Review summary

Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many customers found the sales process easy, with some highlighting helpful and polite staff members who made the experience pleasant and pressure-free. Several people appreciated the quick transaction times and cars being well-prepared for collection, including servicing and cleaning. However, a significant number of people were dissatisfied with the quality of the products and the after-sales contact. Many reported receiving cars with faults, some even breaking down shortly after purchase, and issues like missing logbooks or spare keys. Attempts to contact the company for repairs or to address these problems were often met with unresponsiveness, ignored emails, or unhelpful customer service, leading to frustration and additional costs for independent repairs.

Great service

Purchased a Renault Megane from Williams Motor Company this week. I have been looking at the car for a while now, took the plunge and made my interest clear. The company have been nothing short of amazing. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them. They sent me a walk around video via WhatsApp which was great. Tom, who took the video was extremely good, was open and honest about any faults, if any. The car did have an extremely minor scratch on the front, but Williams Motor Company sorted this for me with no issues at all. The car was extremely clean upon arriving at the garage.
So far, the car has been great. Drives extremely well and I am so happy with it. Thank you!

Truly terrible company that sold me a car that they knew wasn't fit to drive , broke down on motorway 25 minutes after collecting, no log book or spare key on collecting . I had to take time off work and pay for my local ford garage to fix the issues as Williams Motors wouldn't collect the car and fix it . This was last November and still isn't fit for purpose and the spare key and logbook issues just ignored. Be very careful.

Took two payments instead of a Refund

If I could leave less than one star I would.
Car was purchased in August and the company claimed to have the engine light warning fixed by time or car pickup.
Car dumped oil out of it from pickup due to a non tightened screw.
Car then had the same engine light issue which they would not take the car back without proof.
After fighting to have the car taken back they kept the car from the 16th dec to 20th Jan with little to no communication on the repair.
Then they claimed they couldn’t find the car and at the point I perused a refund they claimed the car was unfixable.
I submitted for a refund which they said would take up to 14 days.
At 14 days they improperly asked for a refund with card details and then took another payment for the car.
They then initially refused to give BOTH payments back until I threatened legal action.
The worst company to ever buy a car from. Extreme incompetence, ignorance and blatant stupidity.
Do not give this company your bank details as they will charge your card.

Cowboy car garage

I saw they had a vauxhal meriva for sale low milage looked in pretty good condition on the website. Made the 2hour journey up to see it. The lady I dealt with was professional, friendly putting me at ease no pressure to buy it. Did the test drive noticed a few little things while out ( gear stick had a few chunks out of it, lock button worn) she agreed these would be fixed on pick up in 2 weeks time. Sorted out the deposit etc and away we went. Went back to collect the car had my family with me. Got to the garage gear stick had been changed the sales man said sorry we didn't have time to sort the lock button so we have used a marker pen to colour it in and we have noticed the radio won't work now. None of this was mentioned the day before pick when they rang to check we were still coming. He said once home get it fixed at a car garage locally and we will foot the bill. Alarm bells should have started to ring then but I just wanted to get home having 3 kids in tow. Off we went got about 12miles down the road and an alarm started going off. Googled the code- thermostat issues. Ring them straight up- they agreed for me to take it straight back and they would have a look at it (a little garage they use over the road) get there to be told they couldnt get it looked at there and then. Think I spoke with the main boss explained we are 2hours from home with no way of getting back and go on holiday. He said its ok use the courtesy car ( red corsa) threw £100 at me told me to treat the kids on holiday. We had to use this as petrol money as the courtesy car was on red!! Driving home the corsa started to judger once home something didnt feel right so I checked its details out- no mot/road tax!!! Anyway after our holiday i rang for an update to be told its still in the garage someone will ring me back with an update. This went on for 2 weeks nobody could give me an answer or ring me back so I literally rang them 3/4 times a day and it got to the point where I knew I had been done over. I threatened them with legal proceedings or they would be reported and this still didnt get my car fixed. In the end I demanded a full refund and only once it had gone back into my account they would get the corsa back. My partner had to make the risky drive back up with the corsa as they refused to send a lowloader out to collect it.
A few weeks later i searched the car on google and it was up for auction so they obviously couldnt fix the fault....I would never ever trust these people ever again. Makes me feel sick that they did this to me and no doubt have screwed vulnerable/old people out of lots of money. Surprised they havent been shut down with the amount of negative reviews they have had or been investigated. If you want to buy a car please stay well clear of this place!!!

