Sure they're fine at SEO, but treat creatives badly
Want to start by saying I'm sure they're great at SEO. My experience comes from applying for a job with them and that process.
I applied for a position of video editor, went to the next stage which I had been told was a test edit. The owner spoke with me about not wanting to do unpaid tests, which I agree with. He told me it would take half a day. It included a quick edit but also the creation of graphic content, stingers, lower thirds etc. This takes time, roughly half a day so that fit.
I didn't get the job in the end, they went for someone in London who could cover multiple roles (being clear on this earlier would have saved this entire situation). I understood and sent a reply and an invoice. Then suddenly no more replies.
When I chased up the owner let me know that he hadn't meant that stage would be a half day, and it should have only taken an hour. When I pointed out that there's nothing I had seen or been told that suggested that, and that if he refused to pay I would have to leave a review like this, he accused me of slander.
Clearly I don't think a review is slander. If anything, legal accusations like this to creatives who you refuse to pay speaks of a wider problem. Either way, I offered them a couple of week to come up with any evidence that I had been informed it would be unpaid, or to resolve the issue, and here we are.
