reserved a 20ft truck out of Cedar…
reserved a 20ft truck out of Cedar Rapids (month in advance) and they gave it to someone 3 days before my rental, called and told me i had to drive to Cedar Falls for my truck. that's back/forth 3 hours out of my way just to get a truck i reserved from my own city originally. not to mention gas/miles. they took a total of 40 off my rental price to compensate along with agreeing not to charge me for the extra miles driving back to CR. that's it. 3 hours there/back, making someone else take me to drop me off, my time, their time, gas in my car AND the Uhaul. all to save $40. 1000% ridiculous, the "traffic" person calling you gives ZERO crap and was rude. one gal in the CR site tried to help, however wasn't able to. cudos to her/at least she tried. my reservation also stated CR as my pick-up location. canceled the uhaul reservation, went with Penske. unlimited miles/truck guaranteed AND they came close to matching the price of the U-haul quote. If i could give uhaul a big fat ZERO, here i would.
Security risk
Rented a truck for a few hours. After return and invoiced, my information and credit card were used to make online purchases. After cancelling card and clearing with bank I called U-Haul to let them know what happened at this location or with their network and was told it’s not their problem. I would never recommend giving any information to any U-Haul because their security sucks or their locations are run by criminals, hard to tell which is worse.
Worst experience ever!
I want to share my dissatisfaction with my recent U-Haul rental experience.
First, I received the truck with absolutely no gas in it. I was told not to worry because there was a gas station nearby. I expressed my concern about whether I’d even make it that far, and was reassured that I would. Unfortunately, I didn’t. Due to traffic, the truck ran out of gas and stopped right in the middle of the road. I had to walk to buy gas and return to the truck, which was a terrible and frustrating experience.
Additionally, when I picked up the truck, I was told that the pick-up inspection had already been completed and that I didn’t need to do it myself. However, when I started loading my belongings, I noticed the truck hadn’t been cleaned at all—there was broken glass scattered inside, which was very unsafe.
Finally, when it was time to return the truck, I made it clear both during booking and registration that my return location was in Lachine (H8S 2C6). However, when I tried to return it, the system directed me to “Lachine, Michigan,” which is in the U.S.! I had no choice but to leave the truck at the closest U-Haul location on William McDonald in Lachine. There was no staff present when I dropped it off.
Overall, this was the worst rental experience I’ve ever had. I hope you take this feedback seriously and make improvements for future customers.
They put in the wrong date
I called to change my reservation and move it up. They said they successfully moved it to the 26 of June, but they put 26 of July. Didn't notice until I arrived at the dealership.
Absolutely the worst
Absolutely the worst! Rented a 20ft truck to move, had movers all lined up and ready
When we got to the UHaul rental company at the Baymont Motel in Bellevue, Nebraska. Our truck was not available! The party who had it was already five hours late! We were very upset as we had unloaders in Kansas already set to unload. So we went to another UHaul company in Bellevue and they had a 26ft available. Great, right? Well we thought so. So after renting this truck we drove it to our destination in Kansas and unloaded. All is well right? NOT! After we unloaded we cleaned out the truck and filled it with fuel. More than we started with. We drove the UHaul to Colby, Kansas, where we said we would be dropping it off at. Anyway, when we dropped it off the guy at the UHaul was just leaving. It was July 3rd at 6pm. He checked it out and asked why we had a local truck? We didn't know the difference? He said he'd find out Monday after the holiday. We rented this truck on Wednesday and returned it Thursday evening. Since then we have received many calls from UHaul wanting to know where the truck was? Well, since it wasn't properly checked in by the guy in Colby, Kansas, it was considered missing in action! Unbelievable! We had no idea this truck should of never left BELLEVUE, NEBRASKA! This screw up is on UHaul, not us. Totally the worst experience in moving ever!
Uhaul acts in mysterious ways
I rented a truck online in Sioux Falls. My appointment was at 7 PM and I had the address of a car repair shop. When I got there the place was closed and there were no Uhaul tricks. I called the help center and the rep directed me to another location. I rented a truck while the staff member was complaining about other locations. I told him that I had to drive more than the daily 30 mile limit and I wanted the optimal pricing options. He clicked on his computer and told me I was all set with the best possible mileage cost. I drove 400 miles and my bill was $850. Then Uhaul sends me a satisfaction survey. I marked 2 stars. The first question was: "What did you like?" I mentioned the call center help and the functioning truck and that was it. A one question survey. I guess the company doesn't want to hear any criticism
Reservation 5 weeks in advance, canceled the night before…
Made a reservation 5 weeks in advance to rent a 4x8 trailer from San Francisco to Detroit. We were flying out early Friday morning and one way drive back, received a call from Uhaul the Thursday night before that "they don't have a trailer available " even though I had a reservation. Absolutely zero empathy for how bad they put my family and I in a bad situation. The completely unhelpful agent on the phone advised there is a 5x8 trailer 2 hours away (4 hours round trip) but I would have to pay the increased rate. I asked for them to move it closer to my location, was advised again with zero empathy "we don't do that". UHaul is an embarrassment of a company, has even more embarrassing service agents, and it's a shame being an an American company. They literally do not care one bit about you or your situation. This is the 3rd strike - never again. I ended up buying a new trailer in California, sold it in Michigan and broke even, so zero cost for a trailer. There is always another option than UHaul. I will do EVERYTHING in my power to tell people how awful UHaul is as an "American" company, just worthless.

