Great Store
This is the nth time I have been to this store and have come away with good advice, healthy fish and friendly service. My partner and I have not been going here for that long probably just over a month but I have been impressed by how well this place is run. The number of staff available to service and the number of staff just caring for the livestock. I am by no means a newbie to keeping fish although I am a 'marine virgin'. Staff have always been friendly (must give Andy a heads up here) and knowledgeable There when you needed them but without pushing support when you did not. Get yourself down here and give it a try. I am so glad I found it after a (very) long search.
Dont buy From this website! My recent order from them killed 3/4 of my pre existing
Lets be clear! my tank is fine I multiple tanks and the tank affected has around 3-4 different fish breeds having babies being bred in it.
Total iv spent here is close to around £275, this is what their last order alone did to my 110l tank and the total death count since buying from them!
mine = fish I had pre-existing in my tank for over a year.
Theirs = Fish I ordered with them 2nd time around
2 angel fish both mine.
10 cherry barbs (4 of my own and 6 of Theirs),
3 female guppies (2 of mine and 1 of yours),
one male guppies (mine),
5 blue and red neon tera (mine)
3 sword fish (mine)
3 Platy (mine)
1 Banded Kuhli Loach (mine),
3 Silver Tip Tetra (mine) ,
2 Cherry Barb Longfin (Yours ),
2 Brilliant Rummy Nose Tetra (yours ).
I have a community tank that is all perfectly balanced, water is tested almost daily its fully planted and has about £350 worth of kit, + £100 plus of water treatment like vitamins etc. iv spent just as much time learning this hobby as I have doing it, iv not had a single fish death in over a single year.
I own multiple tanks and have had way more than I currently do in it happily. snice my second order I have had a total of 34 fish deaths, I have around 10 left in my tank, including healthy babies.
The rate of deaths has been around 2-3 a day since I ordered around 15 days ago and in about 10 days time I'm looking at a completely empty tank if things carry on the way they are. as for this review i had one fish die around 30 mins ago.
Before you think to yourself ah his tank spiked or something no its hasn't not once, I don't over feed fish eat all their food in around 2 mins, all chemical levels are as they should be, water has plenty of oxygen, i have plenty of bio matter/ bio bacteria, the tank has plenty of hides, plenty of plants, all the fish are completely passive and specifically picked for a community tank. so I know what I'm doing and I'm anal and meticulous about it. all my new fish go into a hospital tank before they go in a community tank to check for health etc.
i really shouldn't have ordered from these guys a second time around and iv learn my lesion sadly, the 1st order i brought a Neon Royal Blue Dwarf Gourami Female off them, she had something and killed my 4 other Gourami. a few fish arrived dead but that's to be expected online, water smelt fine.
second time around things where more complicated, before my order shipped I had to call them because they had a problem with fish not looking very well before they shipped, I was disappointed to say the least because i didn't get a few fish i wanted, they instead replaced them with cheaper fish and ended up costing me £4 more some how even when they applied a discount. that should of been a red flag for me instantly should of cancelled the order.
fast forward the next day fish come all look good apart from the koi sword fish ones dead other one looks stressed. so followed all the stages your meant to do and then introduced them to my empty hospital tank, that gets filled and cycled with one of my main tank i decide to put them into. anyway the water that the fish came smelt worse than death every single bag smelt horrendous and if I could I would of sent the entire order back for a refund. after about 4 days in my tank they all looked fine again followed all acclimatising stages and introduced them to my main tank. then about give or take 3 days after that so its been around a week since i brought them, the deaths started.
its without a doubt something related on their end because only certain breeds of fish that i hadbrought off them the second time have died, just like the 1st order and the dwarf fish that is how i know its related to their shop, 1st time a is what ever, second time something is fishy.
iv ordered off 3-4 different online fish stores before and never had a problem. but having problems with both orders I felt I had to email them and ask for some form of compensation, seeing as I was repeat customer had spent close to £300 with them, I expected at least a sorry didn't even get that they threatened me into not posting a negative review and said they will no longer communicate with me.
I told them I don't want to give a negative review if I don't have to because I know the effect it can have on a company, they basically said f*** off convo is over!
so not only do they have terrible fish hygiene evident from above, disease ridden fish, but their customer support are also complete ass****.
so I implore you to go spend your money at a place they seem to care about the people as much as the fish!
I GUESS THE ONE THING THEY CAN BE PROUD OF IS THEY MADE A 27 YEAROLD MAN MAKE HIS 1ST EVER REVIEW!
(well the list is above....if anyone needs proof that I have in fact ordered from them. I will forward you both my invoices ), again I have both my complaint and their reply if anyone needs it for reassurance

Excellent livestock quality and very happy with the delivery of my new Tang juvenile. The delivery was so quick and the packaging was very good.
I can’t recommend this aquatic online company enough and I will most definitely be ordering again.
Fish came on time and healthy
Fish came on time, seem healthy well packaged, price is reasonable.
Stock count online is accurate. Ordered from others online before and they then email to apologise over not having stock (while it still showing they do online) but not here, the dispatch order came quick.
Well packaged and slightly cheaper on delivery as well compared to others (though it's still not cheap). Would use again.
Awful managerial service
We’ll start this review on a high, but unfortunately it will take a very sudden slope downhill!
Firstly, I’ve always had a good experience with Abyss aside from very recently, I can’t fault the majority of the floor staff, especially a young guy that started just over a week ago he’s doing amazingly well and is super polite, and even more so apologetic for something out of his control!
