People frequently struggled with poor vehicle quality, encountering unexpected rust, persistent mechanical failures, faulty parts, and severe manufacturing defects shortly after taking delivery. Consumers also complained about deeply unhelpful customer service, rude advisors, communication breakdowns, and frustratingly lengthy delays when trying to resolve urgent problems. Some reviewers were happy with individual staff members who provided friendly support, efficient roadside assistance, and genuinely helpful service during unexpected vehicle breakdowns. Horrendous!

Chose a car, paid a deposit…. It got sold to someone else! Spoke to another dealership (Lookers Guildford) 4 times wanting to buy a new car- no one got back to me. Called Martins in Farnham- no one got back to me.
Called VW customer services- they can’t look at stock anywhere but suggested they call the same branch in Guildford as I couldn’t.mr get a response- um- no thanks- I have zero faith in anyone and VW customer services seem to have zero interest at all. Don’t waste your time!!! Give VW a wide berth- horrendous experience! Time to choose another car!

Lancaster VW Bad Experience

Lancaster VW sold me a 3 month old Touareg, but then wanted nothing to do with me. The car was supplied with no oil showing on the gauge, so no pre-delivery inspection, the mileage was wrongly advertised and was double what was in the advert, and the garage director’s phones were still on the car play. The last issue may seem trivial, but I cannot remove them or put my own on, and no one will help or even return a call. Do not buy from Lancaster VW is my advise.

Thank you VW Roadside Assist

I am writing to record my appreciation of VW Roadside Assist and technician Rob for fixing a problem with my Arteon in Penzance today.
My phone call was answered quickly and technician Rob arrived within half an hour. About an hour later he had diagnosed the reason for misfiring, and identified obtained and fitted the parts needed to resolve it.
This was done by the side of the road on a wet and windy Cornish day.
Thank you very much phone contact person and Rob---you saved our holiday.Roger.

VW tried to take nearly £20k from our account without authorisation for a car that we have been trying to return

We purchased an ID4 Max Pro on PCP. We have been trying to hand the car back over the last 7 weeks at the end of the contract. The car is in the garage and VW have no idea what is wrong with it and even though its under 4 years old with less than 20,000 it is a car that despite authorising diagnostics at £180 per hr with VW they are no closer to finding the reason for the error code. The PCP contract ended on 20 Oct and despite all the emails and phone calls over the previous 7 weeks VW Financial Services tried without success to take nearly £20k out of our bank account. More emails and still no response. Will never touch VW again.

Worst experience ever

Worst experience ever - How Ian Johnson is a manager is beyond me. No Customer service, didn't feel welcome or listened to wit my concerns, treated like a second class citizen for being born disabled, never have I ever felt so humiliated and upset. The dealership has gone down since keys member of staff including Sarah have left. This place should be closed with immediate effect.

VW Golf 8

I have been complaining about a faulty ACC for over four years since I bought the car. This has been met with zero help from VW who continue adopt the position that if there is no fault found under diagnostics then there is no fault.
I took VW to the motor ombudsman (a very slow process) and, as requested, included an independent witness to the fault. VW, rather than review the fault as being outside the diagnostic capability, chose to discredit the independent witness and this, in part, was why the ombudsman found against my claim. It was at the end of the decision that the motor ombudsman bombarded me with in excess of 11,000 (eleven thousand) emails over a two day period.
I now have two VW technicians who have witnessed this ACC fault when test driving my car. They say there is no fix to these faults, at dealership level, in their considerable arsenal of remedies so I’m looking to find a part of VW who can actually help rather than deny the fault exists now I have VW internal witnesses.

No wonder why VW got 1.5.

No wonder why VW got 1.5.

I had a very simple request: allow me to add my vechicle to the VW app. The app has been working for two years but two months ago it stopped connection. Contacted them online, they said they will book me a session in a nearest dealer. Took my car there, they are UNABLE to fix it but they charged me £168. I asked them whether they think charging the customer without solving the issue is reasonable. They promptly and aggressively response, 'You booked the session and our enginneers spent the time on your vehicle. Yes, it is reasonsable.' I don't think I want to spend any more time with this kind of people. I will try every effort to share my experience pubicly and persuade friends not to buy anything from VW.

I’m very disappointed with the overall…

I’m very disappointed with the overall experience of owning a Volkswagen ID.7 Pro. For a new electric vehicle in this price range, there have been too many technical and software issues, and the customer service has been unhelpful. When problems occur, Volkswagen often blames the customer instead of properly investigating potential faults.

The lack of transparency is especially frustrating — requests for diagnostic information or proof of investigation are dismissed as “internal” matters. It feels like there’s no accountability or willingness to address safety or quality concerns seriously.

For a company of Volkswagen’s reputation, I expected better honesty, communication, and technical support. At this point, it’s hard to trust that issues are being handled with the care and attention customers deserve.

Uninterested sales staff

Always bought BMW. But thought would try VW as liked the looked of the Tayron. Staff massively disinterested, just said they didn't have one to view and maybe one would come in at some point. Fella didn't even manage to get off behind his seat. Took my details but never heard from then..so went and bought a new BMW.

Incorrect advice regarding Cambelt from Volkswagen

I bought a Passat march 2024, it had 68000 miles and I was specifically told that the cambelt (timing belt) didn’t need replacing until 140,000 miles which is also vw’s recommended advice I trusted their advice — only to have the cambelt snap at just 101,000 miles, causing serious and expensive damage to the engine.
This kind of misinformation is completely unacceptable. Vw’s advice is wrong, Either way, I’m left with a huge repair bill for a failure that should have been prevented. I would expect to receive compensation for this, however the car is out of warranty, vw really need to change this advice. It’s unacceptable.