Had a U-Haul rented but it was given away
Had a U-Haul rented, 26’ and was supposed to be ready for pick up in my town one day. They called the day before and told us the truck was gone and they wouldn’t have it for us but we would have one and hour and a half a way the next day. The next day we were 15 mins away from the pick up and we got a call that some other people took the truck before us. We now move tomorrow with no truck anywhere near us because U-Haul is a terrible service.
Absolute crap
Absolute crap! I put down a rental deposit and they only paid me back half of it 8 months later. They claim I used more kilometers than I did. What happens with the truck once I drop it off? I went from A to Z like I was supposed to.
Horrid service in St Albert
Horrid service in St Albert, flat out lied to and let’s not discuss the extra charges for their mistake !! Never again !! Avis had what I needed for a better rate after dealing with the poor service at U-Haul! Will never again use this company
WPB truck rental…
We recently rented a truck in West Palm Beach Florida. When we returned the truck, we left it in line as I was told to do. Uhaul must've mixed up the trucks and charged us for 89.6 miles when we went 17.9 and said that we returned it the next day which was inaccurate. I wish there was another reasonable company to rent trucks from because after this experience I never want to rent a truck from them again . I don't like being accused of lying.
Classic "bait-and-switch" operation
Classic "bait-and-switch" operation. From insurance that doesn't work as it should to cheating dealers the company is in dire need of a top-to-bottom makeover.
U-Haul over books worst than Airlines, deceptive Business practices
This the second time they have pulled this last minute cancellation, requested a 26’ 2 months ago and talked to them 3 days ago, moving into new home (Montrose Co.) Nothing available, unless drive 60 miles to pick one up and drive 60miles to return it @ ($.99 mile).
Just looked up their reviews, 91% 1 star rating, that explains everything. Called Pensk rental and booked truck with credit card in 3 minutes, cost more but
reliable. I promised to give ( cost) UHaul $ thousands in free negative advertising. Res.# 26236581, call me if you carry about your Public trading CO. , ticker UHAL
Convenience services in OKC off Britton…
Convenience services in OKC off Britton Rd is the worst moving company I've experienced. Their staff is so unprofessional and reek of drugs. One worker (Pete) was lazy and did a poor job.
The owner (Raj) is a scam artist. He finds a way to book you for extra fees. Hygiene quality of the staff was also poor. I recommen that no one ever use this company.
Reserved a trailer only to have it…
Reserved a trailer only to have it cancelled last minute had to drive 2 hrs out of my way to fulfill my commitment. Than was overcharged when I returned it. Use budget if you can
doesn't know how to weight trailers for…
doesn't know how to weight trailers for auto transport
Abysmal performance
Abysmal. Changing dates. Missed times. Confusion at their end. Overall incompetence and disappointment. My plans were ruined.
U-Haul provided misleading service, caused vehicle damage, and ignored all formal complaints
On May 16, 2025, I scheduled and paid $521.15 for a hitch installation at U-Haul, based on confirmation that the location could support e-bike transport. When I arrived, I was redirected to a different location where the installer had no knowledge of the e-bike requirement. Like what ??? The installation was done improperly and caused visible vehicle damage.
When I raised concerns with management, I received false and contradictory responses.
I submitted multiple written complaints and legal notices beginning May 30, 2025, including formal filings with:
The Federal Trade Commission
The Better Business Bureau
The Michigan Attorney General
To date—June 9, 2025—U-Haul has not responded in writing, has not taken accountability, and has not resolved the damage or refund owed. They’ve ignored every official channel and failed to respond to direct communication. I would not recommend this location—or U-Haul generally—to anyone expecting integrity, technical expertise, or basic follow-through.
OVER CHARGES ADMITTED BUT NO REFUND
The vehicle was filthy and they over charge me almost $400.00 and admitted it however, they only refunded less than $150.00. I was a customer for over 25 years.
Shame on you...:((( never again will I give you U-hall my credit card... WHAT A SHAME
Cancels your booking at the last minute
After reading the reviews here, I can add to the testimonials that this company will cancel on you at the last minute. Twice now I have booked an appointment with U-Hauls here in Calgary (I booked with a second shop this time as I thought it was just the local shop itself messing me around the first time) to have a hitch put on my vehicle. I booked well in advance so that I could reserve times and places that worked with my work schedule. Twice now they call/text with less than 24 hours notice to “confirm” (which had already been confirmed a week prior) my reservation… at a totally different day, time and even location than I had booked! The first time I actually got to talk to a human who, after I told her what days and times I could come, just kept offering me NOT those dates and times. This second time, I can’t even get to a human to talk to to “unconfirm” the new reservation that is TODAY that I cannot make- just keep getting looped around in their automatic answering system. At least I’m not moving right away with movers already booked like some poor souls in these reviews! For sure don’t give them your money, and do not count on them to respect or honour your time and commitments.
