We concluded our three-week journey through southern Africa with a three-day stay at Tongabezi Lodge, and it was superb in every respect. Set on the Zambian side of the Zambezi River near Victoria Falls, the lodge felt like something out of a film. The property was exceptional, and our accommodation in particular was truly first-rate. The meals were varied, abundant, and consistently excellent. For the duration of our stay, we were assigned both a valet and a guide, and together they took extraordinary care of us. Our valet, Cornilius, went out of his way to ensure our comfort, including arranging a surprise moonlit dinner on our patio in celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary. He also organized a private lunch for two aboard a boat as we cruised the Zambezi, watching wildlife along both the Zambian and Zimbabwean shorelines. Our guide and driver, Brian, was equally outstanding. Drawing on his deep knowledge of the area and our interests, he created a tailor-made itinerary that included a helicopter flight over Victoria Falls, visits to the falls from both the Zambian and Zimbabwean sides, the private lunch cruise, and a sunset river cruise. At our request, Brian also arranged a visit to a local village and school, which proved especially moving. As experienced international travelers, we would rank our stay at Tongabezi Lodge among the very finest—if not the finest—travel experiences we have ever had. Close to Victoria Falls but far enough away. Great accodation on the Zambezi. Sunset cruise a nice experience. Quiet and great view.
Moroccan style accommodations with your private infinity pool overlooking a river.
Amazing place, great staff and management, and they even have a private school for 250 orphaned and needy children. I especially thank Marc--the manager, Evans, my butler, and Emma who runs the school.
Our stay at Tongabezi Lodge was great. The "hut" they provided us with was located right on the river and was the most exotic and beautiful room we have ever stayed in. 5 star all the way. The people at Tongabezi were exceptional in performance of their duties from the manager on down all first rate. They made us feel like royalty in every way. It should be noted that they are renovating several facilities, but this had no effect on our stay. They are located about 20 miles from the Falls and provide a guide when you want to visit it. They also help set up excursions, provide sunset river cruises, fishing etc. Writing about it makes me want to go back!
