I paid for a group lunch and asked the others (6 friends) to Zelle me their share. My bank (Capital One) put a hold on the second payment and later locked my entire account. It took me 7 phone calls... See more

Delayed payment
Zelle delayed a payment I was supposed to receive on the 15th, even though I had previously received a Sunday payment through the same method without issue. This was my only income after recently being laid off, and because of the delay my car insurance was canceled and I was left without money for necessities.
I contacted my bank, OnPoint Community Credit Union, then was told to contact Zelle directly. The Zelle representative was not helpful, rushed through the call, and I was sent back to my bank again, where I was told Zelle can randomly hold funds for 1–3 days. I spoke with four different people and no one could help release the payment or provide a real solution.
DO NOT USE ZELLE
so if you do not have a bank account that uses Zelle. you are not going to get your money. there is no alternative. so if you sell something and the buyer still gets the item accept they used zelle to pay you...they get there item and you do not get paid. you would think that they would have an alternative...prepaid card...check...nope nope...and do they care? no they do not! terrible platform!! DO NOT USE ZELLE!!!
Anything but Zelle.
This is the absolute worst money transfer app in existence. I hate using it even though it should be convenient since my bank comes with it by default. But there are so many drawbacks to it that make it impossible to use in a flash. PayPal, cashapp, venmo anything is better than this trashapp.
Don’t us Zelle unless you absolutely have to
I am forced to use Zelle in one situation. I prefer Venmo 100%. Last year I successfully sent three installments to one of my children thru Zelle. I wanted to do one but Zelle decided (for my security) I couldn’t send that much. This year, same timeframe I decided to send the same amount and tried to do one payment. Nope again for my security … So I did a payment equal to the one I did in 2025. It went through. 24+ hours later I tried again, this time Zelle decided I couldn’t send that much could only send 1/4 of the payment I made successfully 24 hours before. I tried to contact Zelle for help. I chatted with a Chatbox that refered me to another Chat supposedly a human. They charged me $5 for the help but refunded it. So after asking the same questions the supposed expert told me to call the bank’s 800 number. I decided to drive to my bank and speak to a human. Also no help. There appears to be no way to request an increase in the dollar amount you want to send. A Chat Bot determines your amount and provides NO flexibility. I did both payments to my other child in one installament using Venmo.
Customer service is horrible
My experience with Zelle has been HORRIBLE!!
My experience with Zelle has been extremely disappointing. The biggest issue is the way so-called “authorized” payments are handled. If you are scammed and tricked into sending money, banks often deny reimbursement simply because you technically approved the transfer in the app.
That means even if you were deceived, impersonated, or pressured by a scammer, the responsibility falls entirely on you. There are no real guarantees of protection. Once the money is sent, it’s treated like cash — gone.
What’s frustrating is that Zelle is integrated directly into major banks, which gives customers a false sense of security. People assume there will be fraud protection similar to credit cards. Instead, victims are often told the transaction was “authorized” and therefore not eligible for reimbursement.
The system feels one-sided, with unclear dispute processes and little transparency. Consumers deserve clearer protections and consistent standards when fraud occurs.
Use extreme caution before sending money through this platform.
There is no means of contacting Zelle.
I checked with both banks. Sending bank had the correct account and number. Receiving bank has no record of the transaction.
Their customer service reps suck one of…
Their customer service reps suck one of them actually hung up on me and couldn't and wouldn't give me an answer to why my Zelle account is suspended or when it will be reinstated I will not use them again
Terrible
Terrible. It can take 2 to 3 days to get a response from customer service. My bank changed to this service in August 2025. I began using it. Nothing but trouble ever since. Blocked or deleted transactions little too difficult communication. Looking for other alternatives to transfer money that are more reliable, user-friendly, and customer responsive.
While you think this would be helpful
While you think this would be helpful, let me tell you it’s not. Even making a transfer to yourself can take forever. I personally find it unhelpful as incurring-late fees as you wait for your money to clear is just nonsense. As it was a cash transfer not even a check. I would not recommend Zelle to anyone. People who work hard to get ahead, this will just put them behind!
Zelle is awful and I encourage anyone…
Zelle is awful and I encourage anyone to use an alternate “direct deposit” with your bank. Anything over $1 as a first time transfer is sent back. (Even if you make sure you do a $1 transaction so the next payment goes through since it won’t be the first.) No text or email from Zelle asking for transaction approval~nothing! The money is just returned~to the confusion of the sender and then you need to manage that. Just terrible! And it doesn’t only happen once. Avoid Zelle if you can.
Worse platform to transfer money
Worse platform to transfer money. Will never use again
They are holding my money hostage
They are holding my money hostage. It's been pending forever but I know that they do this on purpose. The longer they hold my money, the longer they can screw around with it.
No support to overseas military or government workers.
So I have been stationed overseas with the US government for over 5 years. Them not allowing other numbers other than US cell carriers is stupid as a lot of USAA and Navy Federal customers are stationed overseas. Their rules need to be changed and have a customer service number or email so that they can resolve this type of issue. Bank institutions that focus on military and government workers should opt out of Zelle.
Circle jerk customer service
The first time I used it the payment went through fine. The second time I used it it put a hold on the payment. After contacting my bank and clearing up the hold the Zelle option was blocked on my account. My review is in response to the customer service that I received in the calls that I had to make trying to correct the issue. The first call I was abruptly told to call my bank. They couldn’t help me. The second call was transferred to an incorrect bank out in California. The third call was disconnected and then last call I made was a very nice representative who was very helpful but told me that she wasn’t the one I needed to talk to. She said I needed to call the number back that I’ve done called four different times. I will not use them again and would not recommend them to anyone.
I’m finished with Zelle
I’m finished with Zelle. They completely pulled out of my USAA account with no explanation, for no reason. I was accused of being 18 (I’m 72), having unacceptable income even though I pull six figures from my business I still own plus dividends. I have zero debt, own both my houses free and clear. I travel the world to see family with my time.
It’s Venmo only for me from now on.
Zelle - Unauthorized debit
We received a $150 Zelle deposit for a room rental with written refund terms. The guest canceled on the check-in date, outside the notice window. We voluntarily refunded $75 as a courtesy. Despite this, Zelle reversed the full $150 and suspended our Zelle access without giving us an opportunity to present documentation. This has disrupted our business operations. We are pursuing formal complaints.
I do not trust Zelle it is the quickest…
I do not trust Zelle it is the quickest way to unnecessarily tie your money up my past few experiences have been horrible I want banks to uninvest in Zelle because they not right
Does not let you update contacts
Does not let you update contacts. Its a horrible bank app. There's no other app to use. Its automatically in your bank app. Congress should vote to break it up. Monopoly !
Transaction Still Pending
I sold my car to a stranger that lives out of town for $3000 dollars, I received a email saying that the person sent it 2 days later my $3000 is still pending and I have no car hopefully the person don't cancel the transaction before it clear and I get scammed I am so pissed with ZELLE right now because them or my bank literally have no answers for me just telling me to wait it out it's my money and I need it now
