Bedroom leak for over 5 years

We’ve been dealing with a leak in our bedroom for over five years, and after seeing someone else mention the same problem here, I felt I had to share our story too.

It started back in 2020, with a yellowish discoloration in one corner of the wall. When we called WonenBreburg, they told us it was caused by “not opening the window enough to let humidity out.” Over time, the wall began to deteriorate and water actually started dripping down, only then did they acknowledge it was a real leak. Even so, it took them an extremely long time to take any real action.

Since then, new yellow spots have appeared in other parts of the ceiling, and about a year ago, the ventilation shaft began dripping heavily, right next to our baby’s bed. Despite repeated calls and requests for help (and even asking for a temporary change of apartment), nothing has been done. They send people to “take a look,” but no one actually fixes the problem. Every time we call, we just hear, “We’re sorry.”

Meanwhile, we continue paying full rent, with no compensation or urgency from their side. We wake up at night from the sound of dripping, and keep a bucket under the ceiling every single day. Our floor is damaged beyond repair, but worse than that is the emotional stress of living like this, especially with a child who wakes up crying from the noise. Even worse, I even almost slipped holding my baby because I didn’t realize there was a pond of water on the floor from a second ventilation shaft, that started a few months ago. Can you imagine? TWO leaks!

I’m writing this at 2 a.m., awake again because of the dripping.

The location is perfect and you can have fun as an exchange student. Unfortunately there are problems of safety (homeless go into the house and drug trafficking in the parkings), there is no security system installed and the cleaners do not do their job 80% of the time. The company seems to not care or not intervene at least.

Discrimination

Wonenbreburg also have student housing, but right now we are fighting with them - as they exclude people with disabilities. I hope it´s an misunderstanding and they just did´nt know any better. An young autistic girl has an Approved Servicedog so she have the opportunity to participate in some of the things other young people do. In this case, being an exchange student in the Netherlands. Despite the legislation being COMPLETELY clear on Servicedogs, they are now denying her, with illegal arguments that she is not allowed to live in the student accommodation. Everything is paid for, we have visited the Netherlands with her to give her the autistic predictability, she and another autistic friend are going together and have an apartment side by side. Everything was ready and Anne-Sofie was delighted... So now we fight.
