Rented a car at Edinburgh Airport
Rented a car at Edinburgh Airport. Arrived well on time. Waited close to 2 hours. Got the car keys, however wasn't tanked to full. Didn't sweat it but took a quick foto, as was running late by now. Nobody on the parking lot to check with. Drove the car. On return had to wait ages, got subjected to a super detailed check, which seemed like they were looking for anything to charge us with. Got home. Week later got an email with a 35 charge because I'd have had a parking ticket. No details, not link to how to deal with it, just a notice and a bill. No link to email them, als not on their website. 35 Ukp is €50 by the time my bank has paid it! For NOTHING.
I'm shocked, this is by far the worst car rental experiece ever. Let me add that the people working on site were lovely. It's just the management hiding in an office somewhere that really need a reality check. I feel silly for not checking trustpilot before renting. Lesson learnt. Never again.
DON'T use Alamo Heathrow!
We hired a car from Alamo Heathrow and were charged extra for picking up at an airport, even though the website made it clear there were no extra charges for this. They also duped us into taking insurance we didn't need, and failed to tell us about the extra taxes and charges that this incurred. And then, of course, they didn't refund our deposit in full and didn't bother to tell us what the deduction was for. We felt scammed but helpless. We don't live in the UK, we were there for just 3 days and ended up paying nearly £500 for an economy car. Apologies for the long saga but I hope this helps anyone else who is planning on hiring a car from this company. My advice: DON'T!
low standards /incompetence .Racist.

Avoid at all costs!
The Alamo Manchester Airport branche ripped me off for 3300 pounds for a few scratches not caused by me. Intimidating staff threatening to add another 500 because I dropped the keys out of my shaking hands after being told to have to pay a months salary in excess. No compassion at all! I was having a panic attack and the staff kept shouting at me to calm down, that shouting did not help. Show some compassion for your clients please!
No detailed invoices about the damages, just got told minimum fee is 2000 but on my card they charged 3300. This is a scam!!
In contact with them for over a week now without getting any serious answer. Now they even mention the car was "lost" so they can take longer to handle my complaint.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Disappointing experience with Alamo
We had a very bad and disappointing experience with Alamo.
I booked a small car for a week to travel around England. We arrived on time and wanted to pick up our car on 30 May 2025 at Stansted Airport. Unfortunately, we couldn't.
One reason we chose this company that they promised that we could pay by debit card. We tried 3 different cards (issued in two different countries, Austria and Hungary), but none of them worked. We called our banks, but they said there was a problem not on their side, but at the paying terminal. Alamo also was not accepting payment by Revolut (that would be our 4th option).
The staff at Alamo counter was not helpful and couldn't solved this problem, but instead they cancelled our booking.
At the end we had to find another company at the airport and rent a car from them. There we could use our cards without a problem.
It was a very frustrating experience as we spent 90 minutes to sort this problem out, we had to hire a car from another company and on the spot it was much more expensive. We also had to hire a much bigger car than what we planned, so this affected our whole trip, but we had limited options.
All in all we will never try to hire anything from Alamo, as they have limited payment options, ineffective staff and as we had a very frustrating customer experience.
NEVER USE - unscrupulous company
If I could give zero stars I would.
This company is a total sham and is taking advantage of foreign visitors. Knowing you are visiting from overseas you are their prime target. Critical information relating to road charges is not relayed. The car pickup process is disorganised and there always seems to be a holdup with the vehicle. Which I have since discovered is a deliberate tactic to get you to upgrade or give you an unwashed vehicle that does not clearly show prior damage and upon returning you are charged for existing damage you couldn’t see. It’s revenue stream for the company.
They know customer service
Absolutely spot on service from really easy check in at manchester airport to helping to work with me on filing a complaint because the air con didnt work in the car they have me. Someone called me up to check i was ok and asked how they could make it better. superb customer service!
DO NOT USE ALAMO HEATHROW
DO NOT USE ALAMO HEATHROW. TYRE SCAM!!!! BE WARNED!
ONE STAR IS TOO MANY.
I am writing to formally address a concerning issue with the return inspection of a vehicle under Rental Agreement #8J9JCL, collected and returned at your facility. I have been a loyal Alamo customer for several years and have always appreciated your service. However, the experience during this rental has prompted me to seek your assistance for a fair resolution.
