Thank you to Sermet

I approached The Profs for help with my degree modules and the tutor that was chosen for me was Dr Sermet. Dr Sermet is a great teacher and helped me a lot through my exams as well as re-explaining things multiple times until I understood it. He had a lot of patience and was also lovely to work with, thanks to Dr Sermet I’m now graduating from university :). Thank you for everything Sermet and The Profs !!

The experience with our maths tutor with The Profs has been very good. My child has improved in knowledge and confident to affront her Alevels exams.

Bola helped me greatly in achieving 94% in my financial reporting exam at university. He's very knowledgeable and I feel like I can ask him many questions, and that they are all answered really clearly, and he helped me to understand tricky content and practice past paper questions. I am now working towards my corporate finance exam with him!

The Profs is a good website connecting students and potential tutors with each other. There are not a large number of A-level Economics tutors available but Shyrose has considerably helped our son and we can see that long term he will benefit from on-going lessons with her. She has been additionally very accommodating with some last minute lesson rescheduling that we have had to do.

Christos is a very patient, understanding and a practical tutor. Very driven.

I contacted Don for help with an Econometrics module that I was struggling with. He explained things clearly and intuitively and helped me achieve my desired grade. I’d highly recommend Don!

I am a recent Masters graduate and I requested help from The Profs on my dissertation. The tutor that I was assigned, Sean, is clearly very knowledgeable, but that did not necessarily translate into a good tutor-tutee relationship, for the following reasons.

My research was focused on Latin America from 1960 to 2020. It required the use of very niche data, such as “pension fund assets as % of GDP” and “percentage of students enrolled in private institutions”. I spent more than a month searching for the data, and mentioned to Sean numerous times that not every variable had complete data for the entire period under consideration. He kept pushing me to find data even when it wasn’t there, without providing many additional sources that I could use to find it, and he was also questioning the data that I did manage to find. 19 days before the deadline, he suggested making a global database of 175 countries with data for at least 8 variables over a 50-year period, which would have taken weeks to set up — time that I did not have. In our next session after the Christmas break he said that I should abandon the idea of getting a good grade, because I was only going to pass. Following that demoralising conversation, I decided to stop working with him and continued the dissertation by myself. In April I found out that I achieved a 70 (Distinction) without his help.

In addition to the issues stated above, in mid-December I had asked him for feedback on the literature review and he mistakenly provided feedback on another document. Although he had a quick look at the correct document to check whether his comments still applied, he did not apologise for his mistake, and I ended up paying £195 for feedback that wasn’t as useful as I had hoped.

My decision to get in touch with The Profs and arrange tutoring through this company did not come easily. I am a full-time student working part-time at close to minimum wage. Sean’s hourly fee is equivalent to my pay for 7 hours of work, so it was vital for me to have an efficient, empathetic, reliable tutor who would provide actionable feedback. Unfortunately Sean did not meet those expectations. Although this is just one person’s opinion on this matter, I hope that this feedback will be used to improve services for other students.

The Profs has been an incredibly useful website for my A-Level biology and chemistry preparation, allowing me to find skilled tutors for both subjects to help me. My biology tutor, Dr Siân Fôch-Gatrell helped push me to my target grades with a careful and considerate approach with the tutoring - working most on what she found me to be weak at. My chemistry tutor, Adam Al-janabi, was similarly very helpful with a very adaptable style and able to teach anything with his really perfect content knowledge that he knew like the back of his hand.

I’ve had a very positive experience using The Profs—the platform made it easy to find academic support when I needed it. I was especially fortunate to be matched with Joanne, who has been an incredible tutor throughout the year. Her guidance has been invaluable, especially during moments when I felt stuck. Joanne consistently provided clear explanations and thoughtful feedback, that helped me improve both my understanding and academic performance. She was always approachable, encouraging, and genuinely invested in my progress. I am very grateful for her support and would highly recommend her as a tutor.

Dr. Joshua Bannister helped me with fluid mechanics and explained concepts intuitively. he also helped me with understanding how exams are structured and what examiners are looking for in solutions. this helped me with my exam technique. he is also lots of help explaining how masters degrees work and the best possible way to do the applications.
