So my bike finally arrived. Shockingly bad build quality. The frame has gouges, paint is uneven, the components eg Allen bolts are really cheap. The frame also flexes a lot when riding. The battery li... See more

Huge scam

Huge scam. They rebrand a Chinese bike, made for children to up to 70Kg, and sold to us as a innovative adult commute bike. Which doesn’t weights 12Kg and is way wider than 25cm when folded. Precisely 17.9Kg and 36cm folded. Poor quality on everything but it’s frame that looks like well built but it will suffer with corrosion that’s why they coated with epoxy paint all over it. Repaint yours if you scratch it anywhere.

I odered two bikes end of 2018

I odered two bikes end of 2018; the delivery should have been in July 2019. But - as you can imagine - the bikes didn´t come. All mails to UCB were answered with different excuses for the delay. Finally in spring 2020 a mail arrived with short handling instructions for the bike, and short after that the bike arrived. Negative are the really cheap headlamps, the so-called fenders, and the batteries seam to have different duration and power.
We enjoy riding the bikes and had in so far no technical problems, but since a couple of weeks one bike clatters according to the speed. So far I have sent two mail to UCB for a possible solution to the problem but no response came up today.

I have the US version

I have the US version. I have read that some customers are angry that delivery was delayed and some parts were downgraded without consent. However, mis-management problems aside, I am very happy with my bike. It is solid and reliable, and yes, Chinese.

Ralf is an international financial crook…

The company itself and it's Manager Ralph are international financial crooks - they have been using several investment platforms to attract capital for scam products and then stay away from any responsibilities. Don't waste your money. This company is part of an international fraud / scam ring.

Pay and never receive

Guys,

Pure SCAM
They do not deliver. Long emails chain, they promise promise and promise, always new excuses. Once of a sudden Ralf send me the invoice for "custom clearance" (another USD 400) which I was stupid enough to pay.
Now they stopped responding to my emails after I have requested the full refund.
These guys are scam artists.. I'm sending the case to my lawyer.
DO NOT BUY!

****DON'T LET THEIR ADVERTISEMENT GET THE BEST OF YOU

****BUYERS, PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME ORDERING FROM UNITED CITY BIKES****

Ralf and Anna are initially willing to assist but once I sent payment, the email responses has stopped. I also tried contacting their Customer Support Department by email and no response from them either. I'm totally disappointed with myself for trusting these people.

Update: 1/28/2021
After not receiving any responses from United City Bikes, I reached out to PayPal by submitting disputes due to separate payments made for the bike order. PayPal’s awesome staff reviewed my case and got shipping informations. I am expecting the bike order to arrive today. More update to come.

Update: 1/29/2021
The eBike finally arrived without damage. However, during unpacking, I discovered the battery charger that came in the box did not come with a US electrical plug or a US adapter for the supplied EU electrical cord so I can charge the battery. I believe the bike was shipped from their state-side warehouse. Now I have to see if UCB will send me an adapter or the proper electrical cord. At this point, all I received is an eBike I can't charge and test for proper operation.

I need your help!(This is a comment from Japan)

At present, The One commutes to work about three times a month after arriving, and is currently driving 418 kilometers (as of December 17).I would like to ask everyone at United City Bikes, assuming that I like the design and would like to continue using it.

Since the arrival of the product, even though the seat post fixing part has been tightly closed, it has been gradually falling down while driving, but today something terrible happened, so I am contacting you to ask for your attention.

There was a case where the seat post suddenly dropped to the bottom while driving today, and I almost fell down because of the imbalance.Fortunately, it didn't lead to traffic accidents because it was a road with little traffic.
What happened to me?When I looked at the seat post , there was damage to the fixing part, and no matter how many times I closed it, it was not firmly fixed.
This part may be recognized as a consumable item, but as long as it has a built-in battery, I think it is a part that opens and closes frequently.
I've only used it about 16 times for commuting to and from work for about 25 km, so I think there's a problem with the damaged parts.

Regarding this case, could you please provide the parts as warranty coverage?
Also, please introduce us to bicycle shops that do aftercare in Japan (it was listed on the purchase introduction page Q&A).

In addition, I would appreciate it if you could tell me how to fix the seat post that won't come down.

I really like bicycles themselves, so I'm not disappointed with what happened today.I would like to continue using it in the future, so I appreciate your consideration.

No customer support

I've been trying to contact Customer Service via their e-mail address to no avail. I'm in the U.S. and the bike they sent is the EU version max speed wise, about 15mph. I'm wondering if there is a way to modify something in the motor to get the speed up to what they advertise for the U.S. 20mph. And the display screen is in Kilo/ph and I'm unable to switch it to mph. The current 15mph is definitely too slow. Disappointed.

