A True Home Away from Home

A True Home Away from Home

I stay at The Winchfield regularly for work, and I genuinely couldn’t ask for a better place. From the moment I first walked in, Lyn and the team made me feel completely at home. They always put me in the same room, which might seem like a small thing—but to me, it means a lot. It’s thoughtful touches like that which make all the difference.

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the rooms are always clean and comfortable, and the food and drink downstairs are spot-on. It’s got that rare mix of local charm and personal service that makes you feel like more than just a guest.

Thanks to Lyn and everyone at The Winchfield for making each stay so easy and enjoyable. It’s more than just a place to stay—it’s a little home away from home.

Poor experience

I visited the Winchfield Inn at the beginning of August as a last minute choice as we were attending a wedding in the area. We needed 1 twin room and one double room. However, we were informed they didn’t offer twin rooms. My son and daughter agreed to sleep on the same bed as we were out in a rural area and didn’t have much choice of getting any other accommodation at that time of night.
My room was lovely. The bed was comfortable and the decor of the room was nice.
My children were put in a room that had no windows and had to share a single bed. (Might I add my both children are over 20 years old).
The same night we booked in, we were starving and there was no food available at the inn. So we asked if we could order in food and we were told it was okay. But no eating in bedrooms was allowed. Which we agreed to.
After 10pm, the food finally arrived and we went to Lyn to ask her where we could sit and if we could get some cutlery. She provided us with the cutlery and showed us to the breakfast area where we could sit.
While we were eating, the owner came over to us and stood staring at us very intently and his face was filled with anger which made us very uncomfortable. He just stood there.
Then Lyn came over and went to him. We could hear Lyn and her husband (the owner), arguing.
Lyn then came over and said, her husband wasn’t happy that we were eating at the table as we are not supposed to eat inside. She further went on to say, that she took the hit for us and her shoulders were broad enough to take it.
I felt awful and very sad. We didn’t finish eating, we packed up the food and went to bed.
The rest of our stay (2 days), was uncomfortable and left us feeling very anxious.
Lyn was a darling. That is the only reason for 2 stars!

Outstanding country Inn

Stayed at The Winchfield Inn for a long weekend. Room was very comfortable and clean. Staff were extremely helpful and polite. The garden was lovely, and the food exquisite, especially their Sunday Roast.
