badly let down
I have been a client of Yorkshire Accountancy for several years and my experience has left me extremely disappointed.
I repeatedly sought help regarding my National Insurance contributions and the effect they could have on my State Pension. As my accountant was my only professional adviser, I relied on the firm for guidance on tax-related matters.
When I raised concerns, I was not simply told that this was outside their remit. Instead, I was told they would help. for a few years, a member of staff confirmed they would contact HMRC on my behalf and stated that a letter had been sent regarding voluntary National Insurance contributions. I later discovered there was no evidence that this letter had been received or acted upon.
Over the years I repeatedly asked for assistance because I knew my National Insurance record was not up to date. It was only much later that I fully understood the potential impact this could have on my future pension entitlement.
What has disappointed me most is not just the situation itself, but the response when I raised a formal complaint. Rather than accepting any responsibility for agreeing to assist with the matter, the firm's response was to deny liability completely and refer to terms and conditions. In my view, if something is outside an accountant's remit, that should be made clear at the time the client asks for help, not after the problem has arisen.
I trusted this firm as my professional adviser and feel badly let down
