Do not rent from them
I have screenshots, documents, and copies for every single statement below. I rented a place for them and had to cut my stay short due to the fact that I found their services insufficient. They did not turn on the heat until all the tentants complained. The temperature in the room near the window was around 13 degrees. Then, one Friday evening, the boiler stopped working, and they do not provide 24/7 assistance, so we had to freeze for two days. Again, all the tenants had to write a letter of complaint. As I am moving out, they have claimed that the patched-up holes in the walls are my responsibility, even though I never touched the walls and don't have any furniture. That's how I got the apartment in the first place. But the reason they are doing it is to get more money from renters. So, overall, this company is not reliable or trustworthy. My advice is: do not rent from them, do not deal with them; they are not trustworthy.
I have been living in an apartment of…
I have been living in an apartment of Tweelwonen for 2 years. I had issues with heating and internet that managed to solve after 1 year of complaining. Last, they withheld more that 300 euros from my deposit for stuff that we did not see or sign during our official check out inspection. I would be very careful if I had to deal with them since for sure they will illegally and irrationally charge you for things.
Fighting for Service from "The Owner""
Tweelwonen Leiden. The level of service they offer is not great, whenever it comes to financial issues. My main issue was that the owner is responsibe for the Municipal Taxes (Aanslagbiljet); as per the mail stated by Tweelwonen, but for months now nothing has been paid and Tweelwonen's response is this and I have proof of all these mails >>>
"We have passed it on to the owner"
or the best one after asking and begging after multiple mails and after 3 months
"We have passed it on to the owner.
Sorry for the inconvenience."
I think this is a standard form of response to all the tenants (expats), and I can see that my deposit will be the next thing I will be battling with :(
I get it that you have a lot of properties to manage, but wow after months of asking and begging for the owner to his/her part, they still do not care about the financial obligations towards the tenant.
This is with any issue you ask of Tweelwonen, the delay is insane long and not very informative, sometime weeks before a response I have proof of this as well even for simple issues or questions; always left in the dark. I would urge people to be cautious about renting with them, just now you become part of the statistics of exploited expats in The Netherlands regarding rental issues.
Just an extra side note, they will keep the deposit as long as possible even if new tenants live in the flat for more than a month.
Tweelwonen provided a fantastic…
Tweelwonen provided a fantastic long-stay rental apartment in central Leiden at a reasonable price. I've always found them professional, responsive, and friendly to deal with, both the agents and the service team. Would definitely recommend 2L and use them again.

Horrible experience
Horrible experience, they used an expired landlord law to scam us into paying three months rent up front as well as a deposit (3600 euros total). They said it was a 6 months to 1 year contract and after we sent our documents (before signing the contract) they said we were legally obliged to pay the amount I mentioned or we would be sued. We contacted a lawyer friend and after reviewing the legality we confronted them and stated what they are doing is illegal and we would not comply. After this confrontation they stopped contact. We later found out that the apartment was an Airbnb and could not be considered for a 6mo-1yr home. Very shady.

Warning to new expats
I truly warn everyone who wants to rent accommodation through Tweelwonen that it would not be a really smart move in their life. Accommodation is pricy and furniture is cheap and not fit for purpose. If you decide to move to another accommodation (not run by Tweelwonen) you will have to wait for your deposit for three months. Do not have any illusions that they will return it to you earlier. Building hygiene is at quite a low standard. You will have to clean it yourself in front of your apartments since the cleaning services are not really doing their jobs. They will never allow you to extend the contract in the same apartment twice. The intention is to make you sign the lease contract for longer terms. DO not do that. Their accommodation is not worth it. Report damages from previous tenants after handover immediately, otherwise they will try to stick it to you and they will heavily charge you for it.

Racist, abusive thiefs
The people running and working for Tweelwonen and their "service" company are pure scammers who have stolen our deposit. The staff is racist and abusive. We have been treated unprofessionally and abused on multiple occasions. We are suing them in court now.

