Tom Ford Glasses gone to hell
I had a pair of amazing Tom Ford glasses that I wanted to update the lens to and after being told I needed to buy all new glasses, I heard about Dr Lens Change's services. After checking with them and then sending my old frames along with my lenses to them, I waited patiently. I was told that all i needed to do was send my old pair along with my prescription and they would replace my old transitional bifocal lenses and just use the old lenses as reference. When I recieved them back they were off by millimetres ie they weren't properly set up to be able to see far and near as the line was raised higher than my old lenses. This was a complete hazard and I wrote them back telling them this. This was after a few weeks of replacement and back and forth. After sending back my lenses and glasses to be redone, they insisted that i was my fault and that the lenses in the old glasses weren't correct. I've had those glasses for over 5 years and they were ordered online during covid from a US company and were perfect. When they insisted I send a photo of myself to use for measuring, they were able to correct but informed me that I needed to pay an extra 35 to reship even though it wasn't my fault! I reluctantly sent the money received my glasses and this time thankfully they were correct and weren't broken as Ive heard many others have been broken as their integrity would be lessened. All my friends told me that it was my fault that I had used an online company to replace my lenses. Never again as this experience was horrendous as was the victim shaming that the company used on me. One credit towards them is that my original frames weren't broken. Be warned.

So I ended up selling the lens with them, he posted the lens on eBay and ‘Twice’ the same person bought it and sent it back after 30days - effectively having it to use capturing motor sport (free hire)
*When I could speak to him, I had a patience of a saint.
have some patience, it is worth
i had some difficulties in contacting the seller, as it turned out, he was in hospital for a while. finally, i received a moded lens as ordered.
Great services
I've had a couple of Canon FD lenses converted to an EF mount and every time the lens has come back amazing
Repair to a Canon Lens not supported any more by Canon
I have seen many mixed reviews about the lens Doctor, this my review.
My lens is a Canon 500mm f4, I sent to the Lens Doctor for repair with a focusing issue. The lens repair quotation could of been quicker, but I accepted it and asked him to start work, I was not in any hurry for the repair but it could have been quicker, replies to my email could have been quicker also. That’s the negative side of the Lens Doctor, the other side to this repair is that Canon couldn’t and wouldn’t repair it, also their approved repair centres could not repair it as Canon would no longer supply parts. This left me with a problem as Canon’s, recommendation was to buy a new one.
The Lens Doctor was able to fix my lens and my photos are now pin sharp, just photographed birds in flight no problem. What a result!
As I said at the start, this my review. I am very happy with the repair, the Lens Doctor fixed it when others including Canon couldn’t.
I will use the Lens Doctor again in the future.
BEWARE
BEWARE: Following yet a number of further email exchanges with Mr Houston he has refused to return my lens to me.
While the above was accurate at the time and is certainly not slanderous it is true that Mr Houston finally posted my lens back to me.