If there was 0 stars I would choose…

If there was 0 stars I would choose that.
My advice to anyone thinking of buying a car from this company is DON’T!!!!
I bought a car on finance with a warranty. After 3 weeks the engine light came on.
I was advised to get a quote for repairs and get back to them. Garages politely refused to give me a quote as they have done warranty repairs in the past and not been paid. I paid £50 for someone to come to the house to do a diagnostic check on it. The guy wrote a report stating that it was the catalytic converter and advised me not to drive it as the wet belt had cracks in and could snap at any time.
I submitted the report and explained that I haven’t been able to get a quote.
Two weeks later I am left with a car that I bought in good faith that is not fit for purpose. They refuse to progress until I have given them a quote. This has caused me a lot of unnecessary stress that today I have asked for my car to returned, they will need a tow truck and I will be terminating the contact which I am within my rights to do so.
Don’t risk it buying a car from here! It will cost you more than money.

Please avoid!!

Please avoid!!!
I unfortunately never did my research on this 'company' & part ex my car for one of theirs. They did not settle my finance, which left me in debt with a finance company. I had to keep paying the extra amounts because if not my credit score was being affected and as a young girl trying to get credit it's not ideal. I had to pay for 2 cars because this company were clearly waiting for my car that they had for sale ( with out standing finance which is highly illegal!!) to sell, to use the money & settle my finance. I had the finance
Company on my back, this company lied and lied. Every single day me or my family called and they said ' I've passed to accounts' then it's paid, allow time !! I was on the phone to the finance & these every single day. When they said they had paid, they then told my finance company the date was 5 days later and it was only when the finance company applied pressure - they paid out.

They are a terrible 'company' do not care about the customers, act illegal ( selling with outstanding finance) , lie to the customer, very rude on the phone esp the accounts team that you only get if they call you otherwise you can't get hold off.

Trading standards are aware. Disgusting.

Don’t waste your time!

Don’t waste your time - because I did. Drove all the way up to Crewe to see a couple of cars, turned out only to be one because they sold one of them and failed to tell me - I only realised because I happened to double check their website.

Even though the write up for the car involved the word “Wow”, it turned out to be wow for all the wrong reasons. On driving up I was told that the car is “warts and all” ie hasn’t been prepped but would be if I buy. They brought the car out for me to view and it was a mess. Sandpapered marks on the bonnet, bonnet out of alignment with one wing so clearly something wrong there, an odd structural sound every time you shut the doors and a lumpy engine sound.

I handed back the keys and left. What a total waste of time and I’d recommend you avoid, even if it means paying a bit more elsewhere (like I just did)

DO NOT USE!!

DO NOT USE!!! Awful company! If your reading this thinking well every company will have bad reviews I’m sure it will be fine, that’s exactly what I thought and it’s been a disaster!! Brought a car within 24-48 hours the car was undeliverable, spoke to after sales who are useless waited 2 months for a repair and only got that after going through my finance company who took matters into there own hands and made them. They kept trying to get me to pay for the diagnostics and recover back to there site. I said that’s breaking the consumer act 2015 they said they wasn’t. After getting legal advice turns out I was right and they was wrong. Car was ‘fixed’ came to pick it up drive it home within 24 hours straight back to been undriveable again. Phoned up and back to square one, they said I needed to pay for a diagnostics, baring in mind I was still waiting for the diagnostics report they apparently did and we’ve already gone through this about me not having to pay and they said they was sending me the diagnostics report from the last time so obviously not even done one. They had the chance to sort it didn’t and now I’ve had to reject the car. Absolute chancers and will do everything they can to get out of repairs. If you buy from this company and have any issues they will make it as hard as possible even if that means breaking your legal rights

Terrible after sales
My daughter brought a car and part exchanged her vehicle with them only to now find out they have not even settled her old finance which is still outstanding nearly 6 weeks later
When you try and contact them they say they have paid this but are clearly lying as the old finance comped not received any payment which is causing a lot of stress to my daughter who already has health problems
The people who deal with the accounts at this garage are rude and liars so avoid at all costs and also currently have my daughters old car for sale on there forecourt and website with outstanding finance owing

Terrible . avoid wasting your hard-earned money and time

Where do I even start with Williams Motor Company?

The customer service is terrible, and the owner couldn’t care less once they’ve taken your money. I was sold a car advertised as having full service history, only to later discover that the most recent four years of servicing were missing.

