Another perfect experience

Having had a very positive first experience with Totally Spain in March 2025, we did not hesitate to use Belen and her team when planning a return visit to Spain in March 2026. This time we requested a fully customized journey, 30 days in length, that covered much of the length and breadth of Spain. Working with us, Belen flushed out our ideas and provided suggestions that include additional regions and experiences. Local arrangements including hotels, trains, and private transport were exceptional. Our private tour guides were all very professional, knowledgeable, and informative. Documentation, including a complete itinerary, contact details, local maps, food and entertainment suggestions, and lists of museums and galleries was comprehensive and extremely useful.

We just returned home and are already musing about a third trip guided by Belen and her team.

Dear Ann,

Thank you so much for your wonderfully thoughtful review. It was an absolute pleasure working with you and Doug once again, and I’m so pleased to hear that your second experience with us lived up to expectations.

I particularly enjoyed helping shape this more extensive and deeply personal itinerary with you both. Your curiosity about Spain’s lesser-visited regions, combined with your enthusiasm for history, food, and culture, made the planning process especially rewarding. I’m delighted that the local arrangements, guides, and travel documentation all contributed to a smooth and enriching experience across such a wide-ranging route.

Thirty days travelling through Spain is no small undertaking, so it means a great deal to know that everything felt seamless and thoughtfully coordinated along the way.

Thank you again for placing your trust in me and the team for a second time. We would be absolutely delighted to help you plan a third Spanish adventure whenever the mood strikes.

Warmest regards,

Belén

Beginning in Extremadura, with stays in elegant paradores in Plasencia and Cáceres, the journey traced Roman, Moorish, and medieval heritage through Mérida, Trujillo, and Zafra before continuing south to Andalucía. Highlights included a flamenco evening and market cooking class in Sevilla, a night visit to Córdoba’s Mosque-Cathedral, olive oil tasting in the hills around Ronda, and leisurely days along the Mediterranean in Málaga and Valencia. I wish I could give more than 5 stars!

I wish I could give more than 5 stars!
Totally Spain made all the arrangements for our 18-day trip to Spain. They developed an interesting itinerary and made all the hotel, rental car and train reservations. Most importantly, they provided excellent guides in most of the cities we visited. Everything was well-thought out and the logistics were perfect. They also provided background information and maps on each of our stops, which was very useful. Our contact, Ken Baldwin, was always available and a pleasure to work with. This is our second trip with Totally Spain and we hope to do more--they make travel to Spain so easy!

Two personalized trips with Totally Spain

We have enjoyedtwo trips with Belén at Totally Spain - the first to Madrid, Barcelona and Andalucia; the second to Barcelona and Portugal. Belén really listened and took a lot of time, care and communication to personalize our trips. Both were 18 or more days, with private drivers and guides and the occasional, high-quality, group experience. Our relationship with Belén always feels as much a personal one as a professional one. I'm always impressed by the way she answers our questions mid-trip: quickly, honestly, and with valuable information beyond the specific question.

Thank you for your kind review and I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.

It’s been a pleasure working with you on both trips, and I’m glad to hear the planning, guides, and support along the way have made a difference. The fact that you’ve come back to us for a second long itinerary says a great deal, and it means a lot.

Looking forward to helping with the next chapter whenever you're ready for Spain and/ or Portugal again.

Warm regards,

Trip Summary:

Joel’s second tailor-made journey with Totally Spain was a rich 18-day cultural and culinary exploration of Portugal, beginning with four nights in vibrant Barcelona before flying to Porto and diving into the heart of Portugal’s traditions and landscapes.

In Porto, private walking and panoramic tours unveiled the city's historic charm, complemented by a Fado show and a full-day excursion through the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley—with a boat ride, quinta visit, wine tasting, and traditional lunch. From there, Joel and his travel companion explored Viseu, Santar’s Vila Jardim gardens and winery, and coastal towns like Aveiro and Costa Nova, all with private transfers and well-paced free time.

