Review of St John Ambulance (England) - Training courses
The first aid course at Warwick given by Steve was brilliant, it gave me a brand new understanding of how to help people, and has given me more confidence to approach situations where people are hurt. Everything covered in the three days felt appropriate and was given enough time to go over each area thoroughly. It felt like the injuries and conditions were grouped together effectively, and each new thing learned felt like an extension of the previous thing. Splitting up into groups to research similar topics was a great way to get everyone invested in whatever topic they were set to discover, and then coming together and having a laugh while presenting, and asking questions felt like a very fun, effective way to learn. And having one presentation a day felt like the perfect amount. Steve was an excellent instructor who was patient and could explain everything in depth, he could also have some fun and made the course very exciting. 12 people felt like a great group size, where each person could share their experiences so no one's voice was drowned out in a mass of people, but it was large enough that it felt like a cohesive group which could learn together. The way the course was assessed was very forgiving and supportive, having consistent practical assessments with a few tests of knowledge was very relaxing compared to an exam at the end of the course. Overall the course was fantastic and I can't think of anything which bored me or I found distressing, it was a really special experience which I will hope to do again in 3 years.
