First and last time i rent with Italy car rent. We rented via the airline (this might have been our error #1) and at pick-up only my wife name was on the reservation, and to add me as a driver its a 30Eur fee, fine, but as we change name of driver vs reservation our insurance is no longer valid (?) so i am asked to pay 190Eur more for insurance, she also wanted to block 900Eur on my credit card if i did not take the insurance. Of course you can decline insurance but the lady was very persistant that we would not be covered by or for anything happening to the car. so ok we pay, the lady at the counter, this was 11PM at night with tired family and kid was super pushy and rude! The car we got was a joke, most basic simple opel corsa with 50,000KM on it, which they say is equivalent to a Citroen C3, i dont think so. Fine we take the car, for 3 days the car was acting strange, no power really and sometimes trouble to start in the heat. so on the 4 day the car went in to limp mode, only 1 gear to get me to a parking and error message in Italian, the car needs service, ok turn the car off an on, now it says battery failure but runs. so we call the company and explain the situation, this lady was actually nice, she planned with the airport to get it changed directly. we got to the airport and this was funny, the guy was nice, but he told me that I should leave the car with half a tank of gas (imagine why) i had filled it full for 70Eur, he said that nothing he can do. so i explain to him that im not paying for more gas and i need a car that works! We only have one day left on the rental and want to enjoy last day of vacation. he got approval from manager and found us another Opel Corsa, which was actually nicer, newer, less miles, and more equipment and a full tank of gas! WELL DONE by this guy! so we finished of this story with paying almost double of car rental, 1 broken car, 1 replacement and lessons learned to just pay more for a company with better reputation. fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me!
