Beware of Scammers

Beware of Scammers - Horrible Experience with BSP-Auto and Abbycar

I recently had a terrible experience renting a car through the BSP-Auto website, supposedly from a company called Caldera. The advertised price was 94 euros for 8 days, but it turned into a nightmare.

**Misleading Branding and Shell Company Tactics**
Upon arrival at the airport, a minibus with both Caldera and Abbycar logos took us to the rental location. However, when we got there, there was no sign of Caldera; the company operating was Abbycar. This deceptive practice suggests that Abbycar might be using Caldera as a front to lure in customers.

**Outrageous Insurance Fees**
At pickup, I was asked to pay an additional 200 euros for full insurance, on top of a 150 euro deposit. This demand seemed absurd, considering the original rental cost was only 94 euros. When I refused, they held a 1500 euro deposit on my credit card instead.

**Unjust Damage Charges**
Returning the car was the worst part. They found a tiny 2 cm scratch almost underneath the car, an area not easily visible unless you specifically check by bending down. They charged me a whopping 700 euros for this minor scratch, which I suspect was already there. They threatened to withhold my entire deposit if I didn't pay up, forcing me to comply due to my imminent flight departure.

This entire experience was nothing short of a scam. I strongly advise everyone to avoid renting from BSP-Auto and Abbycar. Their business practices are deceptive, and they exploit customers with unreasonable charges. Save yourself the trouble and look for a reputable rental company instead.

Bad communication, not reliable

We had full coverage and no damage to the car. However, AbbyCar unjustly withheld our deposit. We've been chasing our money for 2 months with no resolution. AbbyCar does not take us seriously and makes no effort to resolve this issue or keep us informed. This is our first and last time using AbbyCar.

Abby car hire Chania .
Turned up they did not have the car type I booked so they down graded the car . Then they try to charge for breakdown cover . I hire cars 4 times a year and have never been charged for breakdown cover or if you don’t take it they charge a 300 euro fee should you breakdown.Returned car only to be confronted with another client fighting with staff . So another satisfied 😊 customer NOT . Ok the price was good 👍 but avoid yourself the stress and pay a little 🤏 more . I hope of some help .

Scam like operator!

Scam like operator!
They advertise competitive prices on comparison sites and wait for the surprise when you get to their desk to collect the car.
The deposit is so high, €3,500 in my case, that your bank refuses the booking transaction.
As a result, you have to go with what they offer you at the desk which was 3 times the price I paid for the reservation. Otherwise, you're left in an office a couple of miles away from the airport and your pre-booked reservation unworthy.
This is not the way credible business should be done!

The biggest scammers ever!

The biggest scammers ever! I experienced the same issues mentioned in many of the other comments. You can't change the main driver or pay the deposit with a debit card unless you opt for their premium cover, which doubles the cost of the car. Their customer service is highly skilled at spinning stories, making you feel trapped. You're left with no choice but to pay the extra insurance or go without a car. When returning the car they'll find every possible way to charge you extra—additional costs for cleaning, claims of insufficient fuel (even when the tank is full), and more. This was the worst experience I've ever had with a rental company. My situation took place in Tirana, and the customers before us faced exactly the same issues.

They are worst rental company I have ever used. I booked and paid for full coverage insurance. When I went to collect the car and wanted to pay a deposit, it didn’t go through. I have tried 4 different credit cards. I have never had a problem with any of them. They said the only option was to pay for their insurance, another €210.

Abbycar rental is the worst rental…

Abbycar rental is the worst rental company I have ever used. I booked a car through Economy Bookings and paid for full coverage insurance. When I went to collect the car, I waited for 40min for the documents to be sorted and when it came to pay a deposit, it didn’t go through. I tried 3 credit cards. I have never had a problem with any of them. They said the only option was to pay for their insurance, another €300 (on top of the €280 I’d already spent) and they will reduce the deposit amount. I chose to cancel the reservation for which I had to pay another €30. And by the way, if you don’t pay their insurance, then the vignette cost is not included in the rental cost so you have to pay for it on top of everything else! A complete rip off! Avoid this company at all cost!

