Amazing Botswana
We had an absolutely amazing time in Botswana on a small group tour with Wildlife Trails. Allan has obviously been organising safaris for many years as the itinerary was perfect, varied and with so much time out in the field spotting wildlife. He arranged an excellent driver / guide, an expert tracker who always seemed to take us to the right spot at the right time.
We noted at least 30 different mammals and 105 bird species, 92 of were "lifers" for us, plus of course reptiles like crocs and water monitor lizards. Probably even more as it's not easy keeping count when you are surrounded by such fantastic game viewing.
We spent a long time with a cheetah coalition of 2 brothers, and with a young female leopard. A lioness and her 3 tiny cubs, just a few weeks old, casually strolled right alongside our jeep. We saw wild dog puppies around their den, and another pack of adults out hunting. A giraffe suckling her calf, just day's old. Two male lion brothers reuniting and greeting each other like kittens right in front of our eyes. There were herds of elephant families, hippo, wildebeest, so many different antelope. Just totally amazing every single time we ventured out in the jeep.
We stayed in 4 different areas over 10 days, in accommodation ranging from a basic but very comfortable wild camp, where we heard hyena and lions roaring at night, to a friendly, community run guest house just a short drive from the wildlife, to a private lodge with wild dogs and elephant wandering through, before finishing up in a lovely hotel right on the Chobe river, where we had both a sunrise and sunset cruise.
Every detail was carefully planned and delivered, with some surprises added along the way, like a scenic flight over the Okavango Delta, and a mokoro canoe safari.
If you want to maximise your wildlife viewings, we would most definitely recommend Allan at Wildlife Trails to design the perfect safari for you.
