AIG - Probably the worst Insurance company

AIG - probably the worst Insurance Company i have ever dealt with! Called 6 times to report a car accident claim and was cut off 5 times, apparently their calls are handled in Bulgaria! Its a bank holiday there today so don't have an accident on a Bulgarian Bank Holiday! One of their injury claims assistant finally took my details but still no success in resolving! Its a company decision but I would certainly not use them and they sponsor some of the Premier League Football teams!! Management will hopefully move away from this Poor Service orientated company! AVOID.

Terrible: Refuse to pay valid claim

Many thanks to the reviewer below for recommending the Financial Ombudsman, that's where I'm going next.

AIG finding every excuse in the book not to re-imburse a trip cancelled because of Covid. Repeated use of "we cannot..." when they mean "we don't want to...". I feel sorry for their staff having to front up to customers.
Really shocking. I'm sure the Board are trying to protect cashflow now, but they'll really suffer financially in the future, in terms of the hit on their reputation and the body of appalling reviews now on the internet.

Required Financial Ombudsman assistance

After purchasing a cancellation policy for flights purchased through Expedia, AIG Travel claimed that a voucher for cancelled flights resulting from the pandemic constituted a form of a refund, and therefore they would not pay out. A voucher for an airline that may or may not go bust as a result of the pandemic is of course, not a refund that can help you to pay other bills in life. After exploring all possible avenues, other than taking them to court, I filed a claim with the (UK) Financial Ombudsman. After a few weeks wait, AIG coughed up the money. I would urge anyone else who has been in the same situation, and wants to get their money back to do the same. The whole experience has made me wonder what the point is of getting travel insurance in the first place. I spent many hours, perhaps even days on the phone and emailing to pursue this claim.

AVOID!!! AVOID!!! AVOID!!!

I AM ONLY SORRY I CANNOT GIVE ZERO STARS OR INDEED A MINUS REVIEW.

HAD THE MISFORTUNE OF HAVING TO MAKE TWO CLAIMS FOR HOLIDAYS THAT HAD BEEN BOOKED PRIOR TO THE C19 SITUATION.

HAVE HAD TRAVEL INSURANCE POLICY VIA BANK FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS AND NEVER MADE A CLAIM BEFORE. NOW THAT I HAVE, THEY ARE DOING EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER TO WRIGGLE OUT OF PAYING WHAT IS DUE.

“TREATING CUSTOMERS FAIRLY” IS CERTAINLY NOT PART OF THEIR MISSION STATEMENT. THEY ARE A COMPLETE DISGRACE!!!

they will take your money when it comes to making a claim they come up with ridiculous reasons why not to pay and then you have to take them to the court which is another headache altogether,,,go somewhere else ☠️

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. Bought a flight + travel insurance through Expedia back in December (so way before the pandemic). Still planning to go on the trip (can't be avoided, have to attend my brother's wedding who lives abroad), however Lufthansa cancelled one of the flights. So we had to re-arrange our travel for a day earlier (staying with family so no big deal otherwise). So contacted AIG as of course our policy was only due to start a day AFTER our new traveling date. After a few emails back and forth where they asked me for screenshots etc, I got a message basically telling us "We've successfully cancelled your policy" (I asked for an amendment as I knew that given the pandemic a new insurance would be a. more expensive and b. have multiple exclusions on it). When I questioned this, originally they messaged back that they would honour their policy and cancel the refund request only to then message back within the hour and claim they are "unable" to withdraw the cancellation request from Expedia and therefore have to cancel my policy and that I should expect a refund within 30 (!!!) days. I believe this was done intentionally (even though reading these reviews they're trying to get out of paying for policies to do with the pandemic anyway) to avoid a claim should the information we're working with now (that Greece is on the exclusions list) change. I'm now down 40 quid, have to get a new insurance (with multiple exclusions and at a higher price) and all I got as an answer was "Sorry, our bad". Avoid this unprofessional company at all cost!

BEWARE - AIG wriggle out of payouts.

AIG are using the following caveat hidden deep within their terms and conditions to avoid paying out on pandemic travel insurance claims:

Exclusions: Regulations made by any public authority or government or persons with the authority under legislation or licence to make regulations.

The Pen Travel Insurance policy (underwritten by AIG) is not worth the paper it is written although they will gladly receive your premium.

I bought travel insurance through…

I bought travel insurance through Expedia that AIG sells via AON travel insurance. We had to cancel our trip due to the unforseen Covid-19 pandemic as Ireland is on the travel ban by the United States as it is unsafe and deadly.

We were denied a refund by Expedia whom we will never use again. AON who is backed by AIG also denied us. They said you have a travel credit. Well we didn't ask for a credit and we can't use a credit as we have no idea when it will be safe again. There are spikes all over the world and Europe just banned the United States again as we are spiking again.

AVOID AIG, AON AND EXPEDIA AS THEY ARE ALL SCAM FRAUDULENT COMPANIES THAT DON'T HONOR THEIR SERVICES OR GUARANTEES.

NO REFUND of insurance not enjoyed

I took a travel insurance linked to my flight to Canada. When the airline cancelled the flight, I contacted AIG to recover the fee of my insurance, since I had not cancelled my flight but the cancellation was the result of a global pandemia. Their answer was that they WOULD NOT return a single fee until I could produce the credit from the airline for my flight. EU legally said that all companies were to refund services not used but AIG thinks they are above the legal terms of a whole European Union.

Wouldn’t use them.

Wouldn’t use them.
They claim travelling home from my work country to my registered family home in the U.K. was the beginning of a holiday to Tanzania that was meant to start a few days later with my family. So now will not refund my trip as the travel to the U.K. was part of the holiday so it had already started.
This along with poor customer service throughout.
I will not use this company again, and I will be advising my company to stop using them also.

Terrible service

Terrible service, extremely restrictive conditions basically a waste of money. Booked a trip via Expedia and took the Cancellation Plan provided by AIG. Gave a call to the company to enquire whether I can cancel my trip and get a refund given it is advised not to travel while the corona virus spreads rapidly across Europe. Of course not. That is not even covered under their conditions. Furthermore, whoever was on the phone raised her voice constantly and was absolutely horrible to talk to. Don't waste your money, find a better insurance provider or book flexible offers.

Rude staff and poor service!

Absolutely disgusted by AIG. Tried cancelling a joint policy due to me and my husband splitting up, kept saying no and taking ages to get anywhere with them. Spoke to them on the phone on 20th June, actually used the words i do not want to be with aig. The staff are so rude! This month they have taken money out of my account, when I spoke to them today and asked them to listen to the call they state there is nothing they can do! Funny that, record the calls so you can use them against us but not for us! Avoid this company!! Plenty of others out there!

Realised they have taken money for my ex husband's premium but cancelled the joint policy! Stated they have listened to both calls and can apparently confirm I only wanted joint policy cancelled, why would I still want to pay my ex husband's premium??? Do the words I do not want to be with aig mean nothing or yes please let me keep my policy. Avoid AIG!!!!
