Review of Londonmortgages

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

15 years of service that continues to exceed my expectations!

We've used Rachel and the team at London Mortgages since our very first house purchase in 2010. They've always found us the best deals, made sensible recommendations and ensured that we've never missed our mortgage renewal date. For our most recent mortgage renewal they secured the rate and then re-issued the offer 6 times as the rates reduced, ensuring that we locked in the best possible rate. The number of times that Rachel has made recommendations that have gone on to save us money means that I'll always trust her advice and will be using her for our mortgage until she retires or we pay it off!

Renewal

Five stars to Anees for sorting me out with a decent renewal price. More than I would like to have paid bit still a lot cheaper than the full price. Thanks Anees! Just wish the service had a few less outages!

Excellent except for one outage.

We've had Gigaclear for a week. The installers turned up a couple of hours late but on the right day and were pretty flexible with the install, leaving a very neat job. Internet was immediately excellent. I would give then 5 stars except for the fact that on the Thursday evening we had an Internet outage for 8 hours. Luckily it was in the evening and to be fair I had a text and e-mail from Gigaclear within 5 mins of it starting to tell me they were working on it. Had it been in the daytime it would have been more of an issue. Hopefully this is just bad luck. While our BT FTTC connection was slow it it was very reliable and I need the same from Gigaclear so I'm really hoping that this is not the start of a trend.

Expected Better

Sold a 15 year old Audi using Motorway. Received an offer of £2275. Dealer's driver arrived to collect, had a good look over it and over the phone the dealer tried to knock off £850 bringing the price down to £1425. I was happy to agree to £300 of the reduction as there was some rust starting to bubble on one wheel arch that I hadn't noticed however a lot of the rest of the "damage" felt like the dealer trying to knock off money because of unrealistic expectations of a 15 year old car. After a stressful haggling experience we agreed a discount of £425. The experience left me with the following observations. Because the dealer has sent someone a great distance to pick up the car, if they notice damage that you haven't spotted you are pressured to accept a discount because they have sent someone across the country and it is your fault. You need to be as good at spotting damage as an experienced car dealer to avoid a reduction during collection. Finally the dealers base their price on the car being absolutely perfect except for the damage that you report. There is no allowance for or expectation that an older car will be any less than perfect unless you have photographed every last chip, ding, scratch that can be polished out etc. For example in my case they wanted to knock off £50 to polish out some minor scratches on one side. It's a 15 year old car, they should be making an assumption that there will be some minor polishing required on a 15 year old car that has done over 100,000 miles and building that into their initial offer. While I was a little disappointed with the outcome, overall I was mostly just disappointed with the Motorway business model. If I'd taken it to We Buy Any Car or a dealer or put it on Auto Trader I would have received a final offer based on their inspection and been able to accept it or walk away. Instead the offer relies on your own inspection and as I said earlier unless you are as good at inspecting your own car as someone who does it for a living you will miss tiny scratches, scuffs etc and you'll be pressured into accepting a price that you could have more easily walked away from using any of those other methods. Furthermore it also emerged (according to the dealer) that Motorway had made a few errors in the listing specifying that there were no dents when in fact I had provided a picture of one and stating that the last service was at 45000 miles when in fact it was 95000 miles. I'll never know whether this had any impact on the offers received since all of the information was in the photos if the dealers looked hard enough but it certainly doesn't improve my confidence in Motorway! The whole experience was more stressful than my last private sale and I received 30-50% less than I would have for a private sale because I was selling to a dealer. I don't think the dealer got the deal of the century out of it but only because of a protracted stressful haggle. I certainly didn't get the easy sales experience that Motorway claimed that I'd get!

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your review. Sorry you were unhappy with your experience. We know vehicle appraisal can be tricky, but we aim to provide clear advice to guide you in accurately identifying any imperfections. Having listened to your call with us, in this case further detail may have assisted you, which we will feed back to your agent.

Unfortunately your service mileage was listed partially incorrectly, although this was confirmed verbally and in writing before you accepted an offer. We're sorry for any confusion, but as photos of your service history were included on the ad, it shouldn't have affected your offers. As far as we can see, the dent was included on the profile.

Buyers do expect that there will be no additional damage, and base their offer on this description due to the degree of advance appraisal already carried out. Assumptions are not made based on age because there isn't necessarily a direct correlation depending on the owner. This is not to say that they expect a perfect vehicle at any age, but simply one as described.

We're sorry if you felt pressured to proceed, as you're never obligated to do so, and are free to walk away at any point. Buyers accept a degree of risk in longer distance collections, and you can contact Motorway for mediation if you feel a reduction is unfair or uncomfortable. We would never expect you to accept an offer you weren't happy with.

If you would like to provide further feedback, please contact 020 3988 3388 or reviews@motorway.co.uk.

Best regards,
