Condescending accountants

These people are condescending. The clerical work they do to rent the homes is efficient but that is where it stops. They don't get their butts of the couch to inspect the properties, they use 3ed party reports. The end results, they rent run down, filthy, dilapidated properties. They would last no time at all if this industry were legislated by an authority. They have a holier than thou attitude.

The cottage is perfect for us

We booked Coral Cottage in Whitby - it is perfect for us. This is our 2nd visit in Nov and we've just booked a 3rd. It's close to the harbour and a few minutes walk to the Abbey steps etc but still quiet! The cottage is comfortable, with all you need and with a nice feel but the crowning glory for us is the roof terrace - private views of harbour and Abbey! The vertically split front door, narrow hall and curving wooden stairs, two flights to main bedroom, might make it challenging if you have mobility problems. But we just love it, it's a real find. Owner and company were responsive when needed.

Non-existent complaints handling

This review is not so much for the property which I booked which wasn't good, but for the booking company who haven't dealt with my complaint.
I booked Captain's Cabin in Whitby, which was dirty (someone elses used boxers and socks under the bed, sort of dirty). There were other issues, such as claiming there was an enclosed garden, complimentary bath products and unlimited Wifi, none of which were true about the property. I would never have booked it without the wifi especially.
I complained about this three times (twice in the shop in person and once on the phone) and had a response three weeks later from Sally to say I should have complained about it while I was there (I did - three times). They offered me £50 as a "goodwill gesture" and asked me to confirm this was suitable. I responded that it wasn't suitable, yet they refunded £50 anyway without any more communication and have obviously closed my complaint.
The tone of Sally's email was terrible, rude and condescending, and little understanding of grammar or complaints handling.
I wouldn't use this company to book a holiday again. It's okay if your property is a good one, but if it isn't, be prepared to spend your holiday trying to contact them and then be told you haven't. It beggars belief, really.
High-end prices for budget holidays with no customer services.
Update January 2024, I have asked on several occasions to speak to a manager and then for them to let me know the contact details of their governing body to try and resolve the dispute, but they have ignored every single email. Do not use these people who clearly have no respect for their customers.
Small claims court it must be, then. What a shame.

Modern but serious damp problem

The property had been renovated and was clean and well equipped. Unfortunately , however, there was a serious damp issue in one bedroom, including mould on the mattress which affected the asthma of one of the adults which meant he had to sleep on the sofa in the living room. We contacted the property owners but unfortunately, they chose not to respond or give any assurances that this would be dealt with

We arrived for a weeks stay at…

We arrived for a weeks stay at Lowergill farmhouse on 14th October 2023z From the outside the house was lovely, first impressions were all good. Garden lovely, new furniture in the back garden and a little gate that leads to the river at the back. Large size kitchen that was suitable for our large family.

Going into detail however:

THE BEDROOMS - they were a good size with three rooms that had en-suites. The rooms were in need of a good dust/vacuum! There were cobwebs and spiders EVERYWHERE. Not just in the corners of the room but all around the windows etc.

SHOWERS - After using the showers, we quickly realized that the showers leak! we had to use our small white towels that were provided to put down to stop the floor from being soaked.

With being newly fitted bathrooms, we did not expect the mould we had on our ceiling of one of the ensuites - it was really bad. The drains smell so bad - every time you run the shower/tap etc it gave off the worst smell.

THE BEDS!! There is nothing good I can say about the beds in any of the rooms. None of us slept a wink the whole week and definitely came away feeling more tired than when we went. They were so noisy that a simple turn in bed made the beds squeak so loud. Very uncomfortable also. There were stains on the mattresses that had been covered up with a mattress protectors.

THE KITCHEN - great size like I said above, but again there were spiders everywhere! It was well equipped but the trays etc for cooking were rusty and could do with replacing. The kettles and toasters were very old. One kettle didn’t work and the other when boiled poured out either bits of rust or limescale! Leaving us having to boil water in pots for cups of tea.

APPLIANCES - Double oven but only one side works to its best. The other side takes forever to heat up but I would imagine that is because the door does not close properly.

The washing machine gave off a horrible damp smell which resulted in clothes smelling the same. The tumble dryer stopped working, which we had to contact the owners for, but they did offer to let us use the industrial tumble dryer instead.

The sitting room was spacious but from someone that suffers from allergies, I could not sit in there without having a flare up due to the dust. The sofas were so old and VERY uncomfortable! Each seat had large dents in them.

THE GAMES ROOM - the games room was good, kids/adults loved it - everyone got a time slot so had this to ourselves within these times

THE POOL!! - kids absolutely loved having the pool but it needs updated! 7 of our family members cut their fingers and feet on the broken tiles! The pool wasn’t clean, you could feel dirt at the bottom and area surrounded the pool could do with a deep clean/update. There were dead flies in it if you got the first session. There was one small changing room for a family of 12… the kids still did enjoy having the pool though and could be amazing if updated.

If you get the late session for swimming (6-8pm) then the paths leading back to the houses are pitch black and when I say this I mean not a light in sight! It’s pretty scary, even with our phone torches we could hardly see where we were going! The way some cars drive up and down that hill (particularly a red golf, which we gathered must have been a family member of the owners), that could end in disaster!

THE OWNERS - the owners were helpful. We had text to ask to borrow an extension cable and it was delivered within an hour of asking.

The area around the house was nice enough.

Overall we wouldn’t go back, which is such a shame as it has great potential.

Slightly misleading

Lovely cottage we stayed in and booking was very easy. Not many recommendations in the place for things to do walks, eating, shopping or sight seeing. Would have been good to have some more local info. Also website did not say anything about how many stairs there were in the property or how difficult the parking would be. Property also looked a lot bigger in the pictures. However thoroughly enjoyed our stay and was easy to book but would be a bit more thorough and find out more about the property next time!
