Great staff, but lack of small units

Staff are very friendly and helpful, they've never let me down.

It's only a 1 month minimum tenancy with 7 days notice (I think) which is great for us as we don't know how long we'll need it for before we move. As long as we don't suddenly get asked to vacate at an inconvenient time, then all good for us!

The location is ideal for us as we're regularly driving past.

Accessing our storage unit can be a hassle at times. The outside building is padlocked, and I have to walk around to the front desk to ask someone to help me get in. There is also sometimes a forklift parked in front of my unit, further impeding access. I also have the smallest unit currently available (I've been waiting for a smaller unit for a while now) and it's far too big and expensive for our needs. The shortage of smaller units is a shame.

I'd definitely upgrade to 5 stars if there were smaller units available.

Update 20/03/2023 I've finally been given the opportunity to downsize to a much more appropriate space, and thus, I've upgraded to 5 stars. I'm still disappointed I had to pay so much for far too large of a unit for a couple of months, but at least I can save for all the future months.

This company is run by a director who doesn’t seem to have customer service skills. You only need to read the reviews to be aware of his character. 🚨

To back this up do a search of his name which you can find on company house and you will see his violent past. KBH

We unfortunately crossed paths on a business matter and it has been nothing but hassle. We are going into civil proceedings so I’m afraid I can’t comment any further at present although I’m more than sure he will entertain you with his reply, deflecting & minimising and passing the blame which he specialises in.

He asked for our company details within 2 minutes he put a review up calling us FRAUD* THIS IS NOT A GENUINE COMPANY. Festive Trees does not exist!

We are filing court proceedings against this person and company for defamation of character and refuse any more conversations with him due to his rude & arrogant nature.

I took great time to read reviews previously left on here and Google and digested them and reflected on my own personal experience with the manager Kbh at Zelf.

One thing that really stands out to me that you should also be aware of is how he deflects and minimises any negative reviews and also in written conversation to me he said the following:

“Iv'e been in business a long time Laura and know my way around commercial liabilities”

This on is own raises alarm bells when dealing with such a company. 🚨

I would also potentially question the authenticity of the positive reviews. However that is for you to decide. I’m merely just putting it out there as a suggestion.

I always believe reviews should be honest and truthful and never misleading.

I have gave you my honest option backed up by the points given as my experience with Zelf and the director KBH.

This guy is crazy! Please read the newspaper link he attached to his updated review and our reply is in the article.

He lives in a fairytale land thinking he got us closed down 😂. We stopped trading through personal issues he’s really got issues unfortunately.

He alledges we are scammers to grab attention, it’s really strange as I’ve never heard of scammers sending products and spending money and donating £1000 to charity over his obsession with us.

He thinks we are some serious fraudulent company when the fact is we only sold wholesale to this company nobody else.

Your story you portray is flawed and doesn’t hold up to scrutiny whatsoever.

If anyone is a conman it’s you judging by your reviews on here and Google.

This company says they will sue us. They won't quite simply because if they did they would have to confirm their real names, their real address and there is no way on earth they are going to do that.

This is a fake review. Festve Trees Ltd are not who they say they are, the people that run it are not who they say they are.

They do not exist on Companies house, they are not VAT registered, they are not in the physical locations they state that they are. They have defrauded Zelf for over £11k for trees we were selling for charity and the cyber Crime and Fraud team are now investigating matters thankfully. These people are extremely evasive, controlling and manipulative. They owe us, private customers and their suppliers thousands. Trust Pilot have been asked to remove this fake and false review.

Worst feeling or experience I had…

Worst feeling or experience I had during my recent remivals with Zelf company. They even took a 5 days to complete my removal, which should be happen within a day as per agreement. The crew came to pack our stuffs was so inconpetent in their job and their handling was so poor that they broke or damaged one of my chest drawer whole loading it in the van. Regarding the issue I tried to contact the company but no one is goving any response or feedback about this matter. So I am completely unhappy with the Zelf removal and suggest to think before to use this company.

London to Marlborough move

I decided to go with Zelf as they were local to Marlborough and the move went extremely well. Aaron and Paul were brilliant - they were very efficient, very quick at loading and unloading the van and good-natured too. I would definitely recommend Zelf as a removal company.