The journey continued south with visits to medieval Belmonte and Trancoso before a two-night stay in the walled town of Óbidos, followed by private guided day trips to Tomar’s Convent of Christ and the historic synagogue.

The final four nights were spent in Lisbon, where a mix of guided panoramic tours and gastronomic walking experiences brought the capital to life. Day trips to Sintra, Cascais, and Évora completed the itinerary—with all logistics and entrance tickets seamlessly arranged.

A beautifully layered trip through Portugal, combining regional depth, seamless planning, and a thoughtful balance of independence and expert guidance.

Over a period now of nearly 20 years

Over a period now of nearly 20 years, we have used Totally Spain more than half a dozen times. This, in itself, should speak to the phenomenal level of service provided. Ken and his team have spent countless hours planning our trips, assuring every detail was perfect, and following through time and time again. We just completed another month long itinerary with Totally Spain and the service level and attention to detail were flawless. It's the little things that matter and they have a mind-boggling attention to details.

We will continue to use Totally Spain for our travels to the Iberian Peninsula and would enthusiastically recommend them without hesitation.

Thank you very much for your review—and for your continued trust in us over the past two decades. I only just saw your review today, and wanted to say how much I appreciate your kind words.

It's always a pleasure to work with you and Rommy, and I’m glad to hear this latest trip came together as planned. We know how important the finer details are, and it’s rewarding to know they’re noticed and appreciated.

Looking forward to helping with the next one, whenever that may be.

Best regards,

Trip Summary:
Jeremy's itinerary was a focused and scenic journey through Cantabria and the Basque Country, designed as a relaxing counterpoint to their earlier travels along the northern Camino de Santiago. The trip blended charming countryside stays with short cross-border excursions into southern France, all while maintaining a comfortable and unhurried pace.

Following their Camino walk, they left Llanes and continued to Cosgaya, nestled in the Cantabria Picos de Europa. Their time here included a memorable ride on the Fuente Dé cable car, with spectacular views over the mountain peaks. From there, they continued to the Puente Viesgo area and an exclusive boutique Palace hotel, enjoying one of the Cantabrian region’s finest countryside retreats.

Private drivers and pre-arranged transfers made for smooth logistics throughout, including day trips to Bayonne and St. Jean de Luz in the French Basque Country, and thoughtful planning around car rental and return in Torrelavega and Bilbao. Carefully selected hotels, scenic drives, and support throughout ensured the experience was relaxed yet enriching.

Beginning in Madrid, she travelled north to León and the ancestral villages of Villalba de la Loma and Mayorga, before spending time with family in Gijón. The itinerary continued to the historic streets of Salamanca, with a stay in a converted palace hotel, before heading to Torrevieja for time at leisure.

The final days were spent in vibrant Barcelona, where Melissa explored Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia and Parc Güell, with pre-booked entries to avoid queues, and enjoyed a private guided tour bringing the city’s modernist landmarks to life. With every transfer, ticket, and hotel carefully chosen and timed, the trip unfolded with ease, allowing for space to reflect and connect. Unforgettable custom tour of Portugal

I recently returned from an unforgettable 2-week tour of central and northern Portugal that June of Totally Spain custom designed for me based on my love of history, art, local culture, and gastronomy. The hotels, cultural experiences, private transportation services, and private tours were all excellent, which did not surprise me because the previous year Belen had put together an incredible custom tour of Andalusia for me. The level of care, attention to detail, and personalized service the Totally Spain team has provided me are exceptional and I wholeheartedly would recommend them to anyone.

Second time in Barcelona

This was our second time using Ken Baldwin from Totally Spain. Last September he arranged our tour from Lisbon to Porto, Madrid and Barcelona. My wife loved Barcelona so much that we decided to return for five days and then take a cruise on the Mediterranean Sea. We spent 3 nights in Barcelona and 2 nights in Sitges. Every private car transfer and tour was prompt, and the Hotels were wonderful. His arrangements result in a stress free and enjoyable vacation. My experience is you get what you pay for, and Totally Spain provides excellent value.

