Thoughts on this course

I am in the middle of this course. I would say the materials are very good (even if the tone is a bit patronising at times - many references to 'beginner writers') and it's good value at the excellent groupon price I paid for it. BUT I would say it's a text book/manual rather than a course given that there is no expectation or requirement for any writing to be done at all and no provision for any feedback on writing, even peer feedback. Therefore at full price I would say it falls well short of a 'writing course'.

A kick in the butt in the right direction

I have always wanted to write a book for children. I have had many ideas, gone back and fourth, and just never done anything with it. With the help of this course, I have managed to get a structure around my ideas and actually start mapping out the plots and different charaters I want to include; I have managed to actually get centered and focused, not jsut daydreaming about it. By me finding a structure and support though this course, I have been able to find my creative inspiration and drive. I now make time, even in the midst of my busy schedule, to take my time to sit down and just be with myself and my book. I have found that finding that time has given me more peace and energy to take on my other duties in life. It has also been amazing having an opportunity to elarn something new that can aid in my creative process and hopefully the compeltion of a book.
Thanks for all the support and knowledge i gained from this course. I will sure be back to revisit in case i forget something.

Inspiration Foundation

I have been an educator of young children since 1988. I cannot imagine how many books I have read aloud. It is my passion. I took this course to see if I could also write for this age group of 5-7. This course was very helpful for me to hone in on my desires and what I would be 'getting myself into'. I loved how it was a my pace. I loved how I could start, and pick up where I left off. I am very inspired to begin my first book (animal antics) as we have a farm. I can see it! It is on the horizon. I know my choices and challenges. Thanks a lot!

It was more than I expected and would have been worthwhile at full price

There has been a story bouncing inside of my head for over thirty years. I've lost the original manuscript twice, but the story still wanted to come out. I have sent articles to magazines a dozen times over thirty years with short pieces having nothing to do with the story in my head. All were rejected, and now I know why.
I had actually finished my first story and was in the process of editing it when I found a GroupOn coupon. I did a little research and the program sounded worthwhile and so I bought the coupon and after four months of delays caused by good and bad excuses and reasons (where excuses are what you blame on things outside of yourself and reasons are things for which you take responsibility) I got started.
By the seventh module, I quit working on my second book and began looking at the editing of my first one with a new eye.
Because of an injury, I have been able to spend a great deal more time on the course and today, I finished it. I have copious notes to guide me through my books.
It needs to be said that my books would garner a pg-13 rating at best. There are some scenes worthy of an R or M due to violence or sexual content. However, I have been taking notes for a children's book as I make up songs to sing to my grandson.
This course may be targeted at young people, but the information transcends ages. It is applicable to nearly every author I've ever read.
For reasons beyond my control, I can't sign up for some of the other courses WSBC offers, but even if I sell my first book before being able to do so, I will return to this company. It is also my intention to acknowledge WSBC in the first book I publish, as it is because of them, that I KNOW I will be able to do those things necessary to be a successful author.
I tell my friends who ask that when I write, it is like a road-trip from Key West in Florida to a Fishing Pier sticking out into the Pacific Ocean in California. I know where I'm starting, and I know where I want to finish my drive, but I have no idea what is going to happen along the way.
WSBC has given me a map and a way of planning my journey in ways I'd not considered. I am enormously grateful and encourage ANYONE who seriously wants to become an author without attending hours and hours of classroom study under an instructor to sign up for this course. If you have the drive, WSBC can help you on your journey.
With much appreciation and respect,
Charles Downs

I loved this course.

I was really excited when I saw this course offered, I have always loved reading to my children and the joy it brought their faces when they were small to hear these stories. So now I hope after taking this course I can create a story that will bring joy to other children as well.
Excellent course, lots of valued information and great tips on how to create a story for all ages.

A Lot of Knowledge

This course was definitely packed full of knowledge and helpful hints. A little too long in some modules. I enjoyed it and learned a lot but would have preferred a bit more on the practical part of writing rather than all the details on making a promo video, etc.

Fab!

This course was very well presented, informative and enjoyable. As a teacher by profession both of primary age and special needs I thoroughly enjoyed learning more about story writing. It is my desire to write a children's story book and this course has stimulated my enthusiasm!
I would recommend this course to others and found it highly professional and much better than I had anticipated.

Invaluable Resource

I've just started to become interested in writing books but was getting stuck. This course was very comprehensive and I now have a lot to consider as I move forward. It also opened my eyes to the large number of options that writers have for distributing their work and communicating with readers.

Writing for Children

I thoroughly enjoyed this course. The information was useful and very well presented. It was motivational and filled with ideas to help those of us who wish to be full-time writers.

The only thing that I wasn't pleased with was that I missed out on purchasing the accompanying textbook. By the time I had read the email whilst sitting on the train to work and opened my computer at work to make the purchase, it was all sold out. I'm hoping to be faster the next time I see it advertised.

Great resource, great for aspiring authors.

This course was very enjoyable and I learned a lot. It is very helpful in choosing the genre, age group, and title of your book. It also has valuable information about publishing.
Though there weren't as many tips about revising as I hoped, I realize it is more pointed towards those who are publishing and thus hiring a revisor. I learnt a lot about self publishing though and this was a wonderful course. It also was very nice that they added modules as I was working through it for job extra cost.
I would definitely recommend this course!

Worth more than I paid.

I found the course very enjoyable. It was writtten in a manner easy to receive and sets a very good foundation for a person wanting to write. If a person were to take this course first, I believe they could save themselves lots of mistakes and trouble. Having said all that, it would have been nice if the couse provided lessons or practice sesssions that could have been submitted for review or suggestions. Perhaps another course but this course was well worth my time. It gave me a foundation before starting on a project and having to start all over because I wouldn't have known what I was doing.
