Terrible

Voucher: EU18287319-1

Never again Auto Europe!!! We arrived 30 minutes after the pick up time at 18.30 at the Geneva airport Europcar rental location. The opening hours on the Auto Europe voucher showed 7.30 to 23.30, so you assume no problem at all. The result was devastating! Nobody was at the location, because they changed the opening hours to 18.00. We were not able to reach anybody, and we were not anywhere close to get this car, or any other car. When Auto Europe was reachable the next day they said: “It doesn’t matter that we gave you the wrong opening hours, when you come one minute too late to pick up the car you lose the right to rent it and you don’t get refunded.”

Avoid this company at all costs

Avoid this company. Horrible and slow customer service. I always take out insurance and the 2 times I have some damage and want to make a claim, it literally takes more than 6 months to get anywhere in the process. The first time, after repeated emailing and asking for status updates every month, I finally received money back after 7 months. I'm still waiting for the money back for my second claim.
I filed the claim in the first week of June 2020, only after repeated emailing finally on September 10th I receive confirmation that my claim is granted and the money will be returned within 8-10 weeks. 10 weeks later I ask about the status and I hear nothing at all. I've sent an email almost every week until today and I have received ZERO response. It takes 30 seconds to transfer the money that was already granted. Why am I dealing with this 1-day car rental still 6 months after?! Will never ever use this company again.

Do not get Super Cover! Total scam!

I rented a car through Auto Europe in Portugal and unfortunately was involved in a quite bad accident with the car due to a faulty traffic light. I was informed by the rental company, Budget, that since I had Super Cover insurance with Auto Europe, I would have to pay the damages to Budget and get a refund from Auto Europe. I sent all the documentation I had to Auto Europe at the time (didn't have 2 documents that they asked for, however, in the contract, it says they will request any missing documents from the supplier).

After two months of not hearing anything about my case through email and only finding out through telephone that they were still waiting on 1 document from the supplier, I finally received an email that my case was rejected on the basis of not having contacted the police, which was simply untrue. I have now read many reviews where people have incurred damages on the car they rented through Auto Europe and had Super Cover, thus thinking that everything would be covered, but to then find out from Auto Europe that they need to have a police report (even for a simple scratch on the car!) to be eligible for a refund. In Portugal, a police report will only be issued in the case there is a dispute between two parties, in this case there was not, thus no report was issued.

The problem was that Auto Europe at no moment contacted me to tell me that it was completely necessary to have the police report to continue processing my case. In fact, every time I called, I was only told that a different document (repair bill) was missing from the supplier.

Since my case was rejected, I have tried endlessly to contact them with no luck and even getting completely rude customer service representatives telling me they didn't even have anything on my file.

The customer service department is horrendous except for a few sympathetic souls who will still tell you they are not "from that department" and "can't really help you" and you just need to wait until someone emails you back.

I will never book through Auto Europe again and I do not recommend anyone get their Super Cover which is a total scam - just go for the rental company's insurance!

AVOID Autoeurope - just ordinary money bullies!

Have rented the car through Autoeurope GmbH, for Dubai. Apart from regular insurance have bought also full comprehensive/zero deductible one. Once I approached their subcontractor counter in Dubai (company Payless - btw. these people should be really seriously avoided when booking, they are "low cost" branch of Budget, at least in the UAE) I was asked to pay additional insurance of 10 EUR per day, which was not mentioned anywhere in the booking or voucher. Of course, I rejected and immediately next morning informed Autoeurope of the problem by email. Having correspondence back and forth for days now, today I receive an answer from their lausy customer service, basically saying they cannot refund anything as "in case of 48 hours before pick up cancellation there is no refund". So, 270 EUR in vain.
CAVEAT EMPTOR - AVOID AUTOEUROPE, it is a shame in the middle of EU such company exist and is allowed to do business. Just ordinary thieves.

Very bad customer services

Very bad customer services. We booked a car in Denmark but could not get it because of a problem with the adress of the one who ordered it. I could understand that we couldn't get the car because of that but we should at least be paid back the money or given back a coupon as there were no services provided by auto europe. There was not even a car there for us when we went to the car rental. We are students so we can't afford to be losing money like that. Very disappointed with that experience.

Dear Mr. Venturelli,

thank you for your review. We are very sorry to hear about your bad experience. Sadly, Auto Europe cannot be held responsible if the client does not meet the requirements of the local supplier as stated in our terms and conditions. Rental car suppliers require a credit card in order to pick up the car. If the addresses on the reservation and the credit card do not match up, it's in the hands of the supplier to give the car or refuse to give it. Auto Europe is not able to intervene in this case.