Totally Spain…

Belen put together an absolute ***-kickin' trip for us particularly in light of the short notice that we gave her. That is, spouse Irene and I discovered that we were suddenly committed in late February to meeting family in Palma, then Barcelona in only 26 days. Tours, language, and attractions were covered while in both those towns, but we needed someone to react fast to extend our trip alone from Barcelona to Madrid, to Seville, to Lisbon, to Fatima, and finally home to Michigan. By the way, considering the timeliness of this trip, a group tour was out of the question......but we're not real excited about the confinement of group tours anyway, maybe not that social, and prefer flexibility. In fact, we've never been on a group tour, not a private one either, for that matter....until now.

Imagine our apprehension as non-Spanish speakers in the wake of a recent trip to Bogota, Colombia where literally nobody spoke English (exaggerating here, but almost true) and our Spanish-fluent son was our only lifeline. Language-wise we were shell-shocked from that trip and wondering if we could really trust the axiom..."Well you can get by in Europe. Plenty of people know English." Then top that with the stress of picking the right attractions to visit, train transport, transfers to hotels...and, by the way, which hotels should we book? Totally Spain came to our rescue.

Yes. the other reviews are indeed true. The drivers were prompt and very courteous, picking us up and attentively guiding us to wherever we needed to be. The hotels were excellent with friendly personnel and great amenities without extravagance. The daily tour guides were delightful and instructive. It was very obvious to us that Belen knows the cities, the people, and the accommodations providing the best bang for your buck (uh, Euro, that is). We really loved the itinerary she put together for us.

Most importantly:
1. We worked with a few other travel agencies and found them somewhat unresponsive and sometimes difficult to reach. Belen, on the other hand, stayed right with us.....and bugged me to get movin' and decidin' else our window would close for reservations, etc. Whenever, I called she was there. Imagine a warm body to speak with ALWAYS. Whenever I e-mailed she was there. Thanks much for your tenacity, Belen!

2. Our private day trip from Lisbon to Fatima and back was very memorable. The travel provider (Amiroad) was top-notch and the driver was a kind and considerate man. He allowed us to walk and reflect privately as desired. Even bought us a gift that he knew would touch me personally.

3. Finally, the price was right.......very competitive. If you're looking for a private tour package, this is the place. Considering all the above, when it comes to Spain and Portugal, I would highly recommend you refrain from spending time with anyone else but Totally Spain. 5-star review all the way.

Wow—thank you ever so much for your incredible review! I truly appreciate the time you took to share your experience in such detail—and I’m especially touched by your kind words about my responsiveness and persistence (yes, sometimes a little push is needed when we’re racing against the clock!).

It was an absolute pleasure to design this trip with you, and I’m so pleased that it hit the mark, especially as your first experience with a private itinerary. I know how important flexibility, clarity, and peace of mind were for you both, and it means a lot to know that the logistics, guides, drivers, and hotels all supported that sense of ease and enjoyment.

I’m especially glad that your private day to Fátima was so meaningful. That personal touch from the driver says everything about the type of people we choose to work with—and I’ll be sure to pass on your thanks to him.

Should Spain or Portugal call again (and I hope they do!), I’d be delighted to assist you both in planning the next chapter of your travels.

Fantastic Spain Tour

My wife and I just returned from our fabulous trip to Spain, which was arranged and coordinated by Ken and Olaia at Totally Spain.

Our Spain tour included Madrid, Toledo, Sevilla, Cordoba, Barcelona, and Montserrat. Included were city tours in each location, as well as nighttime tapas tours in Madrid and Barcelona. We also had both a cooking class and Flamenco show in Seville. The excursion to Montserrat included a visit to a winery where tapas and wines were served. Totally Spain also included tickets to additional sites, like the Prado museum in Madrid, that we could visit at our leisure.

