Truly terrible insurance company

Truly terrible insurance company, the worst I've ever had the misfortune to deal with - I've been in the insurance sector for 40 years now and that's against some pretty stiff competition.
Increased our renewal premium by 124% and refused to explain why.
Constantly send out stock copy and paste emails in reply to emails and waste our time with patronising platitudes instead of answering our questions - all the time wishing us an 'amazing', fantastic', 'wonderful' day while continually ruining our day.
Can't make a simple change of house number amendment to our policy without our having to go through their entire requote process again.
Typically 40 minute waits on the phone.
Terrible call centre staff - ignorant, can't speak English, can't answer the simplest questions.
And so it goes on.
Will never use them again, and will tell everyone I know not to use them either.

Bad experience buy this policy and I canceled it in…

I buy this policy and I canceled it in 1 minute time . When I buy people were so sweet . At the time of cancellation the guy was saying bad things. I was puzzled due to things. That guy said that I wasted his 25 minutes. If Ami is reading this comment than my answer is if u r in market anybody can ask the price. It depends on upon the customer not on the w$043 what she wants. With this type of words u won’t even sell coke. People will come at the end when no dealer left .

Bad customer service/ fraud insurance

My car was insured with ami from last 4 year, someone hit the car while parked damag the front and side, after the repair car start having more issues, I send them email many times, had talk with them, these shit people start blaming me for those fault, instead of solving the issue, why people have to pay so much money every year to these type of insurance company when they just ripping them out and when they need them, these type of companies find thousands of reasons for getting away. I had 2 other vehicles insured with this company before this vehicle, never involved in any accident. I was their customer from last 7-8 years. Stay away from them, find someone better.

Horrible communication

Horrible communication. A particular staff worker had poor english and could not comprehend what I was asking and therefore made a simple process take far too long. She constantly put me on hold and could not figure out how to do what I was asking. Unfortunate waste of time.

Helpful, polite and quick

I spoke to a lady today at 2:10pm. She was very polite, she helped sort my insurance in a timely manner, explained everything really well. Very thankful for her help. Sadly I couldn’t remember her name. Thank you for the great customer service!

Appalling customer service and misleading advice

Appalling customer service and misleading advice. Poor level of English comprehension and knowledge of the policy wording. I have spent hours speaking to 4 different people who could not answer my query and left on hold for long periods. After decades with AMI, I will be looking at other providers where communication and policy wording are clear and consistent.

I was with Ami insurance since I was 24…

I was with Ami insurance since I was 24 I'm now 46. I've only just left these guys for 1 reason and that was because they changed there way of being able to pay them so after such a fantastic run with what I'd call the best insurance company I've been with, even paid out super quick after having my car written off, I went to another insurance company and got the same insurance cheaper. If they hadn't changed their payment system I'd still be with them. Never had any issues at all with customer service either. I still rate them 5 stars. Keep up the great work team so sad you had to change

Had about 30 Policys With AMI, Unfortunately after a year of False accusations, Premiums rising through the roof, & HORRIBLE Customer Service - I decided to remove all policys saving a total of around $15,000 Per year. There ethics are downright disgusting and by the looks of the reviews on this website AMI Insurance will not be around for much longer

I don't trust AMI as their system is not showing accurate information

If I could give negative stars, I would.

My car had been reinsured twice, most likely as the insurance was not showing in my portal.

Upon querying this with AMI, was advised that their system could only recognise exact names - not when a full name and a shortened name have been used. If this is the instance, then they should not ask for my address, nor my date of birth.

I did not accept their explanation and raised a complaint, asking that all my insurances show up in the portal - all I want is for their system to do what it is intended to do - show a customer's insurance. It has taken 2 weeks & 4 phone calls and many emails and the issue is still not rectified.

Being given an explanation is not a resolution to an issue and being given explanations which doesn't make sense has lead to mistrust on my part about this company and their reliability.

I have been with them for over 10 years, not made any claims and I want to move my business due to the lack of service.