Not trustworthy and miserable customer…

Not trustworthy and miserable customer service part 2
On 15th April I wrote a review in regards to Auto Europe. I received an answer on 21st April stating I should get in touch with Auto Europe to clarify the matter. I assume that it was an automatic response (to look good as if they actually care about customers), cause I immediately got in touch with Auto Europe and I’m waiting since then of a sign back from them (so more than 6 weeks now). In December 2019 I already told Auto Europe about my complaint and they have all the necessary documents (e-mail exchanges, voucher number, etc.) until Auto Europe suddenly determined the contact with me – without any credible reasons. Again, this doesn’t look like first class service (as they always promise) or as a sign that Auto Europe would like to settle my complaint. As said before – not trustworthy and almost embarrassing how this company deals with customers. I hope other customers can learn from my experience.

Greedy and opportunistic

Auto Europe is a greedy and opportunistic organization. I paid for 28 day rental, and used only 5 because of the coronavirus lockdown. I didn't ask a refund, only asked for the possiblity to use the unused days (at least some of it) at a later date. They categorically refused and essentially pocketed all the money for unused days (I spoke with the local car rental company and they didn'[t see any of that money). Avoid!🤬

cheating and not aswering mails

We rented a care for a very good price. Giving it back after a couple of day it was not used for more tha 100km. no eating, drinkin or smoking in the car. there was nobody to take over the car at the airport so we deposit the key in the place we were asked to. 2h later beeing almost in the plane, we got a message that we have to pay for extra cleaning for the car, They even send us a photo. Trying to phone or writing mails.... we did not even get an answwer... It is the question if you want to go to court for € 150,- or you just never rent a care with a company like this again.

I just had a most unpleasant experience…

I just had a most unpleasant experience talking to a supposed Customer Service representative in Germany.
She refused to put me through to a Supervisor, claiming that no more could be said about my query and that was that.
After a very attractive quote for a 2 day rental of a car at Stuttgart Airport, I was disappointed to find, on picking up the car, that since I only held 2 debit cards, and not an actual credit card, the only way to go ahead with the booking was for them to charge me 2 days of full insurance, which added nearly 70 Euros to the super rate of 35.
My complaint to Auto Europe was simple: since this condition was specified in the Voucher they send you when booking, which of course I did not bother to review fully, I WOULD NOT HAVE BOOKED IN THE FIRST PLACE HAD I KNOWN THIS. In other words, they should make it extremely clear and simple that this is a factor that could TREBLE the cost of your booking!
This is the second, and last time I use this service. Another, smaller charge was also added on my first booking, but it was simply not worth bothering with. This time it was, and they did not offer any reasonable customer support of any kind. No more.

Dear Daniel,
Thank you for your comment. We are very sorry, that you was unsatisfied with the car rental service. Most of the car rental companies require a credit card from the main driver for the deposit and this is the usual procedure for pick up. This important information you can find in our terms & conditions during the booking process and also on the voucher. That is a requirement from the rent a car companies and Auto Europe has any influence on this fact.

AutoEurope wouldn't refund me for a refused car.

AutoEurope wouldn't refund me anything when the car was denied to me!
I made a booking for the Valentine's day weekend, and the rental company denied my car because my license was relatively new; mistake on my part. However, the rental company agreed to pay the full refund for my booking, if only Auto Europe contacted them. But Auto Europe refuses to contact them and sites that I violated the terms of my voucher that my license should be old enough.
According to the conditions of the voucher the license must be 3 years old (with exceptions allowed). I hold two licenses and one of them is more than 10 years old. It was therefore the discretion of the rental company to deny me the booking. I haven't technically violated the terms.
Now as I see it, the rental company would pay the money back to Auto Europe and they are going to simply keep the money and deny to pay me back. Of course they can reduce an administrative fee, but keeping the entire money with them is completely unacceptable to me. It is also unfair.
Auto Europe also doesn't seem to leave me with an option. I now have to cry out loud on the internet (on other platforms as well, soon).
Prapanch Nair.

Even before using the car which I…

Even before using the car which I booked, I'm already so disappointed.

I booked a car on 11th Jan for family trip and got a confirmation letter with Voucher. Last week I wanted to change my reservation, but their system was broken. So no one could check my reservation situation at all. When I had to call Euro Car directly, surprisingly my reservation was cancelled on 13th Jan. Of course I didn't. Even I didn't have any confirmation letter about cancellation.

We tried everything until so far, phone call, e-mail, customer service center, still I haven't received any feedback from them and don't know about my reservation status whether I can rent a car or not. Although I can rent a car, we can't drive the car. Because with their system issue, I couldn't change my reservation. Please someone clarify this situation and refund all my payment.