Beautiful Canon FD conversions
The Lens Doctor has serviced three vintage Canon FD lenses for me. They were declicked and converted to EF mount for filmmaking purposes. The new lens mount is solidly made from what seems a single block of aluminium. It feels incredibly well made. It's just not budging!
I'm already putting the lenses to good use and I have no doubt that they'll hold up well even though filmmaking is known to take its toll on the mechanics with the constant changing of lenses, adjusting the aperture etc.
I had a rather lovely experience with The Lens Doctor. I believe the service time was around 4-5 weeks from when I shipped the lenses from Denmark to when they arrived safe back home. I checked in occasionally and Eddie always kindly replied to my emails. Even though it must have seemed like spam at the end. I guess I was just excited about putting the babies to use. Sorry!
Looking at The Lens Doctor's Trustpilot page, I'm surprised to find some rather negative reviews. It's not for me to say whether the reviews are truthful or not but I just don't believe the experiences that people describe.
From purchasing the conversion on the website to receiving the serviced lenses a month later, I had zero issues with The Lens Doctor. And after a few weeks of use, the lenses are working great.
I urge you not to trust the naysayers on here. Give the Lens Doctor a shot, especially if you live in Europe and like me have a set of FD's that you wanna use for filmmaking or simply on a modern EF body. I don't regret doing it!
I have learnt to read reviews before sending my gear in the hard way! I'll neve make the same mistake.
I have sent my Canon 50mm F1.2L for dust cleaning. I could not belive when I received it back. The lens came full of dust. I contacted Eddie (everyone can make a mistake, right?).
I have been advised to send it back. After few weeks my 50mm is with me. I am starting to check everything and gues what? Lens not only have plenty of dust (no Sir I have not used torch). On the rear element I have found a smudge. I can't get rid of it because it is inside. I was shocked when I saw something which looks like a fabric thread/hair inside. But that's not the worst. The worst part is that front element on the outside is damaged with sharp object. Spot and straight line. Eddie was trying to tell me it was caused by anti fungal agent, but no it is not. The fungus found by the lens doctor was on the second element as stated in his report.
I have received full refund but that's not enough. My lens has been damaged. It is full of dust, with a smudge and hair inside. I have to find a professional and pay him clean all this stuff.
I am in the proces of taking legal action against The Lens Doctor.
Damage caused to expensive vintage lens
My Canon FD L series lenses were sent to Eddie back in 2018 for de clicking and servicing. After using the lenses, I realised that a couple of them no longer focused to infinity and had a lot of dust inside that wasn't there when I sent them off. One of them also had a lot of oil over the aperture blades. Eddie and I spoke briefly via e mail and he asked me to send them back - as a result of a busy schedule, and also not being sure whether I wanted to send them back after the first time, the lenses have sat in a box in my office for the last couple of years.
Having seen how much one particular lens had increased in value over the last couple of years, I recently sent them off elsewhere for a service as I planned on selling them and wanted to make sure they were in great condition. The technician who was going to service the lenses said that he was unwilling to service one of them, as there had been a lot of tampering with the inside of the lens. The lens was only opened when de clicked by the lens doctor, and has barely been used since, so this is 100% when the damage happened.

Good reliable service
My Lumix camera developed a grey smudge in the centre of the field. Careful external cleaning confirmed that it was deep in the optics of the camera and I debated just scrapping it. I found The Lens Doctor on the internet and decided to get a quotation for cleaning. A DIY job was beyond me after investigation.
Eddie gave a quotation which was much less than replacement so I decided to try him.
I now have my camera back and the smudge has gone and the camera works perfectly.
He is not the quickest operator but I would happily use him again if I needed.
Great service that sigma said was impossible
I had a Sigma 50-500 that Sigma said was too old to repair. Lens doctor has repaired it and returned it to me. Yes communication was a little delayed during lockdown but the job has been completed as agreed and returned within two days of being paid for. I can only speak from personal experience but I am a very happy customer
Canon FD's Cinemodded.
I have sent my 6 canon FD's lenses to The Lens Doctor in order to have them cinemodded. Eddie took great care of the lens knowing some of them had stiffed focus rings. The results are incredible. All the lenses have now a smooth and easy focus ring, declicked aperture, great EF mounts and are very clean. The lenses came back verywell packed as well.
Knowing that this was done during the lockout, Eddie was in its own and made his best to return my lenses in time. Will do business again with The Lens Doctor ! Thanks Eddie.
Highly recommended
I have to say, reading the reviews from other customers I'm surprised. My experience of Eddie and the service he provides has so far been great. He sourced the Canon FD lenses I needed sourcing in a timely fashion, he converted them quickly and did the job really well, postage was fast, one lens he couldn't source immediately so he sent me a temporary lens that I could limp through a few shoots with whilst I waited for my main lens to arrive - and when I had an issue with one of my lenses he asked for it be immediately returned, fixed the issue - which wasn't Eddie's fault - and had it sent back to me within a day or two all free of charge. I've used a few lens repair companies in the past - some are great - some you send a lens and it dissappears for months and months on end. In all honesty, I've had a great service so far and will definitely be using Eddie again. Highly recommended, knows his stuff.
Doesn't reply to emails. Avoid.
£900 for a lens repair on a 400mm Canon which performs exactly how it did before the repair and is basically unusable. I shoot sports so it has to work or else I miss the action and it happens on too many occasions.
Many many emails sent to Eddie trying to arrange to get the lens back in to get looked at again at first he replied now no response but he did ask me to write a trustpilot review when I paid for the repair so I am doing it now. Other photographers have recommended I use Eddie for repairs but I don't seem to have had a service that they got. Also tried to claim my money back via paypal but they found in his favour so unless you want to be out £££ then I wouldn't bother

