Review of Toolstation

Zero to hero

This is the same shop I gave a negative review to a few years back, due to one specific individual who has long since gone. The difference in the ambience now is unbelievable. Every person there is helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.

I now buy items from Toolstation despite their higher price, simply because of the quality of service and because of the speed vs online.

Well done Toolstation Den Haag and keep it up.

Unbelievable

They arrived on time, they did a good job, they charged what they said they would. Unbelievable but true.

Well done and well recommended.

Review of Los Argentinos

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Wow!

It is not often that a restaurant deserves 5 stars, but in this case: Los Argentinos in Den Haag really deserves all five stars.

I took my wife and son there yesterday. We were given a good table, the service was good, but what really was impressive was the food. The chicken wings, the spare ribs and the prawn starters were really good - not so impressed by the empanadas but I suspect this may be an acquired taste. The rib-eye, the fillet, the fries, the baked onions, the sauces of the main meal were truly memorable. The steaks came medium rare as ordered (which is really, really unusual), the meat was tender, cooked perfectly, with a thin crust of caramelised meat around the pink red centre. The meat sauces were all really good, which is again unusual. The baked onions were superb as were the mushrooms and the chips were very good.
Even the house Merlot was rather good.
A truly surprising experience that I will definitely repeat and let you all know if it is still amazing the next time.

Avoid

Summary:
Ordering - difficult
Delivery - random
Service - magnificently bad

Ordering is difficult because the majority of the people I have spoken to do not know an LED strip from their elbow. So far, there is only one person, Mark, who actually showed competence.

Delivery is random. They use PostNL, which is a roulette wheel of delivery possibility with multiple double-zeroes.

But services, oh what service! They are magnificently awful at service. We are talking world-class art-form here.

The first delivery was missing pins. The second, after a long and protracted telephone conversation including photos, resulted in delivery of two types of pins; one type worked and the other did not.

After the second delivery, I ring them and speak to the saleswoman from hell. She tells me to send a video. When I explain that a video will not help, she becomes angrier and terminates the call.

I ring again an hour later and speak to another lady who insists that I send her an email. I do, she eventually responds asking for a video.

At this point, I am googling and find that I can buy working pins from elsewhere.

So, do I want this experience again? What do you think? Am I going to chase the missing pins with them? What do you think? Am I ever going to buy anything else from them again? What do you think?
Is my experience unique? What do you think?
Is this corporate evolution in action perhaps? What do you think?

Do no buy Grundfos SoloLift in the Netherlands

I was stupid enough to buy a Grundfos Sololift. The machine went down after 18 months. I bought a new machine, that went down after 2 weeks.

So I contacted Grundfos today and asked for a technical analysis of why 2 machines have gone down. Spoke to a truly uninterested and rather arrogant young person, who told me that this was not something Grundfos did and then finally disconnected the call without giving me his name or passing me through to a manager.

The consequences of this are that if you are thinking of buying a Grundfos sololift in the Netherlands, then you will not have support if something goes wrong. You are on your own!

Given that all the plumbers in the Hague who I have spoken to do not want to touch a SoloLift, the reality is that this is an unsupported product and should be avoided because even in its guarantee product, Grundfos will have no interest in supporting, repairing or otherwise helping.

Review of Werkspot

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Is this a scam?

Werkspot offers a €9.95 service cost with a €65 per hour charge. I have used Werkspot twice and in both cases, I was charged over €150 per visit even though each visit lasted less than one hour.

In both cases, the problem reoccurred after one hour and in both cases, it proved impossible to get the plumbers out again.

So the question is does Werkspot know this and knowingly accept this behaviour from its plumbers or not?

Certainly its plumbers appear to be carrying out a very profitable scam.

Reasons to avoid - part 666

I purchased a Makita JR305 from Toolstation and picked it up on Friday last. It lasted a few hours before it became impossible to insert a new blade. Unusual for Makita, but can happen.
Toolstation tried to insert the blades but failed and then stated that as I had used it, they could neither refund nor exchange. It has to be sent to Makita to check if this is a production error.

So, I am without a machine and without the money. I have effectively been punished for buying from Toolstation.

Ok, I am slow to learn, but I do learn. Avoid!

UPDATE:

Toolstation has responded by stating that I should contact them but have not provided a way to communicate with them. This is a very effective method of ensuring that they appear to be interested without actually doing any work!

UPDATE 2:

I finally went into Toolstation in June of this year to find that one year later, they still had not sent the faulty machine back to the manufacturer. It had been sitting in their Binckhorst office for a year!

When asked, the salesman stated it was not their normal policy and after a long chat with his manager, he finally gave me a brand new machine in the box. In the intervening years, the machine had gone up in price but he still gave me a new machine. Not sure what to do with it as I have since bought a Milwaukee Sawzall and do not need the makita anymore.

Pity they could not have sorted this out a year ago!

Pity that Makita allows them to do that. Certainly since this experience, I have not purchased any Makita tools and do not intend to moving forwards.

And just to avoid the disingenuous bleat of "Oh we want to help but we don't know who you are" here are enough details for you figure out who I am.

Factuurnummer OAB126493585
Datum bestelling 2023-06-20 13:05:51 (date you eventually, finally, reluctantly, replaced the old Makita dysfunctional machine with one that was working - at least I hope it is working as I have not taken it out of the box)

Klantenservice too busy watching tv

Today at 12:32, I contacted Toolstation on 0715815050, I spoke to a young lady with a very loud tv in the background so I asked her to reduce the volume so that I could hear her speak.

She disconnected the call. When I tried to ring back, she disconnected again.

Cool service. Consider this as commercial evolution in action; non-survival of the bored and incompetent.

Update. Toolstation has requested my email but have not provided a a way for me to provide my email.

Cooler by the minute.

Review of KPN

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Large, inflexible organisation with poor service

I contacted KPN for a new contract. I told them I did not speak Dutch and therefore wanted all details explained on the phone. They informed me that a box would be sent the next day, I would plug it in and it would work.

I received the box the next day, plugged it in and it did not work. When I contacted support in a call lasting 90 minutes, they eventually informed me that the internet connection would take a week to complete. I asked for escalation to a manager and was refused. The support person then terminated the call.

KPN only allow complaints by letter, not by email or by phone. They do not allow escalations and there is no client service number you can contact.

They have no email address you can contact. The whole approach appears to be about hindering complaints or feedback.

I have cancelled the contract and gone back to Ziggo as this is not an organisation that meets my needs. I believe that I am not alone.
