We're not like other gyms... We won’t tie you into a contract or charge you a fortune every month. That’s because we believe that fitness should be accessible to everybody, regardless of shape, size, fitness level, background or attitude. We’re for everyone who’s had enough of the unbelievably-expensive-monthly-contract gym, or the make-me-feel-judged-the-moment-I-walk-through-the-door gym. Affordable, high-spec, nationwide gyms, that make absolutely everybody feel welcome. Whatever your starting point, and wherever you want to go, we can help.

not really a gym for serious resistance training. A lack of plate loaded chest machines ( for those prefering these to free bars), means that the one and only Smiths machine is over booked with all the other exercises it is used for.
Not enough cables to cope with the many clients insisting that they use two sets of cables to train biceps and triceps together or two cables for chest flys. Otherwise very clean and always air conditioned and generally pretty good car parking. The Company, instead of offering a free entry to a prize draw of £250 would be better off spending that money on more equipment.

Absolutely apalling

After switching from a gym group in my hometown to the one in Digbeth upon moving into uni has overall left a disgusting impression. Weights are thrown all over the place, you could find 26kg dumbbells sitting next to 6kg ones, cable attachments are nowhere to be seen. there are no sanitising sprays or paper towels to wipe the equipment that always have sweat stains on them, and I’m not even gonna start talking about the state of the bathrooms, rancid. That being said, none of those issues existed in the gym group in my town, the Digbeth gym needs to do better. Disgusting.

Got a email at 22:41 saying the Gym was temporarily closed and informing me to use the broad street gym. when I got there, my pin would not work. Got a email the next morning at 06:05 saying the gym was back open only to get another email at 07:41 saying the gym was closed and I should use the B-road street one. No point sending me there if my pin does not work and I can not speak to anyone at night. Waste of time

Attended Coumi’s Legs

Attended Coumi’s Legs, Bums & Tums, absolute graft but worth it, and I can honestly say it’s one of the best group fitness sessions I’ve ever joined. From the moment you walk in, Coumi creates an energetic, welcoming atmosphere that motivates you to push yourself regardless of your fitness level.

His routines are well-structured and perfectly balanced between toning, cardio, and core work. He keeps the class dynamic with a great mix of exercises that target all the right areas (yes, your legs, bums AND tums will feel it!). I particularly appreciate how he offers variations for different abilities, making sure everyone can participate and challenge themselves safely.

What really stands out about Coumi is his enthusiasm. He leads with a big smile, clear instructions, and constant encouragement that keeps the energy high even when your muscles are screaming! You leave the class feeling strong, accomplished, and already looking forward to the next session.

Highly recommend if you’re looking to tone up, boost your fitness, and train with someone who genuinely cares about your progress.

Great gym

Love the layout of the gym. The women’s only section is lovely if you want some privacy. The staff is warm and welcoming. I have enjoyed my time coming so far!

This has changed my attitude towards gyms

I've never been a gym-goer before but after a month or so with The Gym Group am such a convert!

I go super-early so have not interacted with staff, and also it's usually pretty quiet then (might be a bit less fun at busy times I suppose). But what I can say is that it's all been enormously easy. As soon as I paid I got my PIN number and could access the gym at any time. Plenty of equipment; occasionally things are out of order but they always seem to be repaired pretty quickly. There's a "ladies only" area at the gym I go to as well -- I think this is nice because although I am happy exercising in mixed-sex areas, it enables women who wear the hijab to take it off if they prefer for exercising (I can imagine that for some things that might be easier -- I notice people do this).

My only minor grumble is that they want you to do everything via the app. There are still a few of us without smartphones (I know, I know... but we have our reasons) who cannot access the app. This meant e.g. I could not book an introductory session, which I would otherwise have liked to do. It would be nice if these things were accessible via the website. Wasn't too much of an issue though as most things were self-explanatory and there are some useful videos on how to use equipment etc. on the website.

Loved the gym had been going for years…

Loved the gym had been going for years however stopped going due to the clean air zone charges. Recently I was told that you could get through to the gym without paying a charge/ going through the CAZ but I don't know how true that is?

If anyone could confirm that would be great as id love to join back :)
