Sudden gym closure, loss of lease, unable to cancel membership

My local energie fitness gym in Ipswich closed suddenly on 21/12/23 without prior warning or explanation. Signs appeared quickly on gym doors to say that the lease had been forfeited and the building taken back by the co-op who owns it. The gym advised all members that their memberships had been frozen and payments would not be taken, this is not the case and payments have still been taken.
Members are unable to cancel memberships via the online portal as it states it has been frozen but the direct debit mandate is still live. Members who have cancelled their direct debit are now receiving emails from Harlands threatening extra fees if the payments are not made.
I have emailed the gym three times with the most recent being on 27/12/23 to give a months notice to notify of cancellation of my membership. Again, still no response.
I understand that this is a franchise however, is anyone at energie able to help with this matter of cancelling memberships?
It’s not a good representation of the brand.