Beware of their hidden costs
One of the very few places where you can get short-term rental of apartments, which is great. The apartment was really nice, except for being pricier than comparable on the market, but we can consider that a short-term rental premium.
Unfortunately, though, I can relate to everyone's complaints regarding the deposits. In their contract, they enforce a 3-month period for returning your deposit (vs. the typically used in the Netherlands 1-month period). And on top of that, they don't even keep to that. According to the contract, they should have returned my deposit no later than 8 days ago and there's still nothing in my bank account. They didn't even send me the final invoice or contact me to apologize for the delay until I called.
They also seriously overcharge for the things on your final bill. This website, unfortunately, doesn't allow me to attach a snippet of my bill, but I'll list some of the highlights:
- There was 1 teaspoon missing and they're charging 5 eur for that :D
- The hourly rate of the final cleaning was 38.15 eur / hour when even in Amsterdam the typical rate is ~15 eur
- The hourly rate for maintenance was 54.5 eur / hour
- They took 115 eur for cleaning (the apartment was left in very good condition) and 36 eur for dry cleaning (which is understandable, though poorly executed because when I moved in there were other people's hairs in the bedsheets)
Horrible attitude, not even an apology
I have found a property in Leiden that I like, so I arranged a viewing. I spoke on the phone with agents the day before the viewing, and even before I left for Leiden as I was going to be late. They were aware that I am firm on having a garden/yard as I have a dog, and still didn't tell me the apartment was rented out before I left, and only apartments without a garden are free. Basically I drove 90 minutes to say "thanks but no thanks" because there's high demand and almost no availability.
P.S.: You are not our customers, we are your customers and we pay you for your services, not the other way around. Remember how to be a little bit more human.

2BR unit Verbeekstraat Leiden
We are renting 2BR unit at Verbeekstraat Leiden (Ground Floor) for one year. Actually we love GF unit, but because of rat issues we decide to move up to the new unit on 4thFl next week. Tweelwonen gave quick response of our complaints and sent the handyman next day after we called (fixed holes on the wall).
Hopefully we are going to stay at the new unit for the next 6-12months.
Thank you for being our 2nd home 🏠

Totally unprofessional
Totally unprofessional. If you can, go far away from this real estate agency!
Really bad experience
Really bad experience. It looked good in the beginning until we signed the contract and since then everything was bad. They didn't care at all, whatever happened was always yours responsibility to fix.
Communication is zero zero zero, they never replay to your emails and when they do is a b...t one.
If you have different opinion from them, they will start bulling and making threats and other things...
They arrogant, selfish and that is why they have only bad reviews.
If you want the deposit back you have to fight a lot or otherwise you will lose it. I got mine after 7 months when hiring a lawyer.
If you still want to go renting with them do yourself a big favor, Get an Layer Insurance you will need it.
Hope karma takes good care to the owner ....they increased my level of stress a lot

They invented all kind of lies to keep the security deposit worth thousands of euros. I don't understand why they would do that. Don't rent from them.
All tenants experience the same.

If you have already rented from them, get legal assistance before leaving.
Tweelwonen bears the name of the van der Tweel family, and several of them work there. They invent all kinds of reasons to keep part of your security deposit, and delay for months before giving anything back. When you dispute the charges they lie, bully, threaten, intimidate, and call you a liar. What kind of family is that? Don't rent from them. If you have already given them a security deposit, you're in trouble. Before checking out contact Juridisch Loket. They intervened on my behalf and Tweelwonen dropped some but not all of the false charges. Without legal assistance you might not be so lucky.

Slechte ervaring / Bad experience
I have used Tweelwonen for a short-term rent of an apartment in Leiden and have now gotten into a very unpleasant dispute around return of my full deposit after the end of the rental agreement.
Tweelwonen claims various false cost around the state of the apartment and cleaning cost, which are not in the rental agreement and they refuse to pay me back the rest of the deposit. So they basically just take money from you at the end of the rental term.
When confronting they just lie and say this is per the contract, which is not true.
I would really recommend against using this organization for renting of an apartment, they are not very reliable when it comes to contracts/return of deposit.
Follow up:
Yes I did rent with your organization on the Eschertoren, why would you even question that? The final view of the apartment was done with someone of tweelwonen, so stop blaming this on others. I would NEVER rent from your organization again. now suck it up and spend your time improving on your service for gods sake.
