I submitted a claim through ARAG Law in…
I submitted a claim through ARAG Law in early February 2026 for breach of contract by a client (non-payment of 2 invoices, despite reminder emails being sent).
It took 3 months for the claim to be:
- reviewed and accepted within the terms of the policy (this should have been evident at the start)
- to agree that I had a valid claim for breach of contract.
The delay was explained as being due to the workload at ARAG.
To my knowledge, a Letter Before Action was drafted in May 2026, but never sent.
The company that breached the contract has now (mid-May 2026) entered administration - in the three months prior, nothing was sent to them by ARAG Law.
£18,000 not recovered.
I wish I had sought prompt legal advice and action in February, independently of this cover which came as part of my Trafalgar Risk Management personal indemnity insurance.

I totally recommend Emma Ackland at ARAG…
I cannot recommend Emma Ackland at ARAG Law highly enough.
I was involved in a complex dispute with a customer who owed me a substantial amount of money. After exhausting all other options, I contacted ARAG Law to establish whether I even had a viable case. From the moment Emma assessed my situation, I felt completely confident that I was in the best possible hands.
Emma took the time to speak with me directly, clearly explaining the process and outlining my options. Throughout the case, she was exceptionally professional, proactive, and thorough. She always forwarded correspondence to me for review, ensuring I was comfortable with the content of every letter before it was sent, and she kept me fully informed at every stage without me ever having to chase for updates.
What impressed me most was Emma's efficiency and expertise. She successfully resolved the dispute and secured a positive outcome for me without the need to initiate court proceedings, saving both time and unnecessary stress. Considering the complexity of the matter, achieving this result in less than six months was remarkable.
Emma's dedication, professionalism, and communication were outstanding from start to finish. She made what could have been an extremely stressful experience feel manageable and under control at all times.
Thank you, Emma, for your exceptional work. You are a credit to ARAG Law, and I would not hesitate to recommend your services to anyone seeking legal assistance.
credit control
We had a very trying client who refused to pay their bill. We had already started the small claims process but it got messy and too complicated for us to see through. ARAG Law took over the problem for us and quickly assessed the case and saw it through the lengthy process. I was impressed by their professionalism, acting courteously and with good humor guiding us through a very stressful situation. Would recommend their services
So supportive and so capable
Dealing with ARAG law has been excellent. Throughout a stressful and unpleasant legal problem, ARAG staff have consistently been understanding, professional, knowledgeable and above all - human!
Communication and efficiency
I was able to talk to real people on the phone when calling the main number and my allocated legal advisors/team were also mostly available to discuss concerns. Where not available, I received calls back.
Sucesssful repossession of the property.

I was contacted with ARAG Law though my insurance company. My case is taken back our rental property from previous tenants. We have been contacted by phone calls and emails immediately after by ARAG Law. They are very friendly and professional manners as well. Only concern is that their inner circle of communication can be more connected so there will not be repeatedly some of process. But generally speaking they are good and friendly professionals. The outcome is that we have got back our property which is very pleased. We will reconsider to use again.
Horrendous, I'd never use ARAG again
If I could give zero stars I would. Short version: They've given me a year of stress and delivered none of the services I was entitled to, leaving me around £100k out of pocket. They've taken no action to resolve the issues, even though every complaint I've made has been upheld.
I bought a Hiscox insurance policy, and despite no warning in the sales materials or policy, it transpired that the home emergency cover and legal cover were subcontracted to ARAG.
They have found the most spurious reasons to not provide cover under the home emergency policy. My toilet flush broke and water was flooding out onto the floor. ARAG said this was not an emergency they would cover as we own another toilet. A water leak came through the ceiling and shorted out all the lights. They couldn't find a local plumber to help, and said that an electrician would not be required because we have other lights in the same building.
But this policy of trying to avoid providing anything was so much worse when it came to a builder that pulled down a chunk of my roof leaving water raining in to my home and £63k of work that was unsafe according to buildings control. ARAG said the home emergency cover was not applicable, and it was my problem to stop the ingress of rain and make the building safe. The legal advice line told me that I had such a strong case against the builder that I should use the legal cover to claim against them. The legal cover has spent more than a year avoiding doing so. First my case was allocated to ARAG law (yes, that's the same company, but its somehow also an entirely independent company, and it seems they have no idea what each other's rules or remit are, and no communication between them) so it took six weeks and repeated chasing up on my part to establish they don't do construction cases. Then it went to a law firm that said there was sufficient chance of legal success, but that a credit check of the builders meant they wouldn't take the case, even though I proved the builder had insurance against poor workmanship that had been verified by several industry bodies. I complained, they rejected my complaint making numerous factual errors. I corrected the errors and they said they had no obligation to respond to me. I raised a second complaint, they refused to address it. I complained to the financial ombudsman and Hiscox, they said they'd reconsider if I got a legal opinion to challenge their position. They then kept redefining who would be a suitable legal opinion. Eventually I paid a barrister who said that they had a greater chance of recovery from an insured party than one that passed a credit check but had no insurance. The financial ombudsman made ARAG repay the cost of the barrister, but they took weeks to reallocate the case. The next law firm then delayed weeks beyond their own slow timescale, then tried to claim I needed to identify, instruct and fund my own expert witnesses to prove the case, and get a copy of the builder's insurance policy, before they would represent me. Whilst I was supposed to do the work, they were going to claim £195/hour for a trainee paralegal or apprentice solicitor to handle my case. I complained to ARAG this was not a reasonable level of service, it has been more than a month since my last communication from them. I've chased three times and I've not heard back. The law firm and ARAG have admitted failures in service and offered token compensation - but nobody is actually taking up the case or delivering the service that I paid for.
Watch them now try to get Trustpilot to withdraw this, as they have for 9 other negative reviews.

We will give the Law firm 80% rating for their outstanding services. The solicitor, Kelsey Reardon, did an amazing job in acting promptly as we requested to prevent further difficulties of no rent, which we were encountering with the tenants at the time. She kept us duly informed about what was happening at every stage of the process.

I had all the information I needed to prove the agent had stolen from myself and my tenants but apparently it didn't meet the 51% chance of winning. The only other thing I needed was I signed confession from the agent. It also seemed to take forever at every stage. I intend to take the agent to court myself, one of my tenants has lost over £2,000. I am so annoyed that I have told my insurance company that I don't want arag as part of my policy.