Absolutely everything about our Spain tour was fantastic, including the various city and tapas tours, excursions, sites, cathedrals, museums, activities, food and wine, hotels, transfers, and trains. All of the arrangements were perfect.

We really enjoyed getting to know the various tour guides, including Esther and Teo (Walk and Eat) in Madrid, Carmen in Toledo, Adriana in Sevilla, David in Cordoba, Conchi and Lorea (The Barcelona Taste) in Barcelona, and Mayi in Montserrat. The drivers were also wonderful, especially Paul and Luis in Madrid, Marco in Sevilla, and David in Barcelona. Everyone was so nice and really made an extra effort in our behalf. Just to mention that the cooking class in Sevilla was a lot of fun and the Flamenco show was incredible.

Thank you Totally Spain for an amazing life-time experience.

Highly recommended

This is our second trip with Totally Spain and we have really enjoyed both of them. The latest was to the beautiful city of Cadiz and surrounding area. Ken Baldwin is really responsive, had great suggestions for our trip and had all of our transportation arranged in advance. The information packet we received had lots of interesting information, contact numbers for drivers that had already been arranged and suggestions for restaurants that we enjoyed. Drivers were all very polite and professional. The tours were small groups and with great guides. I would highly recommend them if you want a smooth, enjoyable and interesting experience.

Effortless and memorable with zero wasted time

Just returned from another great vacation curated by the excellent people at Totally Spain. This time, in addition to arriving and leaving from one of our favorite cities, Madrid, we drove to and explored Salamanca, Porto, Santiago de Compostela and Bilbao.
I continue to use TS for my travel to Spain and Portugal because their expertise and customer service is unparalleled. I always start with an idea of where we want to visit, how much time we have, and what we're hoping to experience, and I always get an itinerary that excites me and works beautifully: 5-star hotels that are unique, historic and authentic to the area, tour guides that treat us like family and match our level of interest in history and art, bike tours, food tours, seamless transfer and pickups, advance museum tickets and train bookings and great suggestions to broaden our experience. They're always available to talk restaurants and have even helped with reservations.
We end up with a vacation that is effortless and memorable with zero wasted time or headaches. I wish I had this level of service when I visit other parts of the world.

I did research on travel agencies for…

I did research on travel agencies for my trip to Spain and was impressed with the reviews and that they were based in the country I was traveling to. I filled out their questionnaire and reached out to them via email. I requested a quick phone call to get a feel for personalities and what I like when I travel. I was told that they want just email. They were very busy with fall travels and their own holiday. I was dismissed basically. I figured they would get back to me after their holiday, but I never heard back. What happened to the email communications? I figured if this is how they do business, I wouldn't be happy. I booked with another company and just completed a fabulous vacation.

With regards to your review, I’m lost for words. Your account of your experience with myself is not accurate. I still have our correspondence and this is what happened.
• You sent us a Trip request on Wednesday 09 Aug 2023 for a possible Spain and Portugal trip commencing 8 months later, in April 2024.
• I replied on 11 Aug, asking you a series of questions while also providing ideas for your trip. I also provided in that email links to a whole variety of pages on our website and our blog with information on Spain and in Portugal, so that you could review, and hopefully start to get a better idea of where you would like to go.
• You responded on 14 Aug providing very brief answers. Our trips are all custom made and they take time to prepare and cost, so clarity from clients on where they wish to go, when they wish travel and where they wish to stay is important. Your email did not provide that.
• Being August and high season, I was only able to respond to your email on 24 Aug. We were very busy and had to give priority to those clients traveling in 2023. Your proposed trip was still 8 months away.
• In my email I apologized for the delay in writing. I also advised that I was going on vacation soon and was trying to finalize things before going. I like to be upfront with clients. I then proceeded to provide details for your trip, a link to a suggested Spain and Portugal itinerary on our website that I felt could be tweaked to fit your needs and I provided a commentary of how I thought the itinerary would best work for you. I finished the email saying:
“If you are happy with this itinerary I need you to have a look at flights and give me final (or tentative) flight details.
Arrival & Departure dates, times and airports.
Only that way we can price this trip for you

Let me know if you have any questions.