Never ever Rent a Car from Abby Car!!!!

We arrived after an International Flight form Europe at 4:30 pm at Miami Airport, we supposed to be there by 3 pm. In Cause of a Cancelled flight we have been 1,5 Hours late, the Pick up provided by the Company took about 30 Minutes, not a Problem till now. When we arrived we have been welcomed by the Staff. After checking our Voucher we have been informed to Pay a Extra Charge for being to late, i asked how much it will be? 15 $ per Day the Guy said, for 16 Day that would have been another 240 €! The Guy told me to Check my Voucher, what i did. It said that that there is no Guarantee for our Vehicle if we pick up the Car later, and that there is an extra Charge for returning the Car to late. I kindly asked where he was reading about the Charge of picking up to late? The Guy checked his Papers, couldn't show me this Kind of Information as well. So i called the Agency where i booked the Car, they asked for a Receipt of the extra Charge. I asked for this Receipt at the Rental Office, they showed me on the Contract, it was named Extra Charge, 15 $ per Day. But there was no Information what the Extra Charge was for. I said ok, let's do it. Then there came the Road Tax Charge for slightly reasonable 25 $, guess what, of course, per Day! I said it was already included, showed it on the Voucher. But no, i have to pay this extra. After i was really feeling to be scammed, we left the Property immediately, walked back to the Airport and got all Service we've been looking for! The Guy at the Airport even asked to book on the Companies German Website, because the Prices are better there! Honestly, that is my First Review ever, and i'm 40 now. I'm coming to Miami for more than 30 Yers now, i never ever experienced something like this before. A Fee for being to late at an Airport Car Rental Station! Please, please make a big Turn around this Company!

Avoid this company at all cost

Avoid this company at all cost. I’ve booked a car through carjet.com and paid a waiver car insurance for nearly 84 euro. The Abby car was unable to take the deposit from my business and my personal credit card. I called my bank provider and they’ve said that there is no problem at their side. Abbycar however took payment successfully from the same card to buy their insurance package for 350 euro. Totally rip off.

This company is an absolute scam.

This company is an absolute scam.
I had a reservation and I reached their office. They asked me for my driving license, my personal ID and my credit card. I provided all and then they ask me about some proof of address. I am Greek but I live in Germany the last 6 years. I asked them if this is necessary because no one ever asked me about a document that proves the permanent address. They insisted that it was written in the Voucher, I read the Voucher and didn't find it after all I logged in to my electricity provider and downloaded the latest invoice which states my name and address, I sent it via email but they told me that they will not give my a car based on security reasons, I asked to show me the security protocol and which rule I broke, why am I supposed to be a security thread but got no answer, they asked me to call the website I used to make the reservation and ask to be redirected to another company because they will not give me any car. The funny thing is that I have made over 50 bookings with the same website and never came across such a bad service. So I would suggest to stay away from that company, I will try to get my money back but they definitely ruined my day. They want to rip off some customers

Do not use this company

Do not use this company. When I returned the car they said I had driven off-road and so were going to charge me €400. I parked outside my guesthouse on a grass field, 10 meters from the road. I showed them a picture of the car parked slightly off road on a grass field. They were not interested. They showed me their GPS mapping confirming this along with another apparently illegal road that I used. This was a road my satnav advised and had other local cars driving on and was a road like any other in Montenegro. I refused to pay but they took my deposit instead. Do not use this company.

