Very Unpleasant Service And Poor Craftmanship
One year ago i inherited an Omega Seamasters Watch from my late grandfather. It was a bit dirty and unbecoming as you would expect, so I decided to have it cleaned and pressurized and have the battery changed by professionals. I searched through my city, Aarhus, and found this shop Uhrmageriet, which claimed to be Omega specialists, could it be any better?
I handed in my watch to a rather unpleasant elderly man, but I thought to myself that I should not judge his craftsmanship by his general attitude.
A week later i went to pick up my newly cleaned (And pressurized!) watch, which was seemingly fine, and payed the 750dkk (approx. 100 euros) that I was charged.
Approximately six month later i started no notice foreign "matter", appearing on the inside of the glass in my watch. Some of this matter looked like dust particles and some of it looked like small fibers of cotton. I thought that this was very strange due to the fact that the watch was supposed to be waterproof down to 300m/1000ft and an Omega "specialist" had pressurized it just six month earlier.
After this dirt on the inside on the glass had come to my attention I started noticing new particles week after week and at one point I decided that this could not be right and that I had to ask Uhrmageriet how this could be.
Less than one year after I first had the watch cleaned and pressurized I stood in Uhrmageriet in Aarhus again speaking to another unpleasant employee. I explained in detail What had happened, when it happened and I asked him if he had seen anything like it and if he could explain the phenomenon.
He was very snappy and did not have much to tell me. He took in the watch for service and wrote a note which said that there was quotation "Dust" on the inside of the glass. He also wrote down my phone number and told me that they would call me when he knew more about the case.
Two weeks went by and I did not receive any calls so I decided to call them. I was told that the watch was finished. Apparently it had just been lying there and they had to intention of contacting me.
Later that day (today) I went to pick up the watch. I was met by the same unpleasant man that I spoke to when I was there for the first time one year earlier. He told me that the "dust" was removed and furthermore they had pressurized the watch. So far so good. What I think is unacceptable is that he then said that I would be charged another 300dkk (40 euros) for the pressurization. I asked him how that could be, seeing that I had they had already pressurized the watch one year earlier and that the malfunction was clearly a result of their poor service, as the watch was supposed to be 100% air proof which it had clearly not been. He told me that they had no explanation for the dust inside the watch and that they provided zero warranty on the services that they provided. Not exactly the answer that you would expect from a workshop that promotes themselves as being the leading Omega experts in Denmark.
I argued with the man for some time, but I did not see any other thing to do than to pay the price and leave the shop.
As if this wasn't enough, when I came home I discovered that at least two of the dust particles that I had complained about in the first place were still on the inside of the glass of the watch!
All in all very poor service. If you ever consider spending a large amount of money on a luxury watch I advice you to take your money elsewhere!