I am afraid this week is a bit crazy and I don´t have time to talk on the phone.
In any case, we prefer to communicate by Email so we keep track of everything and you receive the information in writing and can share it with the person travelling with you.”

• You responded the next day, not with any feedback but simply saying:

“Belen, have a wonderful vacation! Let's touch base when you return. We don't want to go to Barcelona as we have been there before.”

• That is the last I heard from you. You never sent me the information I asked for. You provided no comment or feedback on my suggestions. And you never “touched base” with me ever again.
• I returned from vacation in early September to a full inbox. It’s true that I did not follow-up with you but I had specifically asked you to revert to me with your flight details or tentative flight details. I had also expected feedback on the proposed itinerary. That information was never sent, despite me having provided you with ample information, suggestions and reading material to enable you to provide me a more concrete idea of the trip you wanted.
• We receive hundreds of custom trip requests annually and we communicate with many enquirers. A huge number don’t follow through with their trip. That’s part and parcel of this business. Clues that a client is not genuinely interested in our service include when they don’t get back to you or when they don’t fully engage in the planning process.
I regret that you didn’t get back to me. I also firmly believe, and our correspondence bears this out, that you were to do so, but you didn’t.
Posting this review 9 months later has left me flabbergasted. It wasn’t warranted and I feel it is not a true account of your experience with me.
I provided you with very useful and relevant information for your trip. I provided you with suggested itineraries. I gave you my ideas and I gave you my time. It cost you absolutely nothing.
What did it earn me? A very undeserved and unfair 1 star review. These are for the lowest of the low and I assure you, I and my nearly 25 year old family business are certainly not that. Sincerely, Belen

No Doubts

Even though we are just now getting ready to use the service of Totally Spain for our next trip, I feel confident in doing so. I have read some excellent reviews and feel comfortable I have chosen the correct travel company. Our last trip to Spain was done thru an American base company and it was excellent;however, we wanted to go more on our own to explore the beauty of Spain. After researching several travel sites that are Spain based, we choose Totally Spain.

Sincerely,
Steve Skeen

Experiences/Reviews/Comments on Totally Spain Travel Agency

13 Sep 2019,



I regret to say that I found the service provided by Totally Spain as poor and much more significantly far too expensive. We wanted hotel recommendations for a 20 day motoring trip beginning in Madrid across the major centres in Northern Spain ending in Bilbao including the cost of a car rental for 2 persons. A global sum was in due course provided . We independently cross checked the cost of rooms and car hire and it was clear to us the cost was about 40% over what we would have paid ourselves either directly with the hotels or via the usual hotel websites. Admittedly we were offered a few extras by Totally Spain such as airport pickup, a walking tour and train tickets to Toledo plus 2 winery visits but these extras in no way justified the total sum quoted. Since then we instructed a UK based travel agent based outside London principally dealing with airline bookings and as a result of that agency's efforts we have been provided with a quotation at about 50% of the global sum quoted by Totally Spain for virtually exactly the same hotel categories plus a suitable rented vehicle.

I am bound to add that once I objected to the high quotation the lady in charge of the booking whose name is Olaia totally refused to reconsider the quotation . On one occasion after I had sent her some initial amendments to our programme I sensed a certain annoyance in her voice and response which is something I do not want to hear from an agent supposedly acting on my behalf. I would caution anyone before engaging this agency if only because its policy of refusing to break down a quotation speaks volumes for its consideration of its clients' interests. Margins may be tight in the travel game but not at the cost of a substantial overcharging.