Upon collecting the vehicle, I conducted a pre-delivery inspection with a staff member named Omar, who identified himself as new to the role. I immediately noted significant damage to all mag wheels/rims, particularly the front passenger wheel, which was severely scuffed. I expressed concern about its condition, jokingly remarking, “Has my wife been driving this?” Omar acknowledged the wheel damage but assured me that the tyre itself was in good condition, specifically checking for “bubbles or splits” as per Alamo’s damage criteria. He confirmed the tyre was roadworthy, and I accepted the vehicle based on his assurance.
On returning the vehicle on June 16, 2025, at approximately 18:30, the inspection was conducted by another staff member (Staff Member 2). He immediately focused on the front passenger wheel and expressed uncertainty about potential tyre damage. A third staff member (Staff Member 3) was called to inspect the tyre and similarly stated he was unsure if the tyre was damaged. Subsequently, a superior (Staff Member 4) briefly examined the tyre, ignored my attempts to engage, and concluded that the tyre was damaged, resulting in a potential charge of £280. This conclusion was reached without clear evidence or explanation, despite the initial staff members’ uncertainty.
I object to this charge for the following reasons:
1. During the pre-delivery inspection, Omar explicitly confirmed that the tyre was undamaged and roadworthy, despite the wheel’s condition, which I flagged at the outset.
2. The return inspection revealed inconsistent assessments: two staff members were uncertain about tyre damage, while the superior’s brief inspection led to an immediate charge without transparent justification.
3. The lack of clear communication and the dismissive attitude of the superior during the return process do not align with the fair and professional service I have come to expect from Alamo.
Given these circumstances, I believe the potential £280 charge is unjustified. The tyre was deemed roadworthy at collection, and the inconsistent evaluations during the return inspection do not provide sufficient grounds for holding me liable. As a loyal customer, I kindly request:
- A full waiver of the £280 charge.
- A formal review of the inspection process to ensure clarity and consistency in future assessments.
- Confirmation of the resolution in writing.
Unjust Charges and Zero Transparency – A Warning to Foreign Renters
I rented a vehicle from Alamo/Enterprise UK (contract #834MYY, May 2025) as a foreign visitor. The experience ended with unjustified charges, a lack of transparency, and no accountability.
Upon arrival at the branch, I was told that no car was available from the category I had reserved — unless I waited indefinitely. Under pressure, I accepted a forced “upgrade” and was charged €69.96. This was not an option — it was the only way to get a vehicle.
Worse still, I was never informed, either verbally or in writing, about the London Congestion Charge scheme. No one at the branch told me I had to register or pay the £15 daily charge online. Days later, I received automated emails saying two £125 penalties had been paid to Transport for London on my behalf — without any notice or chance to pay the standard fee. Alamo then charged me £70 in administrative fees on top of this.
As a visitor unfamiliar with UK toll systems, I had no way of knowing that I was driving into a charge zone. No warnings, no mention in the contract. Just charges, after the fact.
I have formally disputed the penalties with TfL and filed a complaint with the BVRLA. I am also preparing legal escalation and a chargeback request for the fees involved.
This is not how transparent, customer-oriented companies should operate. Foreign renters beware — Alamo/Enterprise UK will charge you for things you were never told about, and then hide behind small print.
Full documentation, including legal letters and supporting evidence, available upon request.
Alamo attempting to bill me €3800!
Alamo attempting to bill me €3800 euro for a new clutch, eight weeks after I returned the car in full working order.
A total scam.
ALAMO / ENTERPRISE TYRE SCAM!!!!
ALAMO / ENTERPRISE TYRE SCAM!!!!! PLEASE READ REVIEWS ON GOOGLE AND TRUSTPILOT BEFORE YOU RENT A CAR!!!!
Even worse than the rogue rental companies in the Med from the TV programs. Please read below and see that there are DOZENS!!! of customers scammed by Enterprise/Alamo with the tyres. Criminal.
Stansted Airport; picked up car in the dark. Had to check the car by Iphone light. At return a rude employee spotted a 1,5 mm tear in the tyre. I know I hadn't touched or scraped anything. No discussion possible!! Very rude communication with the claims department who ended up taking an extra 200 GBP from my creditcard. Pure theft and no leg to stand on. 200 GBP stolen and fuming. Incredible in today's world with customer protection...