Extremely poor customer service

I hired a car in Italy through Autoeurope in June/July and bought their selfinsurance cover - Supercover. First part of the process (getting the right in time etc) went fine, however after returning the car it has went wrong with the service from Autoeurope. First there was a damage to the car (not Autoeurope's failure of course) however when trying to get the amount paid to AVIS for the damage from Autoeurope under the insurance bought it is now 11 weeks after Autoeurope promised to settle within maximum 8 weeks. And they still try to postpone and make excuses. Secondly I was incorrectly charged more than 110 EUR more by AVIS then agreed with Autoeurope and now 11 weeks after I have still not been able to get a sensible response from Autoeurope and recovery of the overcharging. Unfortunately I can only warn against using Autoeurope as car hire broker

I did the reservation of my car for a family vacation with Auto Europe. Auto Europe sent me a Voucher / a contract, in which all the conditions of this rental were set. Thus Auto Europe is my contact company, my addressee in this matter.

Maggiore is one partner company of Auto Europe for Italy, and they should have provided me the reserved car (I already had paid the car rental costs at Auto Europe). But when I wanted to pick up the reserved car in Milano, I was told by he staff of Maggiore that that car was not available. That is, in my point of view, a breach of contract. By not providing me the car that I had reserved, Maggiore broke my existing reservation! The staff in Maggiore then told me that he could give me a similar car. In any case, standard practice in such a situation is that the company will offer a similar car for the same price to the client. Because it is only the company's fault, if the pledged car is not available. It is not the client's fault.

Maggiore then forced me to sign a new document (contratto) and to take the other car. The staff of Maggiore lied to me by telling me that I would get a "similar" car. He did not tell me that that car would come at a higher price. So when I thought about the standard practice in such a situation and the staff told me about a "similar car", I automatically assumed that that replacement car would come at the same price as the pledged car. The document that I signed was in Italian language. I don't understand Italian, and the staff of Maggiore refused to explain to me the content of the document. He only marked the places in the document where I had to sign. I signed everything, because of the reasons explained above ("standard practice"), and because other people were already waiting there and complaining that my transaction took too much time.

When I returned the car 9 days later, I was shocked to learn that the car company asked me to pay additional car rental costs! It turned out that they had not given a "similar" car to me, but a slightly "better" car, and they wanted additional money from me. Even though I protested against this, they later withdrew the additional costs from my credit card.

I then wrote 4 e-Mails to Auto Europe, explaining the matter to them, and asking them to refund me the amount that was deducted from my credit card for the use of the replacement car.

But Auto Europe just ignored my e-mails, they did not reply to me anymore!

After this bad experience, I will never book a car through Auto Europe anymore ...

They look for any reason to keep your money

A lot of the good reviews for this company on here seem like suspicious and paid spam.

I had a reservation with them and was refused a car because I didn't have a credit card. Even though I had the card I used to pay for the reservation online, a card that worked before with other car rental companies and with AutoEurope themselves. Due to the more stringent policies of the car rental provider, Sixt, I was refused a car and then refused a refund with AutoEurope. Their customer service ignored me and I'm now pursuing a dispute and claim with my bank.

They believe it is fair for them to keep the entire 14-day rental amount because I had no credit card. Even though I am a returning customer and previously used my debit card without any issues.

They do not operate with a good will and intention towards their customers and are instead looking for any way to keep your money!

Avoid!

Dear customer,

thank you for your feedback.

In our Terms and Conditions we state that a credit card is required at the time of the pick up in order to receive the car because the car rental companies need a credit card to block the amount of the deposit: "The primary driver must present at least one valid credit card (not a debit card), issued in their name, upon pick up. The credit card is required as a security deposit and the amount will be held by the rental car company."

If the client fails to present a valid credit card, the car rental company doesn't give out the car since they can't block the necessary deposit. Sometimes they offer the client to pay for an extra insurance in order to avoid the security deposit but that is up to the car rental company.
In this case Auto Europe does not refund as stated in our T&Cs: " Auto Europe does not refund should the client present an unacceptable credit card at
the counter or a credit card with not enough credit for the deposit ."

Kind regards

Emma

Helpless staff / No goodwill / Useless helpline

Credit Card was not accepted for payment of the deposit - so far, so good.
In that case I would expect any flexibility / goodwill / offering of alternatives --> especially by a service provider. None of that was the case.

Even though reimbursement of the money was promised - nothing, besides useless calls with the helpline, was reimbursed.

In summary:
1) Helpless staff at the pickup desk
2) No goodwill by the car company
3) Useless helpline

Consequence:
If there's any deviation from standard: the mess is pre-arranged. Never again.