Abby car Malta: avoid

Malta: I rented the car online aware of the fact that for 25€ for one week, I won’t get a Hammer. (Wasn’t my first time, but was my first time with this agency.) They state they are at the airport and the out-of-hour service start at 8pm, after that time you pay an extra fee. As my flight was delayed, I called the agency to let them know I would arrive at 7.50. I asked if the pick-up point was at the airport, a near building with al rent a car agencies. They said Yes. They said if I arrive even 3 min after 8pm, they automatically will charge 59€ extra fee. Ok, I understand, I can’t pretend they change their rules for me.
I landed at 7.50pm and was at that mentioned building by 8.03. I couldn’t find the agency and have been told it has no pick up point at the airport. I again called the guy supposed to wait for me at the airport and have been informed he waits for me in the car at the other side of the airport. It took me another 10min to reach him, after what he drove me to their office and we arrived at 8.30pm. Which means, even if you land on time at the airport, they still consider your “reaching the office time” not depending on you but on their pick up.
The guy at the office had me sign the contract and I noticed the out-of-hours fee is 35€, not 59€. I told asked why they told me it was 59€ and he said it must have been a colleague of their to give me this wrong information. I went out to take a detailed video of the car, it was dark and they told me I could do it the day after. Guys; always do it straight away, given that you sign, you better know what you sign. There were infinite scratches and broken parts (again: that’s perfectly OK as long as you and they acknowledge these by a written paper). I had them note every single scratch and broken mirror & similars.
I took a video of inside even if they say they do not check the inside: cigarettes burned seats, engine level, kilometers, lights.
They asked where I stay and I said Gozo; suddenly the price raised to a 100 bucks extra. They stated this information is to be read in the voucher conditions. (Not true.) It was late and I had no chance to get another car as my family was to be picked up, arriving with another flight. They said in “Gozo pass” was included in these 100€. Please note, the Gozo pass (just an ordinary ferry) is only cca 15€ A/R…
I told them it was very dishonest to charge last minute charges they are not mentioned in their contract and so not legal;Gozo is still Malta and only border crossing is not allowed and therefore sanctionable / not allowed.
They gave me an old “Gozo pass” for the ferry expiring few days after: watch out for that too. Also, it only includes the driver so you will need to pay an extra 5€ for every other passenger in the car.
Not even to mention, the car was half broken, only the wheels were good. Usb charger not working, strange noises coming from every part, mirrors broken.
Still ok for 25€.
I have been given a list of chargeable damages to be taken out of my deposit (1500€ with credit card); with their prices you can literally get a new car.
The morning after I called the manager for an explanation and in a pretty rude way have been told “it’s the fault of the broker’s website id they do not mention the Gozo surcharge.” Which, again, is not true as their website conditions are exactly the same as on the third- part web site.
I complained with the third part website who sold me this big deal and am still waiting for a conclusion: those 100€ Gozo surcharge is pure madness. (No other rentals have ever charged that to me nor it exists in their “rental conditions”).
I made sure the deposit came back to my account but honestly, should some people trust this society in the middle of the night, maybe less experienced and trustful, they would probably face much more difficulties and money loss than I do.
Not sure I do recommend this rental car experience.

Find someone else!

Find someone else! Since I didn’t have a credit card to block the deductible of 800€, I had to take out another ‘insurance’ for an additional 100€. Funny how they suddenly could block the included 150€ deductible after all? Pure rip-off. You can tell the employees have rehearsed this well. Unfortunately, we read the reviews too late.

Stay away from this scamming campany

To get to our accommodation we had to go on a non-asphalt but paved street for roughly 100 meters. Because of that they charged us a 400€ offroading fee. There was no damage to the car, the street was perfectly viable to drive on.
They scam you for a living, stay away.

STAY AWAY

We used this company in April 2024 and we suspected it to be dodgy when we arrived, as companies around the airport did not know of them for car hire. My husband called the company and we were collected, without a baby seat, even though we had specified we had a baby at the time of booking.
When we arrived they blocked €1,500 on the credit card. Somehow there was damage to the car on our return to the collection/drop off location. We believe that the company caused this damage. The company are completely unprofessional and I would never want anyone to be treated the way we are. We tried to argue paying this and we knew that we were in no other position but to pay for it as we were stuck there, without any other way back to the airport. The way this guy spoke to us, made us both think that he had alot of experience doing this to other people.
STAY AWAY!
