Best ever visit to Whitby thanks the White House.
Wonderful very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely room with great views and the breakfast and dinners were delicious. Well positioned for easy local walks and town.

We went to the white house and asked about reserving a table for the England match. We were told we could if we were eating. We did this. The manager(guy) was off with me whilst I arranged this, it was like he was doing me a favour, there were no smiles or pleasantries. When we came to eat before the match, there were many tables reserved for people not eating. I felt ripped off. Whilst there I ordered a second glass of wine and was told they had run out but there was one small glass left which they sold to me. When I got back to my table I checked and it was alot under the marker. I was offered a glass of a different wine. I felt some of the staff mostly the main guy and the main lady were really off and unwelcoming. I would not recommend this place.
We have eaten at the Whitehouse in many times during our stay at Upgang Lane this week! Whilst the food menu is varied and good the portions are far too big for the average appetite, we asked about smaller portions,as we hate waste, the reply was ,that's the menu....besides the oversized portions the chips were very much overcooked, nearly black! we've dined elsewhere and were kindly offered a smaller serving, or to share whether sandwiches or a cooked meal.
The Whitehouse restaurant was never full daily, except Sunday roast day, surely the new management would attract more Oldies, with a cheaper smaller manageable sized portions ,were not all gargantuans!
Well what can I say .... the owner barred us because of the dog 🐕 because she was barking , ......we sat in the garden area near the road .. away from people our dog on lead , when all of a sudden he appeared with his dog OFF the lead , which started our dog barking , then came the rude comments from him , our dog should be locked up... telling dog to shut up,... then told us if we come back he will tell.us to leave ...he was arrogant , rude , and basically.a ###### we been going to this pub for years with no trouble what so ever.... and now we NEVER go back , you don't expect a idiot to own a pub that is basically a tourist spot ,
I came here yesterday with my mum and 3 dogs, we had food and drinks and can’t complain about the food at all. I can however say that it’s supposed to be a dog friendly pub, when I was here yesterday the girl behind the bar was moaning about the customers dogs barking- which is bound to happen when the dogs are saying hello to each other- the member of staff was rolling her eyes and slagging off customers. Which is very unprofessional!! I felt like making a complaint immediately however I ignored it as I agree that dogs barking can be annoying (however if I hated it as much as she clearly did then I wouldn’t be working in a dog friendly pub) even the customers we were sat next to had mentioned how rude she was.
I returned to the pub today as like I said the food was very nice, however when I entered the pub today there was loads of dogs in there and they were all barking- of course my dog had a bark as she was excited to see the other dogs. We’d not even made it to a table when the manager marched over to the door and begin to shout GET OUT YOU AND YOUR DOG GET OUT! What sort of place do you think this is. I replied it’s supposed to be a dog friendly pub and told the manager to f*k off and left (maybe I shouldn’t of swore but after the terrible service from the previous day I was very annoyed) I was stood outside of the pub waiting for my mum, gran and grandad to leave with the other dogs. The manager then came outside and told me once again get out get away, which I advised him I was waiting for my family. I was absolutely embarrassed as my dog is so friendly and has just been made out to be a monster and the manager spoke to me with zero respect at all!!!!! A customer that was in the pub even came out to apologise for me having to leave as her dog was the one initially barking and set all the other dogs off.
The manager made a very snotty comment that the pub wasn’t like the rest of the run down ones in Whitby- which I feel is a disgusting comment to make as a community should be promoting other pubs and not putting them down. I will not be returning to this pub and I would advise you not to if you have a dog too!