I bought a lens on E-bay which when it arrived had sticky aperture blades and apart from some dust appeared to be in very good condition with smooth focussing and no apparent play .I decided to keep it and have it serviced by The Lens Doctor [Eddie Houston] on the basis of he appeared to be a specialist in older Canon lenses. The quote stated removal on all lenses and cleaning as well as rectifying the sticky aperture blades
As the tracking was not working I had to e-mail to confirm delivery and was told there was further problem with "barrel backlash of 1/2 mm, a common problem on these lenses and a big problem on a macro lens" which would cost a further £89 to repair which I accepted thinking "in for a penny in for a pound”
Approximately 5 weeks later having heard nothing I e-mailed Eddie and was told they were very busy and lens would be in workshop Tuesday of the next week [approx 6 weeks since lens sent in]
Three weeks later having not heard anything I e-mailed again and was told "working on it just now and will invoice later that day"!
Just under 2 weeks later I had to e-mail again since now 1 month in workshop and I received an invoice saying the main bearings ? ? had been replaced free of charge as compensation for the delay, total time 12 weeks five days, somewhat longer than the 2 week example for more work described on the website and it appears to have about the same amount of dust as before it was serviced and cleaned! At least I got my lens back and the aperture blades are not sticking although I am unable to comment on the other work I paid to have carried out
.It's your choice!

Conversion was well worth it.
Very pleased with the work carried out on my Canon FD 24mm 1.4 L lens, that was de-clicked and converted to EF mount. Thanks
Don't bother - Avoid like the plague
-------UPDATE TO BELOW POST--------
I finally did receive my lenses from the lens Doctor. Only after getting PayPal to threaten to return the money I paid him. They came back in an awful unacceptable condition. See this youtube video of me looking at them for the first time. Just look up "Lens doctor review" on youtube to find it as I can't put links in this review. I asked PayPal not to pay him as he had clearly scammed me. But the only evidence they look at is whether or not the items were shipped and delivered, so the condition didn't matter. They don't guarantee quality. So I lost this one. The Lens Doctor is full of excuses and claims that he cant make a purse out of a sow's ear. But the lenses I gave him were almost perfect, to begin with. I just wanted to make sure they were top notch. And now they're covered with glue, dust, fingerprints and cleaning streaks inside the lenses, and weird lumps under the grips which I have discovered is a sloppy mess of tape and glue.
Don't get taken as I did. Avoid this guy and spread the word. If he used to be good, that time is over...
---------ORIGIONAL POST---------
I went to The Lens Doctor because he claimed to be the only factory-trained Tamron Adaptall technician in Europe. I Saw the endorsement from Philip Bloom etc. and figured he's probably reputable. I sent him four of my lenses for refurbishment. An indulgent expense on my part, but I was willing to pay the price for the piece of mind of knowing my lenses were performing to the best of their ability.
Here's the score.
-110 emails trying to get him to finish and return my lenses.
-Over $2000 paid to The lens doctor.
-Excuse after excuse for not getting the work done.
-It's been over eight months.
-All communication has stopped and I can't reach him.
I have probably lost my lenses to a seemingly incompetent operator or possibly a nefarious cheat. But who knows, maybe He'll come through after all this time.
I would not recommend any of the services from the lens doctor unless you like a hassle.

Shocking customer service. Calls and Mails ignored
I've used Eddie in the past for lens servicing without issue, however, my camera fell from a highly polished table, which lead to my 28-70 f2.8 L be broken in half. I seng this to Eddie mid Nov 2018. He said he could repair it. Great, however, Its still not ready and Eddie isnt returning my calls or emails. I rented a replacement one initially but because of the lack of contact and not returning my calls ir mails, I've had to buy a new one.
I'm very disappointed with the customer service and still want to know what's going on with my lens

I wish all companies were this customer focussed.
Bought a refurbished Canon EF 400 F/2.8 USM MkII from Eddie. The lens is in fantastic condition after Eddie's attention. Eddie's communication is excellent and customer service could not be better.

Very impressed with the refurbished EF mount converted lens that I ordered (Canon FD 300mm F4 L). As a bonus, the lens came in its original box which I didn't expect. Thanks again, Eddie.
