Failed to collect us - missed flights!

I booked a transfer with Alpinbus for 7 adults and 1 child. The outward journey to Flaine from Chambery went as planned - lovely driver and smooth transfer.

However, we were completely let down by Alpinbus for our return transfer from Flaine to Chambery airport on Saturday 10th January. They had initially confirmed they would be collecting us at 13.15 from Flaine for our 18.05 flight from Chambery to Cardiff. At 10.20 they text to say the driver was running late due to road conditions and would collect us 14.30. We were then told that the driver wouldn't make it to us and that they suggested we try to arrange a taxi from Flaine to the airport. I requested the driver's live location at this point and could see that he had barely begun the drive up the mountain - making it clear that the company were being untruthful.

Another couple in our party had driven their own car down the mountain at 8am that morning without issue, and transfer buses and cars were coming and going from our hotel this whole time.

We missed our flights from Chambery as the driver didn't arrive until 15.45. Our drive down the mountain was easy, roads were clear and there was no traffic jam. Further indicating that the company weren't being honest about why they had failed to collect us on time.

We had to book new flights as great expense and had to fly to Bristol instead of Cardiff, as there are no daily flights to Cardiff, so we also had to pay for a taxi home from Bristol airport.

On challenging Alpin bus they are citing Force Majeure as a reason not to offer a refund. However, access to the resort remained open all day and the planned transfer should have gone ahead as arranged. Furthermore, seasonal winter conditions are normal, foreseeable and inherent to operating transfers to ski resorts and should planned for. It is hugely disappointing that they are failing to take responsibility. They have even requested that another member of my party remove her negative review!

Honesty would have been the best policy for Alpinbus. Had we known that morning that they were not going to be able to collect us, we would have been able to arrange another transfer to Chambery ensuring we made our flights. Very disappointing.

Excellent service

Excellent service, quick response to the last-minute transfer request. Clear communication regarding the meeting point. Our driver, Toms, was super helpful and friendly. Comfortable and spacious vehicle. I recommend it to anyone who wants to spend a good ski holiday without worrying about access to and from resorts.

Very poor service on our return…

Very poor service on our return transfer from Alpin bus led us to miss our flight from Chambrey and had to rebook flights at an extra cost from Geneva Airport.
We were originally advised the day before that our transfer would pick us up at 13.20 from Flaine for our flight at 18.00 from Chambrey Airport, only to receive an email on the morning of our departure to say that the driver would be an hr late but we would still make it to the airport in time to check our bags in for our flight.
Unfortunately this this was not to be the case as we were then told 40 minutes before our rearranged pick up time that they were having problems and were trying to order us a taxi which would have meant at least two taxis as we were a group of 8 with a 3 year old child, this was subsequently not arranged and eventually over an hour after this we managed to contact the driver to find his location, he had only just started coming up the mountain.
It was at this point that we realised that we would not make our flight from Chambrey so we made the decision to book flights from Geneva to Bristol for later on that evening.
The driver eventually turned up just after 15.30 over 2 hours after our original given departure time and with absolutely no apology or reason as to why he was late.
As a group is has cost us at least an extra £1600 in flights and then also having to pay for a transfer from Bristol airport as Bristol was not our intended destination but the nearest airport that we could get to Cardiff which was our original destination.
Although our transfer from Chambrey to Flaine went smoothly with a different very helpful driver, after the debacle of our return and complete disregard and no apologies for the fact that we missed our flight we will certainly not be using or recommending them in the future.

As outlined in our terms and conditions, such force majeure events can unfortunately affect scheduled transfers.

While we regret that we could not meet your expectations in this instance, we would be happy to provide you with any necessary documentation to support a travel insurance claim for the additional expenses you incurred.

Once again, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment this situation caused.

We were strung along by them for almost…

We were strung along by them for almost four hours and eventually missed our flight from Chambery, they were due to pick us up at 13.20 for a 1800 flight.

At 10.20 they advised the driver would be around an hour late. At 12.30 they emailed advising that the driver would be collecting us at 14.30 and they confirmed we would have time to check bags and make the flight.

At 13.49pm they called and explained they had problems and were trying to order us a taxi to get us from Flaine to Chambery.

I called the driver who explained that he was never on the way despite the company telling us he was on the way.

At 14.44 we managed to get hold of the driver and get his live location, he had only just started on the mountain road and eventually arrived at 1533. Over two hours after our original collection time.

We managed to rebook flights out of Geneva at a cost of £1600 and had an additional cost of another £300 to get from Bristol to Cardiff.

Had Alpin bus been transparent and honest from the start of conversations at 10.00am we could have made alternate arrangements but they strung us along and left no contingency time.

Haven’t been able to contact them today but will be perusing them for compensation, driver was very embarrassed but obviously a management failure.

Think twice about putting your transfer trust in them!

Friendly and competent drivers

Friendly and competent drivers, good communication with text messages from driver with updates on picking up times, clean and comfortable vans with water available. Would definitely recommend.

Unsafe with children

Firstly, the car seats were down right unsafe for the children. I am not sure if they comply with French law, but a booster seat for a 3 year old, and what constitutes as a “baby seat” was barely a booster, having to use a seatbelt around a lap for a 1 year is not acceptable. If there had been an accident, I would hate to think what may have happened to our children.

Secondly, the van on the journey to Flaine had numerous issues, such as warning sirens going off constantly. The driver on this journey also did not offer to help with our bags on the long walk from the terminal to the car park. He basically marched in front of us without taking a second look. We were heavily loaded with two young children. A little help would have gone a long way.

Finally, the driver on the return journey, which was early in the morning, kept hovering over lanes and then sharply correcting himself. I would question whether he was falling asleep at the wheel or something worse.

A Great Transfer Company

First time using this company but won’t be the last time. Toms was punctual and polite, he was very chatty and friendly making the journey easy and quick. He is a very careful driver and we felt really assured by this