The vehicle also came with a “full 12 months MOT,” which I now believe to be fraudulent. It listed no advisories at all, despite an independent inspection later identifying numerous issues, including worn brakes and discs, a track rod end fault, and anti-roll bar D bushes. When I raised this with the garage, I was told it was down to the MOT tester’s “discretion” whether to list these faults or not — which is frankly unacceptable.

I have tried multiple times to reject the vehicle and return it ( within my 30 days consumer rights act of 2015 ) due to it having faults and not being of Satisfactory quality but each time I’m met with dismissive behaviour and laughter over the phone. There is absolutely no willingness to take responsibility or resolve the situation.

How this company is still in business is beyond me. A complete waste of time — cowboys, unprofessional, and a true disappointment.

Terrible After Sales and Warranty

Cannot recommend this company based on the after sales and warranty experience.

My daughter purchased her first car here (Smart Four for) which had some obvious issues but the sales team fixed them prior to sale.

Unfortunately 2 months later the car needed a replacement starter motor (these things happen).
We contacted the after sales team who told us to just take it to a local garage to get the fault diagnosed and email the assessment quote to Williams.

We called around to find a garage that would take a warranty repair and was given a price for diagnostic and assessment. We contacted Williams again who advised that this would be at our own cost even though they were the ones advising us to do it and surely if it was brought to their own garage that wouldn't be the case unless the fault was non warranty related, the young man at the other end of the phone was very uncertain as to why this was and it came across as though he didn't really know much at all
We bit he bullet as it was a long way to Crewe (approx 50miles)
We emailed the assessment through advising it needed a new starter motor at £550 incl labour.
A couple of days later due to management illness etc we received an email to say the starter motor wasn't covered by warranty but they offered £275 in good faith. (Makes you wonder how many times they get away with this)
We phoned them to advise this wasn't acceptable as their warranty paperwork states under section 6 that a starter motor is covered, the after sales manager advised she couldn't talk to me about this so I offered her to speak to my daughter who was distraught at this but she would only state that if we want it reassessed to put it in an email and even hung up on me while I was trying to get some sense regarding this situation.

We sent the dispute and a complaint in writing as well as a copy of their own warranty documentation stating it was covered.

I'm guessing that whoever had made the first offer decided that doubling down would be his best option rather than admitting that they were liable as they returned an email advising they couldn't cover the labour costs but would send us a new starter motor costing £175.

Several emails later pointing out that no warranty expects a customer to fit the part themselves and that they were breaching their own warranty contract and they either fixed it at their own garage if they didn't like the labour costs or they paid the quoted amount to the garage they requested we use in the first place.

Eventually they agreed to pay the quoted amount to the garage but never once apologised for any stress caused to my daughter who had been without a car for several weeks, their own attitudes whilst this was resolved or even any admittance or fault.

I feel sorry for anyone else who tries to use the warranty service with Williams as they obviously try to get out of their own contract as your expense.

Cannot recommend due to this.

DO NOT BUY FROM HERE

Bought a Range Rover sport from here. 30 minutes into the drive home the car went into limp mode and restricted performance. Informed them immediately and they offered to potentially repair it if I got a diagnostic on it. Luckily, the town I live in has a Land Rover specialist who was able to plug it in and told me the turbos had gone and it would likely be a £4000+ repair job. Made a decision to reject the car the following day and suddenly Williams motor company goes very quiet! Returned the vehicle 2 days after that as they were refusing to respond to me. Now two weeks after returning the vehicle they have only just carried out their own inspection (surprise surprise - no faults found apparently) but haven’t been able to supply me with their diagnostic report. Now they are sending it to an “independent garage” to be inspected. I’m down my deposit, the £249 I paid for an extended warranty and I’m due to make the first finance payment in a couple of days on a car I have driven for 4 days with a fault. Lovely!

Got a Land Rover discovery from them in…

Got a Land Rover discovery from them in October 2025. With my first long journey after purchase the car had a break down and the RAC rescue couldn’t fix it there and then. I have sent the car to Williams Motors to help look into it. It’s been with them for over a week now.
How soon they fix it and how well will determine my next and final review.
The customer service initially responded to call but rudely and sharply.
Both the RAC and the finance company’s independent reports established that the fault was before the sale. Still, the dealership has refused to fix the car for over 3 months now.
As at nearly mid March 2026, they have kept the car with them for over 3 months now, without fixing it. No calls or emails.
What a company! What a customer service!

The hand over was seamless and so very pleased. I had a 134 mile trip home. Rain poring down and very busy roads but this car was like sitting in a armchair observing the world going by