I’ve been in twice over the last week and bought 4 pineapple swordtails over the two visits, the first male died within 48 hours, and as explained to the staff when in the shop earlier this evening, this was not reported as it was after 24 hours and I just took it as one of them things that happens, two more (one male and one female) were bought yesterday afternoon after one male had sadly passed, once we’d travelled home (a 20 minute journey) and removed the fish from the carrier bag to acclimatise them to our tank, we noticed a very large amount of red thin and pointy stringy pieces floating in the water within the bag, to which we believe to be camallanus worms (parasites) and upon further inspection the female also had a fungal growth on the side of her face.
To cut a long story short, I rang up around lunch time today to advise them of the issue encountered as it is within 24 hours to be advised to bring a sample of water etc, which I did and had no issues in doing as I know my water parameters are absolutely fine and I wouldn’t have bought new fish had they not been.
Went to the store around 5:45 tonight, water was tested and surprise surprise it was absolutely fine! However as I had treated my tank for parasites using Esha NDX, I have supposedly and I quote “you’ve killed them fish, you’ve over medicated them”
Not once was I asked the size of my tank or the amount of medication used, had it been the correct amount they would never know as the basic details were not asked.
I know for certain that I have not “over medicated” my tank and “killed my fish” as if this was the case why are all my other fish absolutely fine, happily swimming around the tank, not a slight illness in sight.
Further to this, the first two swordtails that were purchased were not medicated in anyway, but guess they died too! But again, my water parameters are perfect yeah? According to both my test kit and yours!
I was approached by what I can only assume was a “manager” who spoke very aggressively down to me, I was told “you clearly know nothing about fish” shouting and swearing at me repeatedly whilst I’m holding my 4 year old little boy in my arms, being told by one member of staff that they don’t ever treat their tanks, and then being told by a so called manager that they get treated, all within the space of a few minutes. Which one is it? Rather contradicting don’t you think? If you’re gonna lie to your customers, at least clue your staff members up eh?
He’s also advised me that you should never treat/medicate a fish EVER.. Whitespot, Fungal, Tetra Disease, just to name a few, according to this “man” you should never treat for. This being said, why does the store have a full range of solutions for such things? If this should NEVER be done, and again I know absolutely nothing about fish, yet there were poorly fish in the tanks which I pointed one of out to this “man” to his response there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s not got swim bladder (yet it’s floating to the top of the tank, and had a distended belly) less than 30 seconds later another member of staff is removing the fish from the tank.
He reckoned he won’t try and educate me, well that’s quite alright sunshine because I don’t want any education from you, maybe from other members of your floor staff that actually give a damn about the well-being of your livestock.
Now if that is a manager that is suppose to hold the company, I’d be concerned if he could as much as hold a pen, he is the rudest, most obnoxious man I’ve ever had the not so much pleasure of meeting, and I would be appalled to work alongside or under him because his work and business ethics are of the unimaginable.
AVOID AVOID AVOID
Went here today for the first time, with the ambition of starting to breed my own fish! Met Harry, who has know experience breeding fish but strongly advises that any information gathered from the internet is completely useless and misinformation. I inquired about a ph kit and a few other items, I thought I was told two different prices on one of the items so I checked the price online.. this then made Harry quite angry.. he sent me away to tell his boss what I had done(for the record I found the item £10 cheaper) then Harry returned still pushing this ph tester at £35. Harry’s boss(I think) then started telling me how bad it is to do a price check online, I tried to explain that I thought they gave me two different prices, but they didn’t listen! Harry then tells me “You would not go on the internet to learn about your car, would you? Haha, The only place you can learn about fish breeding is at Abyss with employees that have no experience in this. I told Harry’s boss that they have lost my business he said good we do not want it! I had every intention of purchasing the items I needed but the service is shocking!! On my way out I heard another employee say is that the weirdo. The fact they are so protective of online price matching makes me think that all there stock is probably way over priced, Check Online before they scam you!
I have used this company a few times…
I have used this company a few times and have always had a brilliant service and great communication. Purchased both accessories for the tank and live fish which were well shipped and arrived safely.
Excellent livestock and dry food deliveries
I have used abyss for a number of years now for online orders. I have always been impressed with their customer service, shipping speeds, friendliness and pricing. I recently tried my first livestock order with them and I must say I was impressed. The way the livestock was packed was the best I have seen from an online aquatics retailer and the quality of the livestock was perfect. I usually expect a small amount of die-off when introducing large numbers of invertebrates but my order had a 100% success rate for 5 fish and 25+ inverts. Great overall experience!
AVOID
AVOID ! I set the tank up from the scratch buying everything from Abbys and followed every single advice they gave me… I bought 27 fish altogether and they started to die one after another, 16 died, 11 is still alive… water parameters were perfect and still are … addressed the issue with Abbys and their owner Mark but was told that it’s because of the stress… after few more deaths I have noticed a white poo in few of the fish… informed Mark about it but he ignored it… so I went to the local breeder to check it under the microscope and he found two parasites: spironucleosis and chilodonella, informed Mark about it but he ignored it once again. Fish kept dying so I requested a full refund and offered to bring remaining fish back as they were most probably infected as well… email after email was ignored so I’ve open a case in the court. Mark open the case as well against me wanting £300 for the time I was talking to his staff and himself… how ridiculous and unbelievable that is ! AVOID THIS PLACE PLEASE
Online fish order
Placed an order for livestock not knowing what to expect as had never used Abyss Aquatics before. Communication was excellent & let me know exact day for delivery so I was home. Everything arrived very well & securely packaged. My fishy friends have settled in nicely. Would definitely recommend Abyss Aquatics to anyone & will definitely use again!