Happy to recommend

Moved out of our house into a rented flat for six months whilst we found a house to buy in Devon. We settled on Zelf for the assured security at their storage facility. When the time came to bring the first half of our furniture etc. Paul and Darren arrived promptly (earlier than expected) and I welcomed their friendly and calming nature. They were very careful unloading and bringing everything in. Thank you. Sandra

Excellent friendly service

We are very happy with the service provided by Zelf. We were moving my elderly mother from Trowbridge to Portishead. She was visited beforehand and given plenty of advice and information. We had a few delays as to actual date of moving but they kept in touch and were very accommodating with our changes of dates.
On the day, Paul, Darren and Dom came and packed her things and loaded the van very efficiently and were extremely helpful and polite. On arrival they unloaded quickly and took care to place furniture or move it to where she asked.
They also delivered some items to my home and were again most efficient and accommodating.
We were all very pleased with the service and would certainly recommend Zelf removals.

London to Devizes Move.

Zelfi helped me my my items from Kingston to my new home in Devizes on a Saturday. I originally chose Zelfi because they were a local company, but the price and service were great. The guys were friendly and communicated clearly at every point. Super fast and efficient. Nobody wants to move houses that often but if I do then I'll be happy to use these guys again.

Zelf review part 2, warning do not use them

The Damage:
Zelf have broken a very expensive lamp, ruined a silk Habitat lampshade, scuffed my Conrad unit (which they tried to hide by turning it round,) one of my garage units has been broken, the rubber stops on my piano have come off. My Skovby sideboard has been scuffed, a small chunk out of the side and scratch marks to the door, and the door had come off from the runners. A coffee table is broken with a missing leg, and there is also a broken ornament which had great sentimental value. The power supply to my 55” Sony television is missing. There is a scuff mark to one of my mirrors and another has chunks out of the side, there is a further broken ornament and my dinning room chairs have chunks of metal knocked out of them. There are still many boxes to unpack so there may or may not be further damage.
All the broken items that I had discovered at that time were shown to the manager who then photographed some of them.

Zelf’s response:
The following morning, I received an email from Zelf telling me that the broken items had been valued at £43! He informed me that as stated in their terms and conditions they are permitted to search the likes of ebay for a similar item replacement value to offer as compensation.
Breakdown of compensation Zelf offered for my possessions broken by them during the move:

Broken Glass Light Shade £20
Mark on the cabinet £20
Missing rubbers on the piano £3

Zelf also offered me a refund of £200 for the work they had promised to do but didn’t complete, and said that they would refund the overpayment they took from me at the start.

I responded to his email to let him know the actual value of the damaged items and the fact that he had ignored many of them. He responded informing me that he was not prepared to get into negotiations and that as stated in their terms and conditions their insurance covers up to a maximum value of £40 per item damaged!

Estimated cost of using Zelf

The cost to date for removal service has been £7,320 on top of my initial £100 making a total of £7,420. The cost of the damage adds even more:
American style fridge freezer - £1200
The television replacement as a like for like - £2,500
The broken coffee table - £200
Conran Unit - £450
Garage unit - £80
Habitat shade - £80
Lamp bought from TR Hayes in Bath - £350.
Ornaments - irreplaceable (sentimental value!)
Estimated costs for tradespeople to carry out the jobs that Zelf refused to complete - £600.

Assuming that I do not find any further damage, Zelf have so far cost me in the region of £12,880 for this move!
Conclusion
I DO NOT IN ANY WAY RECOMMEND ZELF AS A REMOVALS COMPANY.

I understand that the moving date came at the worst possible time with it being the end of the stamp duty relief period…. BUT that is no excuse for the appalling service and treatment that I received from Zelf.

Zelf’s appalling services, can at best be described as something you would likely see on BBC’s Rogue Traders.

SHOCKING

Edit: since writing this review I have found more damage to my property and the estimate for costs will be much higher.

Very poor service

**EDIT* Dated 22/11/21:
What an absolute pack of lies. The company have tried to covered their back by lying on Trustpilot in reply to me.
In reply to Zelf . The TV company paid for the removal on the 30th October and a month of storage only at an exhorbitant cost of £2,160 (our whole house move cost half that) thankfully we weren't paying. We then continued to pay £173.33 per month from the 1st January until we cleared the unit on the 12th July, I can provide copies of our bank statement and all emails to prove we were paying and the contract was with us. In that time we did NOT enter the unit at all, the CCTV of the site can prove that, we visited the site once on the morning of the 8th December under the supervision of *****, because I was concerned things were damaged after the random visit from your ex employee on the 7th December, he was a young man who lived on the **** Road in ***ham, you have tried to infer we knew him, which we did not. Strange you've forgotten sacking him?
I will be happy to share both our Google maps timelines to prove we did not enter the site until we removed our stuff in July.
When the filming was done, we asked the company to bring back a few boxes which they did on the 4th December as per the contract which I have a copy of.
And finally the most gut wrenching lie, these were precious objects that belonged to my late mother, why would I damage her things? I am an antique dealers daughter. I know how to treat objects, unlike Zelf, all I can say is thank goodness I packed the items and not them as the damage would have run into thousands.
All I wanted was an apology and for you to admit liability .