Extremely bad quality and dishonest company…

Extremely bad quality and no customer support. They send damaged bikes and then is nobody to support. Waste of money. Much better products and honest companies out there. They are abusing the customers trust and money in a pandemic - unprofessional and unethical!

Six months and still waiting (Edit - got them finally)

Six months and still waiting. Bought a twin set. They Asked for more money For unforeseen extra shipping costs due to a low crate load (lol). I said I’d wait longer until the crate load was more full or the next one. Then heard nothing. And that was all after an initial flurry of communication and then nothing for three or four weeks Before hearing more money was needed for shipping. A lot more. I said no way. It’s gotta be one of those fake Chinese shell companies that are everywhere. I was scammed.
Edit:
as a lot are reading this I will edit. Due diligence and fairness. After threatening to pursue refund action and going through my credit card service agreement. I heard back right away (they were always good at responding). Then I got My bikes within 8 days as promised. And as Promised, no additional delivery fees. I was shocked it happened. Now, guess what? I did not get the bags I had paid for, and I did not get the better battery and upgraded bikes I paid for (the U2 not U1). They just seem disorganized. The product looks fine but truthfully it may not be. I can’t ride it and test them now, as winter has begun here. So that will Have to wait. I can’t vouch for the quality. I can see they pass the eyeball and touch test. Not happy I did not get my upgrades.
Edit Number 2:
While I’d did not get my upgrades. I did get two more free ones now. Omg. They are so disorganized. Seems that two departments or people got the order to get me my forgotten original order. And now I have two pairs of bikes instead of the one pair I purchased. Lol. That’s, they still didn’t get my order correct. As no upgrades on any of them. That I asked and paid for.
Crazy!

FRAUD

FRAUD! They are really late in the delivery, I live in switzerland (company country) and ask to pay taxes (come on you are selling the bike as a swiss company but you are asking to pay your taxes because you are building the bike in China? Where it was written?).

They are nonsense, mixing the crownfunding in indiegogo and ulule, lying about the delivery date and does not reiumburse.

If you want to save your money DO NOT INVEST IN UCB.

Please ask to Ulule or indiegogo about their experiences, you will see that MANY are in my situation.

Best,

This is an organised scam project. Do Not Buy.

Do. Not. Buy.

The 'CEO of the company' you see smiling in the videos talking about this wonderful bike? He's a paid actor reading a script.

The 14 day refund period? Doesn't exist, once you transfer your money you're not getting it back.

The Shimano brakes? Nope they're not included.

The 12.5kg weight? Wrong. It's actually nearly a full 2KG HEAVIER at 14.3kg as they don't include the weight of the seat post and battery.

The £500 hidden shipping and customs costs? Guess what? They're not included, or mentioned anywhere in the T&C's until after your money is taken.

The maximum speed? That's false also, couldn't get it above 20km/h. Over 12 km/h slower than they claim it travels at.

And how about the fact it's actually a relatively cheap white label chinese e-bike which has been ordered in bulk by UCB and then plastered with their branding? That's right, this bike has not been 'designed' from scratch, is not ground breaking, is not a legitimate product.

The only reason Trustpilot is currently showing 2 1/2 stars is because they've paid people to leave positive reviews. I see they're slashing their prices now too, trying to offload the warehouse of product before doing a runner I imagine.

This business is a con, run by an experienced con artist and based on lies.

Beautiful bike BUT 49.8% HIDDEN COST & ....

Beautiful bike BUT 49.8% HIDDEN COST & ....

1) 49.8% HIDDEN COSTS: CLAIMED COST 999$, REAL COST 1498$

(+ 21% Swiss VAT + 23.8 % Custom Duty EU)

2) FALSE WEIGHT: CLAIMED WEIGHT 12.5 Kg, REAL WEIGHT 14.3 Kg

3) NO SHIMANO BREAK: Non branded parts, difficult to service the bicycle in London

4) Heavy and Slow to drive when Engine is turned off

5) FALSE MAX SPEED: Claimed Max Speed 32 km/h real speed less than 20 km/h (Speedometer is showing a completely wrong speed)

6) GO-CYCLE GS is a lot FASTER (I met a pair on the street and couldn't follow them), anybody can service it, it is more RESISTANT (United City Bike seem really fragile, and I already have a broken pedal after few km riding), is provided with a free App connected to your phone, bigger wheels. It's more expensive but definitely worth the upgrade (starting from circa 1,999£ including bag Vat Custom duty), available in a few days, no false discounts.. It's easy to check online...
