SCAM!! NEVER SIGN UP FOR THIS!!!!
NEVER SIGN UP FOR THIS!!!!! IT'S A SCAM!!!!!
After discovering my money had been stolen for months, I wrote to Chegg to lodge a formal complaint regarding the disgraceful and deceitful service I have experienced with Chegg (formerly Cite This for Me). It has come to my attention that I have been charged without my knowledge since signing up for a FREE TRIAL, despite never utilising the service.
When I initially registered for the FREE TRIAL, there was no mention whatsoever of any charges associated with the service. I was under the impression that it was a genuinely free trial period, with no hidden fees or obligations. To my dismay, Cite This for Me has been deducting money from my account without my explicit consent or proper notification.
To highlight the extent of this issue, I must emphasise that I have never utilised my account or accessed the platform since signing up for the free trial. Furthermore, the email address associated with my account is an old one that I solely used during my time at university and have not used since. It is only now that I have reset my password to gain access to the website and initiate the cancellation process.
Given the circumstances, I am deeply disappointed that Chegg/Cite This for Me has been stealthily withdrawing funds from my account without providing adequate prior notification. It is disheartening to discover that my hard-earned money has been essentially stolen from me during a period when financial stability is critical.
Therefore, I requested an immediate cancellation of my subscription, which, according to the information provided on the website, is scheduled to be terminated on July 31st. It is unacceptable that I will be charged for an additional month of a service I have neither utilised nor intend to use in the future.
Calculating the duration of the unauthorised charges, I find that it spans an alarming 34 months, considering my sign-up date of December 1st, 2020. With the monthly charge set at £8.39, the total amount wrongfully deducted from my account sums up to an astonishing £285.26. This sum is a significant burden, particularly during the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
I am appalled by the deceitful practices employed by Chegg/Cite This for Me, where unsuspecting customers like myself are unknowingly subjected to unjustified charges. Therefore, I requested that Chegg/Cite This for Me compensates me for the losses I have incurred, as outlined above.
I expected a satisfactory resolution to be reached, which includes immediate cancellation of my subscription and the appropriate compensation for the unauthorised charges.
Though the response from Kiran from the customer service department was quick, he went on to tell me he "didn't know" what it said on the screen at the time I signed up, but the fact that I didn't realise and notify them sooner means that I could only be refunded for the past 90 days (and that was after speaking for a LONG time for my complaint to even be progressed to a point where I may get any form of compensation).
This means from "a gesture of goodwill" they will pay me £25.17 out of the £285.26. Utterly disgraceful.
During a cost of living crisis, Chegg/Cite This for Me have been stealing money from me and now having been made aware of this, attempted to place the blame on me for not realising sooner and are unwilling to do the morally correct thing and redund me the money they have been stealing from me.
NEVER EVER EVER sign up for this service. This is the biggest scam I have ever heard of and I am left truly devastated which is going to subsequently increase my anxiety when using online services.
