and well worth the money from a fitness stand point. The recipes though are awful. I’ve tried several and not liked a single one. Personally, I think Joe should stick to what he does best.
That’s the only reason I’m giving 4 stars. 5+ stars for workouts. Thanks for getting me fit Joe 👍