On Google Maps _ Alamo Stansted UK I've added a picture of the specific tyre (old and worn); unfortunately not possible with trustpilot.
Frustratingly inconsistent service from Heathrow branch
I had a poor experience with Alamo’s Heathrow branch. Every time I called, I was given different information—pricing, return options, and vehicle availability all changed depending on who I spoke to. I was told calling directly would offer more flexibility than booking online, but that wasn’t the case.
Promises were made and then reversed: a reservation for my 82-year-old father couldn’t be held as assured, vehicle return options changed, and quoted rates were inconsistent. This kind of service is confusing and unreliable. I expected better - not surprised at their pitiful Trustpilot score...
Alamo Heathrow is excellent
Alamo Heathrow is excellent. Always rent car there, just perfect customer service. The team is amazing, super friendly and helpful. Cars always in good condition, and exactly what has been booked, or team always frying to accommodate better options if available. Pick up and drop off straight forward and super fast.
Want to express special gratitude to whole team who was on the shift 17-5-25 afternoon, especially Sav, Nindy, Ryland 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I forgot quite significant amount of cash in the car... comeback within hour and I just said "hello" and Sav already knew. They put cash in envelop and safety box for me 🥹 I really had 0 hope to have money back, thanks for whole team 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 have no words
If i could give 0 stars i would
If i could give 0 stars i would. Me and my partner booked a rental car through Alamo for our holiday to Norway. Paid over £500 for the car and paid the £400 deposit. 1 hour before our flight we get an email to say Alamo can no longer provide the car we booked and will be refunding us. We called them to say we still needed a car and could they give us a different car. They said as the refund had been processed therefore they could not provide a replacement. We arrived in Norway with no way of getting to our accommodation. Luckily we were able to source a car through other means. The fun then started with the refund. The original cancellation message said we would receive the refund within 48 hours. That came and went. After contacting them again, they said they hadn't processed the refund until 4 days into our holiday so they lied to us. Now the refund was going to take 5-7 working days. This also came and went. In the end the refund for the rental took 26 days to reach our account.
Safe to say i will never be using Alamo again.
Rent a car from Expedia via Alamo car…
Rent a car from Expedia via Alamo car rental , Kaunas airport . We landed 1:05 and shortly we had joined rental queue.
There was one person working and he tried to sell additional insurances to everyone, so we wait 90 min overall and didn’t bough extra insurance - so we been charged 25 euro for out of hour usage . Worth to mention our car we been given was different company not Alamo with 56k on clock - and no car play or Android auto . I think its extra option when you rent . So at the end Alamo is not cheap provider as it looks
Helpful Staff Member: Ajay
Ajay was great and waived/refunded us for the extra day that we were charged for at pick-up - our flight had been delayed so somehow there was an extra day’s charge on it? The staff member’s explanation did not make sense but Ajay helped us with this at the return. 1 star also deducted because of an excess of £2000 - extortionate!!!
Disgraceful, Dishonest Company
I booked an Alamo car for a holiday in Punta Cana. After a long day of travelling we arrived at Punta Cana Airport to be told there were no cars available. I called Alamo customer service and was told the same thing. Now I'm having to fight to recover my deposit as Alamo claim I didn't turn up. Fortunately I have phone records and will be taking legal action.
Broken vehicle, never refunded, rubbish
I wish I had seen these reviews before hiring with Alamo recently in US
Like others used Alamo.co.uk to book car in Miami and prepaid for a Jeep Wrangler £1150 for 2 weeks
Picked up the car and after 4 days and it developed a fault (engine issue)- was told to take back to another depot as I was miles from Miami- they couldn’t replace with the same spec so we ended up squashed into a compact car and promised a refund for the difference- estimated to be £400
That was 3 weeks ago and still chasing up refund through several departments and getting nowhere- having seen similar issues here- BE AWARE of this company- I’ve used them in US since the eighties- but now they are rubbish and won’t be using them again
Passed the issue over the credit card company to see if they can help with refund
Misleading type of rental car BEWAREERE
It was not explained to me that the car is electric. Not mentioned at briefing. How do I charge this car when I had assumed it was petrol/diesel. I am unable to find the display showing how much range remains.
Appalling service from Alamo. How do I formally complain. No guidance from Alamo. Avoid.