2024 VW golf life.

We got a 2024 VW golf life.
Within the first few months anything attached internally fell off.
Things then got progressively worse.

Buttons on the steering wheel fell off.
The VW badge fell off the back.
The driver side wing mirror fell off.
The internal panels for access to the rear lights fell off.
The footwell lining came away.
None of these components could be fit back in.

We regularly took it to the dealership for all services.
They refused to repair or replace anything under warranty.

The infotainment system is slow and buggy.
The automatic brakes occasionally go off without cause.
The cruise control drops it's self down from 70 to 20 when you go under bridges.

The car occasionally refuses to enter 3rd gear without disengaging and reengaging the clutch.

They recently had a recall because some did not have the seat belts attached to anything internally.

This was a brand new vehicle serviced by themselves and these were the issues that started occurring from 6 months in.

Don't even buy a VW, tell your friends to never buy VW.

Fantastic service

I had a fantastic experience at Volkswagen City Gate in Colindale. From the moment I walked in, the team was welcoming and professional. I especially want to highlight the lady who works there (the only one on the team) — she was absolutely brilliant. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was clear and stress-free, and her customer service was outstanding.

It’s rare to come across someone so approachable, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind. She really made the whole process smooth and enjoyable, and I left feeling confident and well looked after.
I would highly recommend this dealership, not only for the quality of their cars but also for the excellent customer service — with special thanks to the lady at City Gate Colindale for making the experience exceptional.

AVOID!!!

AVOID!!!! Too much to explain within character limit.

Customer service - Awful
Service - Awful
Car - Awful (Constant software issues with ID4)
Clueless and unhelpful Customer Service department. It’s clear they have outsourced their call centre to a cheap country who have no experience of Volkswagen and have absolutely no idea what they are talking about… You can only imagine how frustrating the experience is.

Please please please do not go to this brand. Go to any other brand. I have experience with them all and I am 100% that Volkswagen is thee worst by a country mile!!! AVOID

NEED TO DO THIS

NEED TO DO THIS, had enough now, I’ve owned a vw’s since 2002 but this is far the worst Experience ive had with buying a car
 Yd67ssv
I purchased Vw Tiguan in late July 24 from Vw Lancaster north England, straight away I noticed the parcel shelf was broken and was exchanged for another one, I also told them the windscreen was scratched in eye view which I was told they would look at, ive since had the screen replaced at autoglass and they agreed its unusual a main dealer to let this through,  everything else seemed to be ok at a glance, anyway on our journey home to wigan the radio kept switching off and on but resetting itself so rendered CarPlay useless for the trip home,
On the trip home the m6 was closed so needed to use a roads upon which I was stopped by the police about untaxed vehicle, explained I’d just bought the car and shown him proof, he said probably not showing yet on the system, on returning home I double checked the site upon finding it wasn’t taxed and need the documents to do so which wasn’t supplied, I can’t believe Vw Lancaster let me drive home untaxed and couldn’t find the documents to do so V5, eventually that evening some may be one of these numbers was sent to me and was sorted five hours after sale.
Over the next couple of weeks I noticed rattles from passenger door and cup holders in Center console, I checked the door card and it wasn’t even fastened on with clips or screws, in fact I don’t know how it was still in place, the cup holders I can’t see the problem, with in the same weeks I kept getting tire pressure warning lights on dash, to which I did notice my rear near side tire losing air, eventually I took it to the garage and what he found was astonishing, the tire was out of date, it had a shabby repair REASON FOR LEAK, and the rim of the tire was full of corrosion, the man told me how on earth that’s not blown off he doesn’t know, all the tires were then checked and two was replaced,
After the car being in vw for a week over the engine management light “no fault found” and faulty fuel cap repair the management light has been on and off ORANGE NOT RED, Its booked in for service and mot next week and the lights on again now, so will fail obviously,
On washing the car last weekend ive now noticed all the lower tailgate rusting and flaking paint, and now saying its not covered by warranty because its not the original paint, well im sorry it should have been noticed on inspection
This tiguan has really been a none enjoyable purchase with its problems and issues, also to think of the showroom condition gtd i traded in for it, lesson learned about buying a car without seeing it, i just felt pressured into buying it with the old don’t get deposit back routine, so not a good experience with cox group Volkswagen lancaster

Worthless warranty and zero customer service

My Volkswagen Polo is under 2 years old (bought new) still within warranty and is constantly off the road due to electrical/engine problems causing the engine to shut down randomly. The Volkswagen garage where my car was purchased checked my car over the first time this happened (May 7th 2025) then told me the car was ok and safe to drive. They said it happens sometimes and was “just one of those things”. My car broke down again with the same fault 3 days later on a busy main road. I paid to have a diagnostic test carried out on my car independently with an auto-electrical specialist which shows several faults including the main processor which will cost over £1000 to rectify.
The Motor ombudsman has accepted that I have a justified complaint against Volkswagen and my case is ongoing. I am prepared to take this matter to the county court if necessary. No point in taking my car back to Volkswagen again as they are either incompetent or under instruction not to carry out any work on cars under warranty. I wouldn’t trust them.
The Volkswagen customer service just reiterated the assurance that my car is safe to drive and have done nothing constructive to assist up to this date 28th August 2025.