Very poor service. This company was chosen by a TV company I was working with to put my things into storage.
Once the show was over we took over paying for the storage. Some months later when we opened up our unit I was utterly horrified to see how our boxes were stored. Boxes marked 'Fragile' were put at the bottom of the pile leaving the boxes crushed and many of the contents inside damaged. I also had 4 collectors cases, also marked fragile, every single one had its glass smashed. Also one of the movers was apparently sacked on the day they collected our items, he came to our house a week later with an 18th Century screen of ours, for some inextricable reason, he was storing it in his house?? He said "Things were broken" So I asked to view the unit because I was very concerned about my objects. Unfortunately because it was piled so high, I was not able to see the boxes piled behind, I so wish I had. These were valuable antiques belonging to my late mother. I was going through a traumatic time with her death and a difficult house move and this left me in tears. When I told *** this, he would not accept any responsibility, stating the contract was with the TV company and because it is self store it is not his problem
When the TV company contacted them on my behalf, they told the TV company the contract was with us. They eventually offered me a laughable £5 compensation for one object, despite me sending many photos of the many damaged pieces, they said would fix the glass in the cabinets, but quite frankly I wouldn't trust them with a barge pole.
I was going to pursue this further with my lawyer, but unfortunately I don't have the energy or time.
When I said I was going to give it a poor review he threatened to sure me for defamation. My lawyer assures me, he does not have a leg to stand on with all my evidence

We moved the TV company into storage and they paid the contract the whole way through, you never had a contract with us? You came into the store a few days after we had moved the items in and rearranged the contents and removed/added some items too and because of this we explained that we would no longer be liable for anything inside the unit because you had been in and rearranged the contents. I do not know any reason an ex employee would come to your house unless you knew him or her or had contracted them privately, I am not sure why he or she would 'bad mouth' us unless he or she was upset with the fact that we sacked them, which is quite likely! Due to you entering the unit and having access to it on numerous occasions and then claiming for 'damage' right at the very end there would be no obligation for us to honour any claim whatsoever. I feel it right to point out that you stored you items 'free of charge' whilst the TV company paid for it, then you try and claim for damage that was unlikely caused by us and more than likely caused by your restacking when you entered the unit and for this reason I feel that your review is unfair in context to what actually happened. I hope readers will take onboard that unfortunately we live in a claim culture and this customer not only hid the cost from her employer but also then tried to extract money from us wrongly.

Great people to work with and highly…

Great people to work with and highly recommended. We were moving quite a long distance had some quite unusual items to move and Keith and the team had solutions for everything. Extremely hardworking and pleasant team who took good care of everything and really went above and beyond for us. All this for a very competitive price, too!

A faultless performance

Twice failed to turn up for a quote

Asked for a quote for a removal service from London to Devizes. Keith told me that he would come and do the estimate personally as it would be more accurate than a video call. Fine. He failed to turn up on the day agreed citing bad traffic and then didn’t reply to messages or return calls for over a week. Finally he agreed to come up today at mid morning. No sign of him by midday and again not returning calls or answering text messages. Phoned the office who said he hadn’t even left Devizes. Why couldn’t he just let me know or tell me they didn’t want the business? Instead I wasted two days off work. Appalling customer services and total lack of professionalism. Very annoyed.

Hi Matt, Keith did try and contact you but you were away for a week hence the week delay. He did travel up to you but got stuck 12 miles away and was grid locked by a serious accident hence the reason for turning back. Ref coming to you last week it is a 5hr round trip to come and do your quote and he did stress that he would do it when convenient for him during that week but understandably when he failed to let you know it was frustrating for you. I apologise for the time wasted but he did have every intention of seeing you that is for sure. I wish you all the best with the move.

Brilliant - saved the day and went all out!

Their removal section couldn't do enough to help me. Keith came round the morning I called them, confirmed within an hour that they could do the removal that lunchtime, and did. The two man team were excellent and loaded up/unloaded in record time. I cannot recommend them enough. Truly thankful and will definitely use them again!
