Porsche Boxster IMS
Keep away. Seriously.
I did engine rebuild due to IMS failure and:
- even if the repair was beyond economical repair they didn't propose me anything else than buying another engine AND full rebuild (now I have a better knowledge than I had that time)
- it took them 2 months instead of two-three weeks
- when I picked up the car it failed after 15 miles, alternator was broken (it wasn't when I gave them the car), I had to fix it myself
They knew something is wrong and they sold me a new battery (!)
- a month later a strange sounds appeared from the engine/gearbox/clutch (clutch has been changed by them as well). They failed to take responsibility and properly diagnose the problem. I took the things in my hands, I dropped the gearbox to see the problem. It was a pilot bearing inside the flywheel which was pushed out of flywheel by careless reassembly. Totally their fault, no regret from their side.
- at the same time an oil appeared in the coolant. They failed to help again, I was flushing cooling system again and again with water, detergents and forte degreaser, several dozens of times, finally, after about a six months, I told them that enough is enough and they have to do something with this. I left the car with them, after a few days they called me back telling me that they cant see a new oil any more in the coolant. It stopped indeed. I suspect head gasket repair kit...
- also a strange, dry rattling sound of engine appeared in the first second when start the cold engine. They even failed to hear that. I found that it is a known problem (well, I didn't had that before failure) and I found no solution and reason for that.
Finally, none of the guys working in the office has a car mechanic past. They know simply nothing.