Untrained staff working to set up policies

Policy up for renewal- terrible, untrained staff: had to call 3 times for policy renewal- because staff were so poorly trained that they were essentially making things up/ misquoting me/ not advising of fundamental changes to my policy. This was a real concern, a waste of my time AND as an ex-employee, I ended up having to explain simple things to them.

Voided my insurance for their own faults

Issues with setting up policy on their website, had to make a claim, insurance was voided due to issues setting up a policy even though the lady on the phone said it would be fine and she would take care of it for me to now have voided insurance policy when I meant no harm what so ever and was openly honest about everything now I’m stuffed for god knows how long getting future insurance, buying a house. If I had any idea about how crap they were I would have stayed away and none of this rubbish that’s cause a massive issue for the rest of my life. Crazy how hesitant they are on paying people out money but will more than happily take everyone’s money and ruin their life’s cause of there call representatives untruthful communication when I’m only 22 and have never dealt with claims etc before and just wanted some help. Stay away from ami unless you want to deal with useless waste of money crap

Awful company

Awful company, avoid, avoid, avoid! Customer service reps can't speak English well enough to explain simple concepts. Very frustrating and difficult to cancel policy. Put premiums up more than 10% despite no claims. Very much regret giving them money for the past 4 years.

I have been with AMI forty years

I have been with AMI forty years, no claims. Get an email saying they won't accept bank transfers, have to pay by CC, debit card (although they don't have the option for this set up on the site) or Direct Credit. Up until I was told "we are not a bank" a few years ago, I used to pay the same amount weekly. Did so for twenty years. How many companies would insult a loyal customer like that?
I got a quote from FMG, an hour ago. They are nearly the same price wise, BUT offer car hire for thirty days also included. What got me was, AMI tell me I have a loyalty discount of 60%. How can they say that when it is the same as FMG with 60% off???
The customer service person told me I owed two amounts when after checking she said, sorry, you're right, it is only one (I rang to find out how to actually pay). Very swift at getting their hands on your money!
Will cancel all policies in due course. NOT HAPPY
Asked why I was cancelling, I said not happy with AMI. She said, I will put down you are self insuring. I reiterated. She put down self insuring anyway.

I have been with ami for over 20 years…

I have been with ami for over 20 years get a person on ph with an enquiry and she tells me you now have to pay by direct debit or pay $1693 in a few days or we will cancel your policy within 14 days as you can no longer pay monthly I said I'll save you the trouble and I cancelled my 3 policies so AMI you have lost am loyal customer and I would imagine I'm not the first

GET THE CALL CENTRE SORTED OUT!!!! STOP USING CHEAP OFF SHORE LABOUR THAT CANNOT SPEAK ENGLISH. I left One NZ because their call centre was not in NZ, I will leave AMI too if this is not sorted out! It is shocking that money is leaving NZ and people are being paid offshore when there are NZ residents and citizens unemployed.

Worst communication ever

Worst communication ever. You wait on phone forever to speak to someone. If you do get lucky enough to talk to someone, they put you on hold for another hour.
Tried the online chat, which isn't too bad, but they still couldn't sort out issues I had to open an online account after almost two weeks, numerous phone calls. I gave up and moved to another insurer.

Under any and all circumstances do not chose AMI insurance for your vehicle (and possibly anything else).

Their communication and “misunderstandings” they have is horrendous.

I claimed insurance on my vehicle (full coverage insurance) as a farmers cow ran onto a highway and I drove into it. The amount they offered me was far lower than the value of my car. Each time I called I would get someone new to talk to and have to go over the same process, even though they had my case on file!! They never updated the file after any of the conversations I had with them - hence having to repeat myself. They paid me out after 3 weeks of back and forward before I had even agreed to the amount.

They are horrendous at their jobs and they will do what they can to just push you through, regardless of who’s at fault.

I would’ve been better getting 3rd party insurance…

Waste of time, money, effort and hope on this company.

Frustrating policy set up

Over three separate phone calls totalling 3 hours our house insurance policy still isn't set up. Dealing with different people each phone call who are doing their best to provide good service. Wait times before speaking with a representative are exhausting. Forced to use credit card or direct debit for payment, ie no account to account payment option they've had in the past.
