About Vets Now

Pet emergencies can happen at any time – including when your regular vet is closed.

That’s why our nationwide network of out-of-hours pet emergency clinics are open through the night, at weekends and on bank holidays, so we’re ready and waiting to provide expert pet emergency care when your regular vet is having some time off.

Our pet emergency clinics are the pet equivalent of A&E and our purpose is to give you and your pet the care and support you deserve, at the time you need it most, whether it’s four in the morning or in the middle of Sunday lunch.

Vets Now provides this trusted service to more than 1000 veterinary practices across the UK — from over 60 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and two 24/7 pet emergency hospitals. In total, we treat around 200,000 small animals every year — our highly-skilled team works hard throughout the night, weekends and Bank Holidays. So whether you’re in Aberdeen, Belfast or Portsmouth we’re there for you and your pet when you need us most.

We’ve also pioneered other ways to help pets, pet owners and the veterinary profession, such as our comprehensive referrals service and providing our staff with industry-leading training and development opportunities. We also support the pet blood transfusion charity, Pet Blood Bank UK. Meanwhile, our two hospitals — in Glasgow and Manchester — are home to some of the UK’s leading specialists in the field of emergency and critical care and provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

I really wasn’t sure what to expect……..

I really wasn’t sure what to expect, my naughty Shih Tzu, Zou had swallowed a sock. Advising me on the phone he needed to be seen quickly. Upon arriving I was greeted by the Team and Claudia, who definitely was very patient with Zou. An hour later one sock retrieved! And one very exhausted Zou. Found the team pleasant and helpful. The whole experience was dealt with professionally and Zou was cared for excellently. Great to know places like this exist. 🙂

The price overall was extremely expensive. The pain killers were so expensive. It’s really difficult to understand why they are the price they charge. I appreciate the charge for out of hours but the medicine not.

Shocking bill!

Although the staff were really helpful, we gave them a time that we would arrive. We were left waiting in reception for 20 minutes.

Then to get the bill was absolutely shocking! How can you justify charging £340 for an OOH consult?!?! For that, a painkiller injection and 5 days of painkillers to take home, my bill was £480!

You are way overpriced and I feel that you are taking advantage of a pet owners distress when they need to have their pet, whom they love dearly, examined due to an emergency.

It is actually cheaper to pay for human medical attention.

It causes pet owners a dilemma of whether to take their poorly animal to get checked over, or whether to stay home and possibly leave their pet in pain or distress.

I assume the vet’s trained in this profession because they care about animals, but you, the people that they work for, are causing them embarrassment and probably making them feel like they don’t want to do this as a profession anymore.

You need to think about the owners and how much is really a feasible amount to pay, not think about how much profit you can make to line your own pockets and pay your senior staff their shockingly high wages!

Hi there, I know it can be frustrating having to pay for an unplanned trip to the vets. Much like it is for other out-of-hours services in other industries, It's more expensive to run an out-of-hours pet emergency service than a general daytime practice. We've broken down where our costs go here if you'd like to find out more: https://www.vets-now.com/2018/01/emergency-vet-costs-prices-fees/.
If you’d like to query your bill or speak to us about anything we’re here for you on enquiriesteam@vets-now.com.
We know how hard it is, also to wait when your pet is unwell. We triage our patients on arrival and keep owners updated; if that wasn't your experience, please let us know.

Service was expediant as an emergency appointment. The only quibble I have is the distance to travel without a car & how much it cost (Emmergency Fee) as pet injured themselves outside of my normal vet hours.

Hi , thanks for your feedback on the cost of your pet’s care at Vets Now. We appreciate that taking an unplanned trip to an emergency care provider can be frustrating. It’s much more expensive to run an emergency clinic than a regular daytime veterinary practice and our prices do reflect this. Short staffed- no service available

The clinic was very short staffed (only one vet and one nurse). No one on reception. We arrived and were told to wait. No one spoke to us at all, there was no triage. After more than 90 minutes I managed to speak to someone via the intercom outside the building. I was told they were very busy. I finally rang the number for the central switchboard (which is in Scotland- the surgery was in Sidcup) and eventually (after we'd been there about 2 hours) the vet hastily "triaged" our dog (who had vomited blood) on the floor of the waiting room. We were told she needs to see a vet but the vet on duty would not be able to see her for "several hours". So we left.

This is not in any way a criticism of the staff working that night. They were over-worked and understaffed and were caring for far more critically sick animals than our dog (although they wouldn't have known this without triaging her). However, this surgery should not have been offering an emergency service and we should never have been directed there.