This review hurts and has us shaking our heads in disbelief. We don't understand it and we are even wondering is it at all possible that this maybe was a set-up by someone who never intended to travel with us but whose real goal was to post a negative review. We understand from an email you sent to us afterwatrds that this review was deliberately posted across multiple websites and you didn't even travel with us.

None of it makes sense to us. Not the inaccurate content and not the abrupt way "Mr. Marks" suddenly dropped direct communication with us about his custom trip, that we believed he was just about to book with us, to take to Trustpilot to post this harsh and less than truthful review.

We gave him no reason to do so. If it is true that he has booked a different custom trip that costs less with another company then that's fine. Everyone is entitled to shop around but not to post harsh and untrue reviews about companies whose service they haven't fully experienced.

Let me first highlight the inaccuracies in his summation of his experience with Totally Spain and the custom proposal we offered him (or at least the person who communicated with us ).

Firstly he had 5 top winery visits included in his quote from Totally Spain NOT 2 as stated above. 3 were in Ribera del Duero - Protos, Aalta and Pesquera and 2 were in Rioja - Fabulista and Baigorri. He also omitted to mention that he had a multi-course, wine pairing lunch for two included at Baigorri winery.

Secondly, it is not true that he had `a walking tour´ included. He had 2 PRIVATE WALKING TOURS included. One in Madrid with prebooked tickets to the Royal Palace and one in Salamanca. Both tours private and with expert local guides.

Thirdly, it is not true that he "objected to the high quotation" or that we "refused to reconsider the quotation". His entire communication with Olaia was amicable and expressed genuine content for the trip she had proposed to him. Right up to his last email when he asked her for advice on how to save a small amount of money off the overall trip price which Olaia advised him he could do with just a minor alteration to his car rental. We were never asked to reconsider the quotation nor were we advised about a supposed other quote from an un-named "UK travel agent" that was 50% less expensive. This we only learned from this review.

Fourthly, it is wholly inaccurate to compare different quotes from different travel companies where the hotels used in each are different. Hotel standards and rates vary wildly in Spain and Totally Spain only works with handpicked, quality, centrally located hotels of a high standard though a client is free to suggest other properties if they wish.

Data protection prevents me from publishing the correspondence between Olaia (a Spanish native) and "Mr Marks" though anyone reading it could only take from it that he was dealt with efficiently, professionally, promptly and that he seemed genuinely satisfied. No cost was incurred by him for the many hours of work done on his behalf as we believed that he was genuinely interested in booking with us.

We are certain the quality of the trip and services presented by us to "Mr Marks" would be impossible to replicate at 50% of the price we quoted. Why? Because he isn't comparing apples with apples and after so long in the business in Spain, we know what things cost. "Mr Marks" assumption about our margins is entirely misguided.

Totally Spain has been in business in Spain for almost 20 years. We are a small, specialist travel company with a very good reputation that we strive to maintain. We know we can't please all of the people all of the time but I genuinely think we do so, most of the time. Our longevity, customer feedback and level of repeat business would reflect that. In-house we are all aware of the need to do things right.

If "Mrs Marks" was a genuine customer then it is a shame that he didn't travel with us. He would have been delighted with the trip and he would have been extremely impressed with the overall standard as well as the quality, personalised trip documentation that we would have provided to him to enhance his overall experience.

No one to date has ever felt the need to review us as "Mr Marks" has done and deliberately tried to damage our reputation. After posting it he informed us that he had also copied it to several other review sites. Seriously? I don't understand this....... what? Vendetta? Something feels awry.

One last comment in regards to my employee Olaia. She has worked for Totally Spain for almost 15 years handling some of the most discerning clients. She has created umpteen memorable trips over the years and knows exactly how to treat and deal with customers. Even those that are a challenge. Within 48hrs she had created a proposal for "Mr Marks" for a trip that was complex and from a brief that was not easy to follow. I am entirely satisfied with how she dealt with this enquirer. sincerely Ken Baldwin
