Well done.

I am overjoyed that your Crawley store recently fixed my daughters laptop. Well done.

Winthrop Australia: a dodgy rip off shop on University campus !

Students at the University of WA need to be aware that the Apple subsidiary Winthrop Australia, that is in the guild complex on their campus is a rip off without warning.
My daughter brought her 2015 Macbook there for a battery as the Winthrop shop is mentioned on the Apple website as a subsidiary for repairs and parts. The battery was not charging anymore after 4 years, hardly a surprise. The person took her computer and charged 66$ for a test of the computer. A week later an email came that they had found it needed at new battery (yeah, right). The quote came as well: 528 $$. Plus the 66$ On the Apple website the battery is stated to cost 289 $ (all in) at any Apple shop. A nice 290 $ extra ! When she protested, the price came down to 409 $ plus the 66 $ test fee, as it was explained that initially the high quote was based on the fact that also a new bottom case came with the battery. Since this was incorrect, no bottom case required, the price was reduced to 409 $ plus 66$. Still an unacceptable price, and 186 $ more than at Apple. The manager got involved, this time explaining that the battery was expensive because (new story again) the battery indeed came with a new bottom case. So who was making stories up here ? Another email later, the manager offered a 50 $ reduction but insisted on her paying 133$ more for the battery than at Apple. The reason given was that it was clearly stated on websites that they were more expensive than Apple for the same product. I could not find anywhere such statement.
It is just beyond belief, that Winthrop Australia in the first instance tries to rip off a young, financially not well of student for 100% more than the Apple price 289 $. A 66 $ test was paid for to confirm our request for a new battery.
Suffices to say that we paid this greedy organisation their 66$ battery-empty-confirmation fee and took the computer to Apple.
I hate to think how many students at UWA have been ripped off of the few dollars they have.
UWA and the guild should do something about this.
